Report 2014

2014 Report As our Report enters its eighth year, the issues it tackles reveal how companies are increasingly interested in an approach that involves creating a new vision. For our work is not limited to just product design, for it goes well beyond. This is a clear indication of how our approach is right but it also illustrates how, in the service of our clients, we deal with new commodity sectors, expanding and enriching the experience.

Enjoy the read! Susanna Brugnoli and Marcello Cutino

Time and Vision Every project needs to consider both time and vision. This approach is not limited simply to the design of a product, for it involves everything that revolves around the idea that led to it, from communication to relations with the outside world, and from sales organisation through to the end users. As a result, in the development of a corporate vision, the time can be divided into two parts: 1) the time required from the birth of project through to its presentation 2) the time of the product’s life-cycle from the moment it is put onto the market. Objective Time and Subjective Time In the first case – that of development – time has an objective value (since the development processes are controlled by the company), whereas, in the second, the vision brings constant feedback from the most diverse sources, thus leading to the next steps in the development, based on the responses received. This means that the time involved in the life-cycle of the product is established by the reactions received from the sales network and/or end users, thus becoming both relative and subjective. The Development Time of a Vision Time is an essential element in the creation of a vision, for it creates and forms a link between the various activities, bringing about the relationships between them. For example, if I pronounce a phrase in a reasonable time then the meaning will be clear, whereas if I take too long to say the same words, they will end up being incomprehensible. The experience we have built up over the years in creating visionary projects has meant that we have become extremely sensitive and careful about development times as they relate to the outside world, in order to respond to input and make the vision a success. One can come up with the most amazing projects, but they will have no future if they come at the wrong time…

“Holding hands” – a 30-year Adventure Dating back over 30 years, “Holding hands” tells of our experience in the design of handles, which began when we were first starting out. Handles often crop up in the field of industrial design. Doors have always been elements that divide and open spaces, and every door always has a handle to open and close it. The story of the handles designed by BCF is primarily linked to the Frascio company, headed by a historic family in the Val Sabbia, where Italy’s leading handle-making companies are located. The models we have designed tell the history of the evolution of form in the development of interior design and architecture over the years. It is incredible how a simple object like a handle can be interpreted in so many different ways, and the recent introduction of the OLA handle for the RDS company clearly shows how this object, which is so closely linked to people and their hands, inevitably reflects the latest trends and styles.

2014 PROJECTS

The projects developed in 2014 saw the constant evolution of visions for the Berndes, Moneta and Marangoni brands, with the presentation of new products and, especially, of new technologies. We launched vision projects in the natural-products sector with Piz Frigo, a company that processes maize, and with Specchiasol, which is famous for its production of plant derivatives and natural cosmetics. Lastly, two design operations: the first for Intercomp, an IT company with which we have been working for over 30 years. The second for RDS, a company that manufactures door handles.

CLIENT

Berndes GmbH B.double Consultancy and design operations - product design - integrated communication design: videos, product brochures, packs, minisite

Vision for Berndes

B.double: the new flagship of Berndes B.double is the new flagship of Berndes in product development. Its design expresses the search for functionality, tracing out a new direction in the evolution of the brand. B.double Berndes is a multifunction cooking set with two casseroles of different heights which can be used separately or together for different kinds of cooking. An authentically innovative, versatile implement that responds to the latest trends in cooking. With its exquisite interlocking and sophisticated details, the meticulous design illustrates the potential offered by the latest aluminium die-casting technology that is used to make it. The b.double vision is expressed in the presentation video and continues through to the packaging and dedicated websites, as well as in the product brochure. A complete project that conveys the enormous potential of this multifunctional object.

B.double and its Technology The resolutely sculpted forms give the product its professional air, communicating a sort of hermetic continuity almost as though it were a small, self-contained oven.

The video created for the presentation plays on the concept of dualism: the double chef, double potential, double results.

CLIENT

Moneta Induction A Consultancy and design operations - integrated communication project: video, brochure, pack, minisite, stand

The Vision for Moneta

Induction A: a higher class of induction The vision for Induction A is interesting for it shows how even an apparently simple implement like a pan can achieve high levels of technology. Induction A is a high-efficiency patented base designed for induction cooking. A method of cooking that is increasingly becoming the future in kitchen equipment. The vision studied by BCF highlights the technical qualities of this new induction base. Clear, simple examples of its features have been illustrated, and this approach has made its distinctive advantages over standard products immediately apparent.

Clear, Effective Performance Tests The tests were carried out comparing the traditional technology with the new, and the communication is based on simple, intuitive and dynamic graphics that show the difference in performance between the two technologies.

The Business Case, Video and Exhibition Spaces The vision for Induction A was developed within the business-case project for agents and customers: an important instrument for understanding this important technology and making it known. The presentation videos, shown on tilted monitors on the floor, emphasised the innovative nature of Induction A.

The luminous green ring has become the distinctive element around which the communication of the technical specifications and performance are based, highlighting the leadership of Ringtread.

The Green Ring The luminous green ring is the distinctive feature of the display unit, recalling the colour of the Ringtread brand. The special design gives the impression that the ring is floating, creating an image of technology and elegance that one would not expect to find in this type of product.

Specchiasol Snell Balance Consultancy and design operations - integrated communication project: display unit, packaging, brochure, vehicle customisation

The Vision for Specchiasol The open-arms sign of perfect form

Specchiasol, the renowned phytosanitary and natural cosmetics company, has launched a new line of weight-control supplements. BCF’s study for the product image is based on the idea of lightness, which comes out in the stylised figure. This is the leitmotif of the communication and style of the various instruments designed to assist in sales activities – an instantly recognisable sign that has ensured the success of the product.

Balance and Elegance The design of the display unit, which effectively contains the taglines and product description, is inspired by balance and elegance. The same style also appears on the motorcaravan fitted out for the roadshow in Italy’s major cities to present and demonstrate the product.

Verattiva, Dipping into the Summer Verattiva is a series of sun-protection products. For the packaging, BCF has taken inspiration from the colours and joys of summer, with the Aloe plant in the background alluding to its active ingredient.

The handle with the flexuous form After about ten years, BCF has once again designed a handle with a sinuous shape for RDS, calling it OLA, a name that suggests the waves on the sea.

The Sign and the Wave Ola is dynamic in its lines and soft in its grip. Characterised by the wave shape at the end of the grip, it is the perfect accessory for both classic and contemporary interior designs.

From these points of view, Tuttolo is the start of a new story, and of one with a very promising future.

Children’s Toys as a Symbol of an Innocent View of the World The lead image of the Tuttolo initiative is a photo of two children playing with a corn cob – a symbolic picture that illustrates the absolute innocuousness and naturalness of the products.

The Vision for Gommus The sole with two hemispheres

OEO is a study for a sole for loafers. In some products, the rubber sole is placed between the vamp and the rand, emerging only where contact is made with the ground. The characteristic feature of OEO is the presence of two hemispheres, with a hollow part where the foot applies most weight. The design has been studied to make best use of the flexibility of the rubber and to make the support perfectly comfortable. The original shape of the OEO sole is the distinctive element of a constantly evolving technology, giving new life to a classic product.

CLIENT

ACO CibusTec stand Consultancy and design operations - Product strategy and general format - Display project - Graphic design of the spaces - Dedicated display-unit project - Production assistance

The Vision for ACO

Showing what is concealed ACO, a leader in the manufacture of wastewater drainage products, came to CibusTec with a range of products designed to meet the needs of the food and catering industry. BCF created a display format that involved presenting these products in such a way as to make their structure, functions and technical specifications immediately clear.

http://goo.gl/EAQiAo

Display Stands to Illustrate the Quality and Potential of the Product Water drainage systems are usually out of sight, since they are in the floors and walls of buildings. The project thus involved designing a series of display units that would reveal all the special features of ACO products even in the least visible places. This formula makes the displays essential for communicating all the characteristics of the product in a complete and comprehensive manner.
