You answer the phone, and it’s an unknown caller. This person claims to be holding your son or daughter for ransom. In order for your child to be released unharmed, you need to wire money to the kidnapper.

Don’t be scared into paying up.

These scams vary, and con artists use a range of tricks to construct a convincing story. Scammers typically snoop on social media to get details about their victims’

lives. They often work in teams; they may have someone pretend to be a friend of the “abductee,” or even the son or daughter themselves. Scammers also try to keep victims on the phone until the money is wired. This prevents them from contacting the “abducted” family member.

WARNING SIGNS • Be wary of calls from unknown area codes: The FBI reports that these scams typically come from an outside area code, sometimes from Puerto Rico with area codes (787), (939) and (856).

• The caller insists you stay on the phone. By demanding that you stay on the line, you can’t contact the “victim” by another means.

• You are pressured to act immediately. Scammers want you to send money before you’ve had time to assess the situation.

• The “victim” doesn’t quite sound like him or herself: Ask to speak to the victim and listen carefully. It could be someone else impersonating your family member.

• Kidnappers want you to wire money or use pre-paid debit card.

Scammers prefer these untraceable ways of sending money.

So take some time to hit the links or watch your favorite players on TV. Here are a few interesting facts about the game of golf.

• Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Barack Obama are just a few of the presidents associated with golf. But Woodrow Wilson is often overlooked. An avid golfer, he was so dedicated to the game that he even played in the snow – using black golf balls!

Many Japanese golfers carry “holein-one” insurance. In Japan if you hit a hole-in-one it is customary to share your good luck by throwing a party complete with gifts for all your friends.

• Yuichiro Miura became the oldest person to summit Mount Everest at age 70 (as well as being the first to ski the mountain). When his record was broken, he recaptured it in 2008 at the age of 75. In 2013 Miura again beat the record by summiting Everest at the age of 80!

• The Canary Islands were named after the Latin word for dog (Canariae Insulae, “Island of Dogs”). It is the canary birds who are named after the island, not the other way around.

Finally, follow with a Marimo moss ball and tap or distilled water then screw on the lid. Repeat for each aquarium you want to make.

To care for the moss balls simply empty out water and replace with fresh water every 1-2 weeks, keep out of direct sunlight.

What you need: • 4 1/4” glass light bulb shaped bottle with screw on cap • Small aquarium or floral rocks and/or pebbles • Small glass floral beads, jewelry beads or small resin cabochons • Small Japanese Marimo moss ball Directions: Begin by adding rocks or beads to the glass light bulb shaped bottle.

You can use a funnel for smaller beads or rocks to help make this easier. Next add your stars or cabochons to suit.
