“In addition to presenting the restoration of Sudden Fear (1952), we’ll be showing a newly restored print of The Accused (1949) from the Library of Congress,” said pro-

ducer Alan K. Rode who returns for his ninth year at the festival helm.

da) and Marilyn Monroe (Niagara), but according to Rode, there is a lot more: “We’ve really mixed in some of the classics with lesser known, but worthy films including Outside the Wall (1950), Fly-By-Night (1942) and The Hunted (1948).”

“I am thrilled that Claude will be joining us at this year’s festival to discuss his role in a classic film and his storied career,” enthused festival producer and host Alan K. Rode. Jarmon also starred in The Yearling (1946) and Rio Grande (1950), among others.

‘Cabaret’ at Palm Canyon Theatre songs unfold throughout the production, including Willkommen, Money, Mein Herr, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, and Cabaret.

Mike Hadley, as the Emcee with some of the Kit Kat Klub girls The Palm Canyon Theatre is transforming into the Kit Kat Klub for seven nights of infamous Cabaret. The 1966 musical is based on a book by Christopher Isherwood and his original short novel Goodbye to Berlin, published in 1939.

Music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb. The famed Broadway show has evolved throughout the years, and even made it to the silver screen in 1972 as an Oscaraward winning film by the same name.

Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, the story magnifies the nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub. A 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles, played by Allegra Angelo, falls in love with a visiting American writer Cliff Bradshaw, played by Stephen Milligan.

Mike Hadley plays the Kit Kat Klub’s Emcee, overseeing all the action, as the club serves as a metaphor for the politics unfolding in Germany.

Francesca Amari to Perform at Joslyn Center Francesca Amari will perform “It’s Hip To Be Square: Guilty Pleasure Songs” on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in Palm Desert at the Arthur Newman Theater in The Joslyn Center.

Ms. Amari has been performing since 2007 and is one of the most popular singers in the desert and may be seen weekly at a number of local venues. Originally from Michigan, Ms. Amari moved to Palm Springs in 2010 and immediately took off and is in great demand for her singing and acting.

A few months ago she got great review starring in “Anything Goes”, presented by the Palm Canyon Theatre, in the role of Reno Sweeny. “It’s Hip To Be Square” is full of songs that have flooding the air-

Spring greens make a cook’s heart race—asparagus, sugar snaps, sweet peas, arugula, spinach, Swiss chard, watercress, artichokes, fava beans, bok choy, garlic scapes, green onion, leeks and more. After the hearty greens and root vegetables of winter, spring’s sweet and tender offerings are a gift. So, stash the stockpot and grab a sauté pan. As this simple but splendid recipe shows, spring greens barely need cooking at all.

Baked Halibut with Spinach and Leeks A creamy tangle of young spinach and sweet leeks makes a luscious bed for baked fish.

Ingredient • 2 tablespoons, plus 1 teaspoon, unsalted butter, divided • 10 ounces baby spinach • 2 medium leeks (white and light-green parts only), cut into halves lengthwise, rinsed and thinly sliced (about 1 cup) • 2 large garlic cloves, minced • 1/4 cup dry white wine • 1/3 cup heavy cream • 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt, divided

• 1 pinch nutmeg • 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese • 4 (5- to 6-ounce) skinless halibut (or cod) fillets • 2 teaspoons olive oil

Directions 1. Preheat oven to 400F. 2. Heat a large skillet over mediumhigh heat and add 1 teaspoon butter. Add spinach in two batches, and cook, tossing, until just wilted, about 2 minutes per batch. Transfer to a colander, let cool, then squeeze to release excess liquid.

3. Pour off any liquid in skillet.

Reduce heat to medium. Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter and leeks. Cook until softened but not browned, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook, stirring, 1 minute more. Add wine, increase heat to medium high, and cook until wine is almost evaporated, about 2 minutes. Add cream and simmer until just slightly thickened, about 2 minutes. Add 1/4 teaspoon salt, pepper and nutmeg. Stir in Parmesan, and gently fold in spinach. Keep warm.

500 Motorcyclists begin 2,600 Mile Journey to Washington, D.C. from Spotlight 29 Casino There are three routes that the 500600 riders can choose including stops at VA Medical Centers, Veterans’ Memorials, VFV Posts, community centers and schools along the way, offering education on accountability during wartime, emphasizing that no soldier should be left behind.

Spotlight 29 Casino will host approximately 500 motorcycle riders from the 28th annual Run For The Wall, which recognizes the sacrifices and contributions made by all veterans who have served our nation.

Spotlight 29 Casino has been a longtime supporter of the annual Run for the Wall. The casino is the first stop on the route, which concludes on May 27 at the nation’s capital. Riders will gather for a spe-

cial kick-off ceremony with prayers and speeches at Spotlight 29 Casino before they embark on their 2,600-mile ride across the country.

The mission of Run For the Wall is to promote healing among all veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all prisoners of war and those missing in action, to honor the memory of those killed in action in all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world.

“We are honored to host the first stop on the Run For The Wall route and this is just a small way for us to say thank you to those who have served our country,” said Tom Sedlock, Gen-

eral Manager. “To see all of the bikes decked out in red, white and blue, proudly displaying American flags, is a sight to see and we invite everyone to experience this special day.”

The ride is open to anyone, although 75% of the participants in Run For the Wall are active or retired military. Others are welcome and encouraged to ride for those who cannot. Run For The Wall is a nonprofit organization. For more information, visit www.rftw.org.
