he period January to April 2016 saw a total of 2,073,851, which registered another milestone in the history of the industry by surpassing the 2 millionth mark in just 4 months.

he number of Filipino ancestry in Canada is continuously rising in the recent years since 2006. Between the years of 2011 - 2014 the Filipino community in Canada grew from 310,866 to 376,740, compared to the rest of Canada which only grew by about 5%. On average, Canada received about 20,500 Filipino immigrants every year between years 2011 – 2014. (data from Commission of Filipinos Overseas) In 2016, immigrants came to Canada from over 190 countries. In fact, 296,340 new permanent residents landed in Canada, a 9% increase compared to the previous year.

For a third year in a row, the Philippines and India were the top source countries of immigrants to Canada. In fact, immigration from these countries accounted for 28% of the total intake in 2016. Syria ranked as the third source country of immigrants, accounting for 11.8% of the total intake in 2016.

here are approximately half a million people of Filipino ancestry in Canada, about 1.5 per cent of the overall population. The number of immigrants from the Philippines has increased dramatically in the recent years and since 2006 is the number one source of new immigrants to Canada, surpassing both China and India.

Here are some data from the 2011 National Household Survey for people in Canada who listed the Philippines as their place of birth: – 454,340 identified as immigrants; – 292,505 had Canadian citizenship; – 15,000 held Canadian passports and at least one other passport – 46,615 were listed as “non permanent residents”– mostly students, refugees or people living in Canada through programs such as the Temporary Foreign Worker or Live-in Caregiver programs; – Most people born in the Philippines live in Ontario: 218,660, and more specifically, Toronto, with 185,085.

– As a percentage of the provincial population, Manitoba has more Filipinos than Toronto has. They make up nearly four per cent of the population of that province, compared with 3.4 per cent of the population of Toronto.

– In 2012, Canada admitted 32,704 Filipinos as permanent residents, an increase of 146 per cent since 2004.

– Tagalog, one of the main languages of the Philippines, was the mother tongue reported by 320,100 people in Canada in 2011, the most popular immigrant mother tongue after Chinese languages. In 1996, Tagalog as a first language accounted for 158,210 or 0.6 per cent of the population. It is one of the fastest-growing immigrant languages in Canada.
