23rd Annual Jazz in the Pines Festival
I
dyllwild Arts Foundation has announced plans for its celebrated 23rd Annual “Jazz in the Pines” Festival, which takes place amid the towering native pine forest on the Idyllwild Arts Campus. Offering something for every Jazz, Blues, and R & B lover, this year’s event will feature continuous music on three stages performed brilliantly by longtime favorites, as well as new faces. Marshall Hawkins, a legendary standup bass jazz musician, founded the Idyllwild Arts Academy Jazz Program and the nationally-acclaimed “Jazz in the Pines” annual festival 23 years ago, and it has grown exponentially ever since.
To kick off this special jazz weekend there will be a Patrons Dinner and Dance in the French Quarter themed “Magic in the Forest,” on Friday, August 19 at 6 p.m. Entering via a red carpet where the enchanted forest will await them, guests will listen and dance to the music of well-known jazz performer Deanna Bogart, enjoy a Bourbon Bar, taste an exquisite dinner presented by Idyllwild Arts Lead Chef, Chris Stroud, and take part in a silent auction. Entertainment will also include a “live” painting, a magician, and a photo booth. This year’s Festival expects to be a sell out once again, featuring over
two dozen bands. Guests will experience solo musicians, jazz ensembles, big bands, jazz orchestras, and brass bands performing in three different venues, with every single note performed brilliantly by longtime favorites, as well as new faces. One of the notable features of this jazz festival will be the appearance of several Idyllwild Arts alums who are prominent musicians in their own right, with some being former Hawkins students! “We are very excited about the performer line-up and talent we will be presenting at our 23rd Annual “Jazz in the Pines” Festival,” stated President of Idyllwild Arts Founda-
tion, Pamela Jordan. “As always, we are most appreciative of all the support and underwriting we have received thus far for this important Jazz weekend at Idyllwild,” Jordan continued.
