Saving water as you spruce up for spring The Big Bear Valley relies solely on aquifers, or groundwater wells, for drinking water. Unlike many cities in the Southwest, none of Big Bear’s water is imported. The Valley does not rely on water from northern California or the Colorado River. City of Big Bear Lake water use regulations • No hose washing of sidewalks, driveways, patios or other paved areas except when needed to protect public health and safety. Permits are available upon request. • Landscape watering shall be done before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. April 1-Nov. 1. • Follow the alternate day watering schedule—addresses ending in odd number can water on odd calendar dates. Addresses ending in even numbers may water on even numbered calendar dates. • Not outdoor watering during, or within 48 hours folowing measurable precipitation. • No outdoor watering on major summer holiday weekends including July 4 holiday weekend. • All irrigation systems must be shut off and winterized Nov. 1-April 1. • Water should be used reasonably and productively at all times.

• All water leaks from any water line, faucet, toilet, etc., must be repaired once detected. • Water must be kept from running off onto adjacent properties, public or private roadways, and streets. • Automatic shut-off nozzles must be used on handheld hoses. • Washing vehicles must be done with a bucket and a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle. • There shall be no use of water from fire hydrants, except for fire protection and approved construction purposes. • Turf (grass) installations shall be limited to 1,000 square feet. If you already have turf, you may install additional turf that totals 1,000 square feet including existing and new turf. • Temporary watering exemptions are available with a water permit.
