Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

T

he Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has reopen after its annual maintenance shut-down. The first Tram up is scheduled at 8 a.m., the last Tram up is at 8 p.m. and the last Tram down at 9:45 p.m. Trams leave at least every 30 minutes on the hour and half-hour. Completed projects this year include replacement of bearings on numerous Tram systems, shortening of a haul rope and comprehensive mechanical testing, along with annual cleaning and refurbishment at both tram stations.

“We are now ready and excited to begin our 53rd season,” says Tramway Vice President of Sales and Marketing Nancy Nichols. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway has also announced its annual Snow Guessing Contest. The contest continues until the first measurable inch of snow falls at the Tram’s Mountain Station, elevation 8,516. The first 10 entries received with the correct date of snowfall will win four Tram admissions plus a special Tram gift memento. In the event there are more than 10 cor-

rect entries, the earliest postmarks will prevail. To submit an entry, simply write down your best-guess date on a postcard and mail it to: Snow Guessing Contest, 1 Tram Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Please remember that only postcards will be accepted (no emailed entries). Participants may enter as many times as they would like, but only one date per postcard. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the world’s largest rotating tram car. Opened in 1963, the Tram’s 80-passenger cars travel along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon from the Valley Station (elevation 2,643 ft.) to the Mountain Station (elevation 8,516 ft.) in approximately 10 minutes.
