to FPD’s Center for Discovery! The Center for Discovery is full of exciting opportunities for students and adults to learn new hobbies, improve their skills or expand their knowledge. Our goal is to present original classes and camps that are taught in the Christ-centered environment of First Presbyterian Day School. All classes are open to the community and offer unique ways to learn beyond the classroom. S.T.E.A.M. FUN! Summer Splish Splash

For boys and girls rising in grades PreK - 1

Wild About Math

For boys and girls rising in grades 2 - 5 Children who are wild about math will love this camp! Campers will brush up on their math skills while working together to complete S.T.E.M. challenges, think through logic puzzles, and play fun math games.

Once Upon a Time S.T.E.A.M. Fun For boys and girls rising in grades 2 - 5

Join us for a fun week of fairytale-themed S.T.E.A.M. challenges and experiments. We will explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math all through beloved classics like Rapunzel, the Three Little Pigs, and Goldilocks.

Bat League Camp

For boys and girls rising in grades 1 - 5 Enter the Dark City where evil villains wreak havoc. Thankfully there is a bat hero who comes out each night to fight against these evil-doers! The good guys will ride into action as campers build motorized models of the bat hero’s speedy vehicle and bat girl sleek cycle.

Transformation Creation

For boys and girls rising in grades 1 - 5 Get ready to build and discover how your model transforms!

Campers will love the mash-up combination models that can be rebuilt into something different. These awesome 2-in-1 models will include exciting robots, vehicles, and more!

Brick City Engineers

For boys and girls rising in grades K - 5 Let’s build a city! There are many different types of engineering jobs and building is one of the most fun! Campers will put their engineering and architecture skills to work as they build citythemed models using LEGO® bricks.

READING & WRITING ADVENTURES

Video Game Creation Camp

Handwriting Heaven

Students will develop a range of coding and problem-solving skills as they create fun video games. Game designers will think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively to create various video games. Each game progressively teaches more advanced capabilities within the video game design software. Students will be proud to play their own completed video games.

Students will learn the correct way to hold a pencil and crayon for maximum control. We will use a variety of activities approved by occupational therapists (trained in Handwriting Without Tears) that will strengthen these muscles and help them practice in fun ways.

Students will take home a special pencil grip, along with photos of correct posture, grip options, and activities that can be practiced at home.

Stop Motion Video Camp

The World of Harry Potter

For boys and girls rising in grades 3 - 8

For boys and girls rising in grades 2 - 8

In this unique and creative camp, student will plan, script, stage, shoot, and produce their own mini-movie using stopmotion animation. Campers will use LEGO® bricks to tell a story, complete with music, special effects, and all of your favorite LEGO® mini-figure characters.

Do you love all things Harry Potter? Come spend a fun-filled week of activities related to the Harry Potter books. Your week will begin with a sorting ceremony followed by creating crests and drinking butter beer. The week will also include house competitions and crafts, as well as acting out different scenes from the Harry Potter books. Friday will conclude with awarding the House Cup.

Leadership Camp

For boys and girls rising in grades 6 - 8 Students will work on positive character traits, team-building, and cooperation. Sessions will include various topics and activities such as team-building exercises, everyday dialogues, and Bible study. This is a great program for any middle-schooler who wants to know more about what it takes to be a successful, godly leader.

Students can attend any two dates from the dates listed below. **Please email James Moore at james.moore@fpdmacon.org to confirm the two dates you have chosen.

Summer SAT Prep

For boys and girls rising in grades 10 - 11 Get ready to take the SAT in this prep class led by FPD Director of College Counseling, Brad Thompson. Geared toward new SAT test-takers, this class will go over each section and will also cover how to register, what the test looks like and other helpful information for SAT test takers. This preparatory class will greatly increase a student’s opportunities for a higher score on the SAT. For boys and girls rising in grades 6 - 8 Are you excited about getting to high school and participating in Spirit Week? Come join us for a spirit-filled week of activities just for middle school students! We’ll enjoy Lip Sync Day, Relay Day, Community Service Day, Messy Game Day, and more!

Cheerleading Mini-Camp & Competition Cheer For girls in grades 3K - 6

Learn the basics of cheerleading with the FPD JV and Varsity cheerleading squads! We’ll learn cheers, dances, and introductory stunting and tumbling. We’ll also talk about what it means to be a cheerleader on a team and for life!

Viking Soccer Camp

For boys and girls rising in grades PreK - 7 Learn the game of soccer in a challenging and fun environment.

Receive soccer training through games and competitions while learning basic rules, techniques, and what it means to be a Christian athlete. All participants will receive a t-shirt.

Wrestling Camp

For boys rising in grades 1 - 8 Learn the fundamentals of wrestling. Participants will be paired by weight and age. Come ready to work hard and learn one of the oldest and most competitive sports.

For boys rising in grades 2 - 7 This camp favorite will focus on the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and pitching. Each camp day will end in games.

Superstar Tennis Camp

For boys and girls rising in grades 1 - 6 Games, recreation, and drills will focus on proper techniques to hit a forehand, backhand, serves, volleys, and introduce campers to the rules of the game. Most of all, it will be FUN! Campers must bring a racquet, water bottle, and wear sunscreen.

Future Stars Camp for girls will combine drills for improving skills while playing and having fun. If you are interested in playing on the middle school girls team next year, this camp will help you make the team.

Creative Movement

Calling All Artists

Creative movement directs the energy of young children with music, physical activity, and various props, such as scarves, parachutes, ribbon sticks, beanbags, etc. It is a great way for them to be active while encouraging creativity, imagination, and physical development! A light snack will be provided each day.

Calling all artists to come create! We will try some crazy techniques and produce some AWESOME pieces! We will get dirty and have fun doing so. Various materials will be used. We will also go to the playground and eat lunch together. All campers should bring a lunch with them each day.

This camp will allow dancers to experience traditional ballet classes and contemporary “pop” dance classes, which will combine a variety of dance styles such as jazz, lyrical, and hip hop. There will be a brief performance on Thursday for family and friends to show what campers have learned.

Come get messy as we create art. We will use different techniques and material as we create artwork in our action- packed environment. We will also go to the playground and eat lunch together (lunches sent from home). Come join this action-packed art week of fun.

CRAFTY CREATIONS

“Sew” Much Fun - Adult Class

Splat, Pat, Play

Come learn how to make an apron, a pillowcase, and other projects. Participants will create a notebook with instructions on how to put in a zipper, button, and more fun things. Sewing machine and supplies are included. Space is limited.

For boys and girls rising in grades PreK - 1 Children will use household material and art supplies to experiment, explore, and create their own unique masterpieces.

American Girl Doll Camp For girls rising in grades 1 - 3

Grab your favorite American Girl doll (or American Girl style doll) and join us at American Girl Doll Camp! Each day, we’ll read stories, play games and participate in activities related to the different dolls and the times and places they represent. You’ll also make crafts and accessories for both you and your doll.

TASTY TREATS Cookie Camp

For teenagers and adults (12 and up) If you’ve been wanting to learn to bake and decorate cute and fun sugar cookies, this is the class for you! We will share our tips and tricks for baking and icing cookies for every occasion. This handson class will cover step-by-step instructions for mixing and rolling dough, followed by learning to make and decorate with easy royal icing. Participants will take home the cookies they decorate on a new cookie sheet!

VOICE Vocal Camp

For boys and girls rising in grades 6 - 12 Music vocal camp will teach the fundamentals of basic music theory and music reading. Students will also learn vocal training and techniques for their developing voices. Students will select a song and rehearse with a vocal teacher one on one. Each student will perform their selections in front of the class preparing for the final performance on the last day of camp.

Musical Theatre Summer Camp

This musical theatre camp will feature activities from Frozen.

Students explore favorite characters, songs, and scenes. The camp concludes with a demonstration on Friday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a pizza party.

For boys and girls rising in grades PreK - 6

This camp allows children to explore the wonderful world of the performing arts through drama, music, and movement. The camp will focus on songs from Peter Pan, Jr. and will conclude with a demonstration on Friday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a pizza party.
