June 2020
Club Manager Message Dear Ocean Edge Club Members, Per the Governor’s reopening plan for the State of Massachusetts we have begun Phase II of the reopening plan for the State. With that, I would like to update you on the Club operations. Please note that our goal and intent, is to open each facility safely, following strict protocols and open at a pace that makes operational sense. Adherence to all State and Local guidelines is of utmost importance and under no circumstances can we allow anyone to do otherwise. Thank you for your patience through the time of closure and as we have been and will be continuing to open facilities as permitted under the State guidelines. All specific retail, fitness, tennis, pool and beach State guidelines are listed with respective department news update sections later in this newsletter. Additionally, we have recently updated our security connection on OceanEdgeClub.com and encourage you to update your password. To do so, please visit the member homepage>>my profile>>change password. If you need assistance, please contact (774) 323-6021. Finally, in accordance to the communication that was provided at the time of the Executive Order from the Governor, the club is providing in the form of a gift certificate, a club credit that represents 50% of the dues paid for April’s closure of Club facilities. As always, thank you for your patience as we adjust to the new normal here at the Club. Sincerely, Michael Medeiros Club Manager

Member Relations & Communications As a new member of the Ocean Edge team, I am very eager to meet all of our valued Members and bring exciting new elements to the Member experience. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, getting to know all of you is going a lot differently than I expected when I started working at Ocean Edge. While I am happy to now be at the front desk in the Clubhouse meeting Members each and every day, there are still many of you that I have yet to meet. In an effort to get to know some of you better as we adjust to the new normal, I have come up with a fun way to learn more about you, our Members, and what you love about the Club at Ocean Edge. One of the first things I was most looking forward to heading into the 2020 season was getting feedback on some of your favorite aspects of the Club. In an effort to do this from home, I invite you to share with me some of your fondest photo memories from past seasons at Ocean Edge. Take a look back at your photo album, and find a few of your favorite pictures featuring yourself, friends, and family enjoying Ocean Edge during better times. Send these photos to my email, emma.haselton@oceanedge.com, and virtually introduce yourself. I’d love to hear what you have all been up to at home, while also putting faces to names. While I look forward to seeing the photos you share, I am even more excited to welcome you all back to a safe and healthy Club environment as we move farther into the Summer season. Sincerely, Emma Haselton Member Relations & Communications Manager
Agronomy News Upon taking the position here at Ocean Edge, my first goal and priority was to repair and update many of the irrigation issues that affected the property. With the completion of our fitting replacement, jockey pump redevelopment/ replacement, and Link 900 Rain Bird communication upgrade we have made great progress this spring. Once the bigger projects were completed, our attention turned to the details of our irrigation system. While the golf course was closed, our main goal was to get our irrigation system as finely tuned as we could so we could then turn our attention to other projects and improvements.
The Agronomy staff has been working on the pruning of our flyover conservation areas. Holes 8, 9, and 14 were the areas of pruning. We were able to prune the areas to their specific height in accordance with the orders of conditions. The first 20ft into the area can be pruned to 3 feet, the next twenty feet pruned to 5 feet. See the improvements in the pictures above. We are glad we were able to prepare the course for a beautiful opening for all of you. Sincerely, Craig Sullivan Golf Course Superintendent
Golf News We are excited to be fully open and operating on the course at this time. You will begin seeing some new faces in the Pro Shop with the addition of Chris Lahey, the new Golf Shop Assistant, and John Thomas, the new Outside Service Attendant. Both Chris and John are looking forward to the upcoming golf season and assisting Members with any golf needs they may have. We also introduced a new score card at the start of this season, which is designed to more effectively identify the tee boxes when using the combo set. Here is the new scorecard.
We are looking forward to a great Golf season!
Sincerely, Brett Gilmore

Fitness News We all have been affected by the pandemic one way or another. The newss and social media can all be very overwhelming and stressful. WebMD has some great tips on how to manage your stress. • Keep a positive attitude. • Accept that there are events that you cannot control. • Be assertive instead of aggressive. Assert your feelings, opinions, or beliefs instead of becoming angry, defensive, or passive. • Learn and practice relaxation techniques; try meditation, yoga, or tai-chi for stress management. • Exercise regularly. Your body can fight stress better when it is fit. • Eat healthy, well-balanced meals. • Learn to manage your time more effectively. • Set limits appropriately and learn to say no to requests that would create excessive stress in your life. • Make time for hobbies, interests, and relaxation. • Get enough rest and sleep. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events. • Don't rely on alcohol, drugs, or compulsive behaviors to reduce stress. • Seek out social support. Spend enough time with those you enjoy. • Seek treatment with a psychologist or other mental health professional trained in stress management or biofeedback techniques to learn healthy ways of dealing with the stress in your life. I hope you find a few of these helpful and look forward to seeing everyone in person soon! Sincerely, Heidi VanAmburgh Member Sports Club Manager
Healthy Recipe 600 Calorie Healthy Eating from bbcgoodfood.com 2 fresh tuna steaks, about 175g/6oz each 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 large garlic clove, crushed 1 tbsp chopped rosemary leaves
For the salad 410g can cannellini bean, drained and rinsed 8 cherry tomatoes, quartered ½ small red onion, thinly sliced 50g bag arugula or rocket 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp wholegrain mustard 1 tsp clear honey
1. Put the tuna in a shallow dish, drizzle over the oil and lemon juice, scatter over the garlic and rosemary. Turn the tuna so it’s well coated. Cover and put in the fridge for 30 minutes (you can leave it for longer if convenient). 2. Tip the beans into a large bowl. Toss in the tomatoes, onion and rocket. Put the oil, lemon juice, mustard, honey and salt and pepper in a screw top jar. Seal and put aside. 3. Heat a cast iron ridged grill pan or frying pan until very hot. Cook the tuna on a moderately high heat for 2 minutes each side – don’t overcook or it will be dry. 4. Shake the dressing. Pour over the salad. Mix. Serve the salad with the tuna on top.
