Educating Patients and Doctors about Dry Eye

By MyDryEye.ca

With over 2 million impressions in the last year, MyDryEye.ca has become one of the most visited websites for patients with dry eye. There are many exclusive features on MyDryEye.ca that are beneficial for the dry eye sufferer. One of the main goals of MyDryEye.ca is to directly connect patients with a network clinic. The updated dry eye doctor locator allows patients to search clinics by location or by specific dry eye treatments. The locator is extremely user friendly and links each clinic's website and all the necessary information to contact the clinic about dry eye treatments. Additionally, the new map feature repopulates and updates dry eye clinics whenever the user moves towards a new location.

MyDryEye.ca also provides a trusted source of dry eye information for patient learning. Each month, the website publishes 2 new blogs which cover various dry eye topics that are easy to understand for the general public. As more clinics move towards in-office treatments, the most recent blog posts focus procedures such as Intense Pulsed Light, Radiofrequency and Thermal Pulsation Therapy. In addition to blog posts, MyDryEye. ca created a dry eye glossary page that outlines procedure-based treatments and dry eye medications in a few sentences.

For the visual learner, MyDryEye.ca created social media channels dubbed, “MyDryEye Space” which summarizes affiliated blog posts with infographics. MyDryEye Space has a large following on both Instagram and Facebook, and you can follow them @mydryeyespace. Additionally, MyDryEye Space runs a patient-facing Facebook group that allows patients to share their dry eye experience with other sufferers. This Facebook group is carefully moderated by the MyDryEye team to either guide the patient to a network clinic or to accurately answer a dry question. MyDryEye.ca has developed into a go-to website for dry eye sufferers, but it is also attracting optometrists that want to practice in this sub-specialty.

With the growing interest in dry eye, The MyDryEye team produced The Canadian Dry Eye Summit (CDES) which is the largest DED focused education meeting in Canada. The fully accredited meeting primarily focuses on the science of dry eye diagnosis, treatment in addition to practice management concepts. Each year, CDES brings together a panel of experts from all across North America and vendors to showcase their technology. There are endless lectures and live demonstrations that provide each optometrist with the opportunity to set up a dry eye practice within their clinic.

A new addition last year was the Dry Eye Innovation Summit (DEIS) and this exciting event showcased the latest in dry eye technology and new product pipelines in the dry eye space. If you missed the CDES or DEIS, there are live recordings for both events (links are provided below).

If optometrists want to dive into dry eye content even further, they can join the Learn.MyDryEye. ca and utilize the learning platform to learn at their own pace. The content on the learning platform contains COPE approved lectures, practice management content and dry eye training videos for staff and doctors. All members on the learning platform obtain placement on the dry eye locator and can utilize MyDryEye.ca social media content for their website. If you want to specialize in dry eye, take advantage of all of the benefits that MyDryEye has to offer to grow your practice.
