BBHS joins quincentennial anniversary

In the Philippines, this month marks the introduction of Christianity as well as other activities. On the 20th day of April in the current year, Baras- Baras High School hung the Philippine flag and displayed quincentennial banners led by its AP Leader, Ma’am Mafhel Pili in support of the Philippines’ 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations.

Mayor Cristy establishes COVID-19 quarantine facility in Baras-Baras SHAYNE ALYSON BASILIO Mayor Cristy Angeles turned the Evacuation Center in Barangay BarasBaras, Tarlac City as a Quarantine Facility for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.

Despite of the various implementations towards the Pandemic, as of May 3, 2021, the Department of Health has confirmed 146 COVID-19 cases, 76 recoveries and 13 deaths in the Province of Tarlac. Upon the threat of the continuous number of COVID-19 positive cases in the said Province, Mayor Cristy Angeles decided to lend the Evacuation Center located in Brgy.

“As a student, these facilities will keep the community healthy and prevent the virus from spreading to other parts of the city. As a result, asymptomatic or moderate cases, as well as suspected cases, can be identified immediately. But the problem I see here is the small space of our community.” said Lloyd Romin from Grade 12 Orwell.

It is said that 35 asymptomatic patients can fill the fully secured facility with 24/7 monitoring of the doctors and nurses from the City Health Office.

“To be honest, I am scared about the risk of having quarantine facility, but I trust that they will not agree to build this without any purpose” said by Carmela Sulpacio from Grade 11 Marx.

The risky upholding of the Tarlac City Quarantine Facility aims to secure the safety of the family of the patients and to prevent the people’s urge on insisting into our hospitals, and in order to protect our frontliners. The strike of Pandemic is indeed hard to endure but we, Filipinos must strike harder to surpass it.

The 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (2021 QCP) are a series of activities commemorating the 500th anniversary of various events in the Philippines, including the advent of Christianity. Baras-Baras High School, in keeping with its theme of Victory and Humanity, participates in commemorating and reliving the victory and humanity that our forefathers achieved.

With the way it commemorates the quincentennial or 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the earth, the Philippine government wants to change the historical lens. Under the vigorous leadership of Ma’am Mafhel S. Pili, the said celebration was a success.

BBHS SSG officers hone leadership skills in the virtual TaLA RUTH ORENDAIN

Pioneers - Seven student leaders from Baras-Baras High School, partook in the Virtual Tarlac Leadership Assembly from April 24 to May 8, 2021 – despite the unprecedented course of this years’ assembly.

A new chapter of leadership unfolded in the virtual TaLA with the theme “SYNC: Strengthening the Youth through New Connections”. The student leaders of BBHS proved their zeal in being leaders, through participating in every TaLA activities, held in between the said dates. To add, The wisdom shared by notables guest speakers; Atty. Chel Diokno and Ms. Clarissa Balilia, are what also helped the student leaders hone their leadership skills.

The goal of the event is to break barriers and build new connections while empowering student leaders to fathom leadership more deeply, and eventually bring out the best in everyone.

On April 24, the webinar and pre-TALA were held in Zoom, where official facilitators and activities are introduced to the participants. During the Pre-TALA, participants were required to change their profile pictures with the official TALA facebook frame, where

After that, the organizers gave the first asynchronous activity; posting “ALeaderOnceSaid”. It is where participants share their favorite quote from their ideal leader to inspire their fellow students and student leaders.

One of the BBHS student leaders Margie Ayson, posted a quote by Brian Tracy “Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position.”

Afterward, the first synchronous activity was also given. “TALAhulugan”, is an emoji-decoding game, held on April 26, where its purpose is to challenge ones’ critical thinking that is applied in leadership. Ruth Orendain from BBHS, wins 2 out of 3 winning points of her group, in a tie with the opponent. Second is the “TALAsayawan” held on April 28, which is a fun group activity that showed the importance of being enthusiastic as leaders, during this pandemic. It is a dance video compilation of the song “Tala” by Sarah Geronimo –that is posted by each group on Facebook.

The BBHS Supreme Student Government showed their full support to the participants by promoting their videos on their Facebook page, for more chances of winning, for “the most liked video”.

“TALAala” is another posting activity on Facebook, held on May 3, that features or encapsulates the participant’s favorite moments or stories, before the pandemic. SSG secretary officer Mercy Cabenta, posted on Facebook reminiscent pictures of her on fun school activities, way back from the year 2016 to 2020, along with the caption “Covid, take me back.”

Lastly, on the main competition “TALAstasan”;held in April 26 to May 3. Moises Panguelo’s group “The Gambit” won 3rd place in the Podcast-making, where they each discuss their takes on the given topic – “What is a competent leader? or what is the essence of student leadership in todays’ norm?”. Panguelo’s group received a cash prize of 1000 pesos and was featured on TALA’s main event.

BBHS embraces ‘new normal’ college application process KEZIAH JEMIMAH MANGACO Amidst the new normal, the grade 12 students faced difficult decisions about the college application brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this situation, the future college students of Baras-Baras High School embrace the new normal college application process.

Tarlac State University (TSU) and Tarlac Agricultural University announces the opening of college admission evaluation (CAE) for incoming freshmen for the school year 2021-2022, the submission of online application of TSU is from January 26, 2021 until April 30, 2021 and the TAU is from April 5, 2021 to June 5, 2021.

The higher education environment is almost evolving each day and the college application process itself is complicated enough that it directly affects the students. 10 out 59 students didn’t enroll in this year’s college application.

On those who pursued college education

Despite the changes, grade 12 students of BBHS are still largely interested in pursuing higher education and tried to apply for the new normal college application. Most of the students send their application form in Tarlac State University and some are in Tarlac Agricultural University.

Aizelle Panguelo is the SSG President of BBHS. According to her, some things have changed when it comes to applying to college in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. Aside from the changes happening in the applying process, deciding on what courses they must choose also have changed.

This is because during this pandemic there are many jobs that are affected.

For example some students dreamt to become flight attendants at first, but then the pandemic happened and there are airlines that have been affected and drop-off some of their crews.

This impacted the decisions of the students by thinking that they will have a very low chance to work in airlines, if this pandemic still exists after college.

As a solution, they chose another course as an alternative to what they

really want to become for their future.

But looking at the brighter side, Panguelo insisted that despite their difficulty in choosing their courses, the thought of not pursuing college after Senior High school never came into their mind for the reason that they are really determined to reach their sure goals.

BBHS studes condemn Filipinos’ marginalized comments on Miss Universe contenders Disgrace – students of BBHS says that we should not tolerate Filipinos’ indulgence on offensive racial “jokes” and baseless accusations towards Miss Universe contestants.

On May 16, 2021, Rabiya Mateo represented our country in the Miss Universe 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it meant mounts of unprecedented social media-centered pageants effort for both candidates, organizations, as well as for the supporters. When pictures of the candidates are posted on social media, the upsurge of Filipinos’ posts, comments, and memes once again blows up in Facebook and other social media platform. Although a majority of the Filipinos showed their patriotism and their full support on Rabiya, there has also been many ignorant Filipinos that started an online hate, such as giving racist comments and false accusations towards other Miss Universe candidates, that students of BBHS condemn.

According to Keziah Mangaco of grade 12 Orwell, the Filipinos showed a crab mentality and tend to drag other Filipino down, instead of showing support to our representative –when ignorant Filipinos called a woman of color( Miss Canada) “scary” and “burnt chicken”. “I feel embarrassed for some of my Filipino

pageant fans for their racist jokes and comments towards Miss Canada. Yes, no one says you have to support all the contestants, but we Filipinos must learn to support our delegates without bringing others down,” she stated.

“All of these attitudes should stop. This cannot be our fate, and we cannot accept that these stupid and toxic acts remarks from these ignorant bigots who happen to be Filipinos are what would define us as a people,” she added.

The racial discrimination towards Miss Canada wasn’t just the only disgraceful part that Filipinos did during the Miss Universe’s competition. They also accused Miss Thailand of being a “copycat” of Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray, and made hateful comments disguised as a compliment, with a Tagalog context telling her that she wouldn’t win. Many Filipinos found this “jokes” funny until Miss Thailand learned about the hateful comments.

BBHS teacher, Jon Henry Ordonez, conducted an assessment for the number of struggling JHS non- readers, but upon investigating further he found out that there are still many non-readers – in contrary to his first assessment.

When Mr. Ordonez received the initial assessments from the English teachers of BBHS about the number of struggling non-reader in BBHS, the assessment concluded that there is only one non-reader in JHS. However, Sir Jon took the initiative and directly asked some students to became better acquainted with the actual number of struggling non-readers and discovered that there were more students that is not included in the report.

After several home visitations and dialogues with the students and the parents, sir Jon, then made the effort to also form an extension program for the community. When sir Jon was asked about the reasons to why he took the initiative to form an extension program despite his busy schedules and obligations as a senior high school teacher, sir Jon said there is no reason.

“I can recall a quote from the anime, My Hero Academia that goes something like this, “Many heroes all show the same quality when they’re younger — they all remember their bodies moving before their minds could think.” And though I haven’t really thought of my personal reason for doing this initiative — let alone know where to even get the resources to execute this program. All I know is that they needed help and my body just moved,” he stated.

Thereupon, Sir Jon made home visitations, some in remote areas –for the struggling non-readers and individually taught them the step-by-step knowledge on reading. After interacting with the parents and the students, sir Jon found out that most of the reason for these number of struggling non-reader, connects to the limited communication towards educators

Likewise, submitting module personally can also imply this instance of submitting late especially with limitations with the government on those people that can only go outside.

Moreover, this kind of system will create a culture where a student’s top priority is just to finish everything prior to the date without minding if he or she actually learned from the materials.

Students nowadays are going through mental as a result, they tend to lessen this burden by seeking help with others just to get it done.

WALKING BETWEEN

LEARNING AND COMPLIANCE Learning distance education has become a part of the new normal not only to abide with the mandate of the government, but also to respond with the need of continuous learning. Things are not easy for both teachers and students when moving academically from one phase to another. The unexpected transition brought by this pandemic becomes a struggle without sufficient opportunities to design for a new mode of learning.

In addition, our countries capability to provide us with faster internet connection is also a matter for consideration. According to the data of Ookla Report of global mobile internet speed rankings, the Philippines moved up to the 86th spot in in January 2021. This is a marked improvement from its 111th rank in the same period last 2020. For fixed broadband, the country’s average download speed was recorded at 32.73 Mbps.

With all these data and facts collected, it is indeed undeniable if everyone is at the same phase of embracing the new normal. With this being said, it is considered that somehow, the ineffectiveness of blended learning is a hard to swallow pill for both educators and students.

There are demands academically that students need to meet adding to the burden of how to get it done simply because blended learning is not for everyone.

These changes occured from face to face to new normal eduaction is really a big rock we faced. I know that a lot of us have thought of giving up, and just let everything to God. But I know that they didn’t. Because an honor student like me wouldn’t just give up that fast, wouldn’t give up beacuse we have good pressure that pushes us to be strong enough to conquer every battles we will face.

GOOD PRESSURE Have you ever seen an honor student which just relaxes and does nothing to maintain his/her grades but still able to be an honor student? If so, those are honor students that are gifted in terms of iq capacity. They can maintain their grades without pressure, without working too hard, and without fear of failing, well a big “sana all” to them. Because from normal honor students like me, it is indeed different. Difficult that has been more difficult because of distance leaning. Do you know how difficult?

Honor students like us, are somehow called greedy on grades. People think that we are demanding, we aren’t satisfied with only passing grades. We aren’t someone who’s gonna let our requirements blank at all. If possible we will do it advancedly. We are someone who carries a big pressure on our mind, on our heart, and on our body.

Why? Because we are honor students that fear failing our family, friends, and relatives’ expectation. The society sink

in to our mind that we need to maintain our grades or else people will think that we didn’t study hard, we are having distractions and worse, we messed up.

These things isn’t already new to honor students like me. We have able to accept these things as our responsibilities to continue what we have started.

However, this just last October, a new book of difficulties challenged us. From a stone, we faced a rock.

Distance Learning is an alternative way of learning that has been implemented enable to continue schooling even in the midst of pandemic. We, honor students are greatly thankful because we are given the chance to continue our legacy in school. However, it didn’t became easy for us to cope up with a lot of changes occured.

First of all, the change from face to face to modular class, wherein we won’t already be thought by our teachers traditionally. We will have to

Second, it is difficult for us to remember the lessons as it just passes on our eyes without a valid explanation given by the teachers that is supposed to be if it’s face to face learning.

Third, the adjustments of time is also hard as the time in home isn’t all yours.

As someone who loves a good story, I’d like to tell you one. I am a high school student, who always join press cons but I didn’t win even one. I used to write personal essays, short stories, poems just because I am a HUMSS student. There is one time I compared myself to a lantern. If I would be a lantern, I am probably - A lantern without a fire.

I used to be contented being amazed looking up on other lanterns above the sky, and dreamt that I am one of them.

Not until I became the Editor-in-chief of this Publication, my perception totally changed. I’ve realized I need to open up my heart and find the light within myself.

Honestly, it’s been tough because of our situation in today’s COVID-19 Pandemic, started from selecting our staff writers to complete the publication line –up. A SYMPTOM OF A FAILED GOVERNMENT Keziah Jemimah Mangaco The pandemic, along with the expansion of community pantries, has ushered in a new period of “bayanihan.”Yes, bayanihan implies we help each other, but this time it’s just because we don’t have any other choices.It is not against the law to feed the hungry and help those in need. Instead of being red-tagged, community pantries should be nurtured.

People contribute food and other supplies to community pantries, also known as food banks, which are situated on streets or plazas and provided to anyone in need.The first community pantry opened on April 14, 2021, at Quezon City’s Maginhawa Street, a middle-class area. Anna Patricia Non, is the woman behind the quickly spreading community pantries in the Philippines during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

On Maginhawa Street, Ana Patricia Non, a 26-year-old community pantry organizer, set up a single bamboo cart with basic food items.Community pantries embody the Filipino spirit of “bayanihan.”

A homemade cardboard sign on the cart said, “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailan-

gan,” which translates to “Give according to one’s ability, get according to one’s need.”A few days after the one in Maginhawa began, the idea of establishing communal pantries gained traction, and this improvised version of old Marxist doctrine quickly went viral.

Ana Patricia Non, the organizer of the pioneering Maginhawa Community Pantry, revealed in a social media post that she had temporarily halted operations when three police officers demanded her personal information, including her phone number and membership in groups.

The Maginhawa community pantry temporarily ceased operations after its organizer was accused of having communist affiliations. It has been subjected to policing and red-tagged.

Instead of basic actions, like helping a neighbor relocate or conducting community clean-up drives, the inactivity of the government on problems like pandemic-born hunger has pushed us against the wall. This new era of bayanihan has occurred into realization because of the significant problems the government has not resolved.

Constitution, we can see that the government’s goal is to create a “just and humane society.” It is the government’s obligation to guarantee that all citizens are cared for and treated fairly.Food and safety are what the people in these situations require.

This government has failed to provide us with what we deserve. The billions we borrowed and the taxes we paid

should have been enough to ensure that no one fell between the cracks during the crisis.

Community pantries shouldn’t be necessary in the first place, if we think about it.Yet here we are, once again dependent on the generosity of private individuals to ensure our survival.

Even when we are only wanting to help, still we need to seek permission.

Inclined with the rising numbers of positive cases of Covid-19 in the Philippines, the government decided to have the country undergo a quarantine on March 2019 which limits the people from going out of their houses. The normal living has suddenly stopped. Establishments were closed, the school year 20192020 was paused. And because of that, many people lost their jobs and source of income. So when the new school year started in the middle of pandemic, students thought of a way to help sustain the needs of their families.

The opening of the school year made way for students to earn money in a way that they can also learn more. Intellectual Prostitution became a popular business for the students. Payments in exchange of written works. And I think it is good for the people who needs money, who needs to support their family.

But on the other side, the students who pay for their projects is clearly an example of how lazy people can be.

As a student who works hard to achieve a high grade and bountiful knowledge, I disagree on how

some of the students decided to deal with their educational problems. According to potomac.edu, out of 6.7 million college students, nearly 70% claimed that online learning is as good or better than traditional classroom settings. This proves that even college students were able to comply and go with the flow even in these hard times.

I believe that determination and willingness can be a good characteristics in finishing every project and school works. There is also time management which can be a very big help if practiced properly. But because intellectual prostitution were made, students felt at ease to not do any project and just rely on what their money can do. I would have also made this choice if but know that it would not lead to good results.

Students who depend on others to finish their works may not remember anything from their classes or lessons. Projects are made to determine the knowledge of the students on their lessons. And if the students chose to pass their responsibility, they may not learn anything at all. According to PayScale, these are the top three hard skills most recent grads are lacking: writing proficiency, public speaking, and data analysis. If you’ll remember, most of these skills can be nurtured through projects and school works that being assigned to the students.

Tolerating their attitude in depending on others about their tasks can lead to laziness in the future. This can effect on how they will live their life.

We can consider this type of solution in times of desperation only with deep analysis of the situation. But as long as we know in our self that we can do every project, let’s not depend on the power of our money, but rather help ourselves overcome these beneficial challenge given to us.

ANIME WORLD PORTAL PRECIOUS MAE BARCENA I mostly watch cartoons on canton network before I ended up watching anime series and movies. I began watching anime later than most otaku.

Otaku is a Japanese term for people who have interest in anime and manga. My reason why I avoided watching anime before is because for me anime is weird. Really weird that the animation is very unique and you’ll feel lots of emotions and they’ve made me feel something I can’t really describe. The first emotion I felt is being amazed on how they done it very well, from the smallest to biggest details on the whole duration of the anime I watched which is Attack on titan.

I also felt a bit more happy and open-minded, as if each series had its own underlying philosophy.

It was summer of 2014 when I first watched an anime series. Shingeki no Kyojin also known as Attack on titan is the first anime I watched; it is good that my perceptions about anime changed. Since then, I explored the anime world and that became my obsession.

Anime is a style of Japanese TV or Film. Anime typically aimed adults as well as children. Japanese animation is Japan’s most prominent culture features.

Japanese Animation debuted in 1960’s. These are countless of animations produced and release every year. Anime shows are popular locally because they portray themes and plots. They produced genre about science fictions, police stories, historical, adventures, romance, comedy etc.

Many Filipinos love to watch anime particularly the students. Maybe half of the population of the Philippines watch anime. The reason why the students are fond watching anime is because most of the shows in the Philippines are comedy, drama and actions. You can’t see much animated movies or films in the Philippines. According to Japan Info, anime has become one of the best resources nowadays to tell stories in any genre and for any audience which are generally aimed adults as well as children.

Anime got famous towards students of Baras-Baras High School. It started during the first weeks of Lockdown and became more well-known after ABS-CBN shut down. Some of Otaku have fictiophilia, it is an attraction towards fictional characters it is commonly known as fan boy or fan girls. Otaku became fictiophilia is mainly because they became infatuated to the anime characters for the reason of the character’s features.

Anime gained success in other countries specially in the Philippines when early series such as Dragon ball, Astro boy, Sailor Moon and Slam Dunk. There are many people who started to become interested in Japan they even inspired to learn Japanese.

The Japanese animation has crossed the Japanese boundaries, creating fans and viewers overseas and that includes the students of Baras-Baras High School.

You can find different kinds of genre in Anime. Here are some anime series and movies that Baras-Baras High School students might enjoy to watch.

IF YOU ARE A NEW TO ANIME Death Note If you were a complete beginner in watching anime, Death Note is an example if you like Psychological thrillers and super natural.

Death Note is about a boy who found a book that can kill people. Light Yagami found the Death Note, as long as Light knows the targets name and face after he writes it in Death Note the person will die.

Attack on Titan If you like post-apocalyptic world, Action, Dark fantasy, Brutal, Attack on Titan is best for you.

It is an adventures of Son Goku. The story begins with a young monkey-tailed boy named Goku befriend with a teenager girl named Bulma. Together they go on adventure to find the seven magical Dragon Balls. Dragon Balls which have the ability to summon the powerful Dragon Shenron who can grant whoever summoned him their greatest desire.

FOR BBHS STUDENTS THAT ARE INTO SUPER HEROES My Hero Academia The anime “My Hero Academia” is about a boy born without super powers called Quirks in their world, but the boy still dreams to becoming a super hero himself.

One Punch Man It tells the story of Saitama; a super hero can defeat any opponent with a single punch. Saitama seeks

FOR BBHS STUDENTS THAT ARE INTO SPORTS Kuroko no Basketball The Teiko Junior High basketball team rose to distinction by demolishing basketball teams within Japan, winning the junior high Nationals for three consecutive years. The all-star players of the team became known as the Generation of Miracles. After graduating from middle school, the five star players went to different high schools with top basketball teams.

Haikyuu!!

It revolves the story around a Determined boy to be like the volleyball championship’s star player Shouyou, a short boy nicknamed “the small giant,” joins his school’s volleyball club.

Hinata Shouyou, a short middle school student, gained a sudden love of volleyball after watching a national championship match on TV. Jujutsu Kaisen The story of Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where Cursed Spirits feed on unsuspecting humans and fragments of the legendary and feared demon Ryomen Sukuna have been lost and scattered about.

Demon Slayer Demon Slayer is revolving the story around with the boy named Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado together with their friends Inosuke and Zenitsu. Tanjiro and Nezuko mother and siblings is found dead in their house. Tanjiro know that a Demon is the culprit the reason his mother and siblings died, Nezuko became a half demon.

SCHOOL/ROMANCE Toradora The story follow follows the two main character named Taiga Aisaka and Ryūji Takasu. Ryuji Takasu is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. However, he unexpectedly runs into “the school’s most dangerous animal of the highest risk level. A Senior High School student of Baras-Baras High School is ventured into online selling-one of the safest ways to get income during a pandemic.

This student is Raine Tagara of 11 Pandora. She said that at her first attempt she feels scared to purchase a bale of clothes which is for her ukayukay business but since her mind says “if you just fear everything, you’ll be nothing”. Therefore, before she grabbed the opportunity she prays in above that her business will be a victory and because prayer is powerful the result is 3 bales have been sold.

But despite the good results, she experiences difficulties first, because her items are ukay-ukay expect that the quality of each clothes isn’t better like other clothes we buy in the market or mall. The challenges she encountered are some clothes have a stain, that hard to sell, and those who say “mine” they didn’t get the item in the exact time so they struggling to reach the profit and they are the ones who obliges to pay for the item/s.

Raine Tagara’s mindset is what’s the youth need, especially in this pandemic. She said that “our mindset should be always positive because it is the law of attraction, if your mindset is full of negativity nothing will happen to you, you’ll just make your life harder hundred times”. In addition, the World is round, if you are at the bottom now, you’ll not be there always, because someday, somewhere, unexpectedly, you’ll be at the top.

The first is to Set your goals, it will assist students to focus on what should need to be prioritized.

It is also helpful in terms of improving planning, organizing, and communicating. The Fourth tip is to Trust God and yourself, these tips help her to take risk in her goals, she gives all her worries and let God guide her in the path she wants to pursue. For her Just trust the almighty Lord because He will provide the right time for her success. TikTok is known in China as Douyin, is a video-sharing social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance.

The social media platform is used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy, and education, that have a duration from 15 seconds to 1 minute.

A 15-years old girl who studies in Baras-Baras High School went viral in the Tiktok application.

Her account garnered more than a thousands of followers and views, comments, and likes.

According to her, she started entering the Tiktok world since 2019 but stopped and continued it in year 2020 -- the onset of the global quarantine.

This girl’s name is Cecelia Endaya, a junior high school student, who’s making waves creating adorable videos for entertainment purposes.

Her video contents are focused on dancing, video editing and voiceovering some words of Japanese. The video where she went viral were when she voiceover some anime voices that were requested by her followers. It’s gained a lot of compliments due to her cute soft voice.

She said that posting videos in her Tiktok accounts is fun because there’s a lot of people who appreciate her efforts. Her followers are so supportive and it helped her build confidence.

In addition, She uses TIktok to lessen her stress and to entertain people, it also helped her to not feel bored while in the pandemic and improve her skills in acting, dancing, and editing.

Tiktok helps individuals gain confidence and learn new things in a series of short-clip videos.

WHAT TO DO DURING HOME QUARANTINE? ANGEL CHOGYOMON It’s been a year since the global pandemic hit the whole world many countries are undergoing a home quarantine to secure the safety of their people. As for now, we’re not yet allowed to go out and meet each other. Many people are depressed and hopeless because of the less exposure outside and lack of communication. Yet, other people can see this as an opportunity to start a new life and new routine. We can be a different version of ourselves that no one has seen before, trying to do many things that can distract them from negativity.

A singer can be a dancer, can be an artist, or can be a writer. There are no rules now that you’re alone and free to explore your ability to create and grow at home. Being health-conscious is a good sign to start changing and prioritizing your body.

If you’re good at Arts, you can try a new art style to challenge your capacity as an artist. You can try calligraphy or painting, which is a good distraction and discovery for an artist. If you want to help our mother nature to heal, you better help out your mother by planting plans outside. You shall do it together while asking her to pay for your parcel. It can be your time together as bonding and to build a strong connection between each other. Writing is also a good way of expressing yourself, emotions, and opinions. In this time of crisis, all we can see is negativity and hopelessness. Do it on midnight. This isn’t a healthy life-hack but this works perfectly for me because according to research our mind works better on midnight. We are thinking if we will just repeat the whole thing or just place a correction tape on the error part. However due to this pandemic, correction tape isn’t something we prioritized so we eneded up placing an open and close parenthesis for the errors. But don’t worry you’ll never be troubled anymore. Principal acts as the wings and flies that lift their community to the top, but they are still aware of the importance of keeping their feet on the ground.

This year, new wings are flying with us to greatest heights for the academic year 2021, a new star approaches the avenue. An effective school leader who possesses skills to create, implement, evaluate, improve, and share a staff development plan – this is how I describe Mr. Mamerto L. Ragel, Jr., the newly-appointed School Head of Baras – Baras High School.

What inspired you to work in the education sector?

As a second courser (BSBA major in Accounting), it is obvious that being part of the Department of Education wasn’t my first choice.

I aspired to become a bank employee but this aspiration wasn’t for me. I was in my 30s when I decided to shift career and went back to school for my second degree (30 units in Education).

At that age I should have built a stable career but I was only starting to build one -- you can imagine my desperation back then!

I was given the chance to teach in a private school for 4 years but I dreamt more. So I decided to try my luck in the DepEd -- armed with dreams and motivated by a higher salary (laughs).

Education has been active amid various sectors that relied to technology to survive. Computers, the Internet, and advanced electronic devices are becoming essential in everyday life and have changed the way information is gathered and technology affects the way of teachers teach and students learning. Utilizing the technology in the management and curriculum will be the teachers, they have the most important role play in widening the knowledge and resources based on the student’s needs. How does technology help the school even the teachers and students?

The use of technology is a great help for people especially students now in our situation due to pandemic. It is very clear that technology is useful in any aspect of situation using gadget in everyday lives for their online class and answering task even teachers needs a technology to print module, sending soft copy, and communicate for student who can’t submit their modules on time. The rules of

technology in school are to teach students to do certain things quickly. According to academics site, due to its ever-increasing role in the lives of all individuals, technology must be thoughtfully integrated to be truly effective. Its ability to promote communication, collaboration, and creativity is a valuable asset in the pursuit of engaging instruction.

One of student, Carmela Sulpacio from 11-Marx said that “Technology help the students and teacher in terms of communication and it helps the school to provide those worksheets easily for students to still continue their Education. especially were in the new set up of learning so technology play so important role in our school, teachers, and students.”

Nicole Morales from 11-Athena states that “Since technology is undeniably blooming nowadays.

It already became part of everyone’s daily life. Whether in their home, in their work/office, and

most especially in school. Technology helps a lot of students and teachers in their tasks. Now, under our situation wherein students and teachers are not allowed to have face-to-face classes, technology played a big part in our academic life. It became our mode of learning by having online classes.”

It is very clear that technology through this integration, students can become responsible users of the tools that are quickly becoming ubiquitous aspects of our daily lives. Technology motivates students to learn. They look forward to having time on their devices to explore and learn things through websites, videos, apps, and games. Students can learn and have fun at the same time, which helps them stay engaged with the material. Everything is made easier by the use of technology but only limit it because too much is harmful.

SCOREBOARD BBHS held Esports exhibition match; JHS troublemakers shocks Sako Esports JOSEPH ESTILLORE Troublemakers completed its incredible lower bracket run this time around, winning the Baras-Baras High School MobileLegends exhibition game with a sweet 2-1 victory over Sako Esports on Thursday morning, June 16.

Four teams competed for this game coming from students in junior high school ,senior high school ABM strand, Humms strand, and the TVL strand.

The game was good in our eyes, as being spectators who are fellow students of Baras-Baras High School because for us it was the first livestream match in our school.

The game turned terrific when Troublemakers from junior high school was up 1-0 early, but their Sako Esports from senior high school counterparts rallied and won the next-second game to take the upper hand.

Facing defeat, Troublemakers banked on experience to force

against the rubber and steal the victory. Troublemakers’ Ash was named the Finals Most Valuable Player.

Before the title showdown, Troublemakers eliminated Grim Esports of the Humms strand, 1-0, to set up the match against Sako Esports.

On the other hand,Troublemakers still achieved their winning streak from Sako Esports and by preparing the players, the events ended successfully,it ended amazingly, because the two side teams are equally great and the two shoutcaster Laurence Tecson and Prince Mark Castañeda was good observation for all the players.

This e-sports event, was proposed and organized by Sir Jon Henry Ordonez, a Baras-Baras High School teacher, who stated that the event was held to entertain students who were deeply involved in their modules to be build rapport with students he has not yet handled.

LIFE IS A JOURNEY ENJOY THE RIDE! MOISES PANGUELO Even before the pandemic happened in the Philippines, biking has already been one of the famous recreational activity not only among the youth but also the elders as it serves as a source of exercise.

Bicycles have been a mode of transportation since the early 19th century and it quickly become very popular. Through the decades, the design has shaped them, developed them for better performance, and enhanced them so we can reach high speeds, according to The Fact Site.

“Siguro mga 9-10 yrs old ako unang natutong mag bike .

Naulit lang ako mag bike last 2018 after almost 4 yrs naiingit ako sa mga dumadaan sa harap namin at sa mga nakikita

ko kaya naimpluwensyahan ako magbike.” Prince Mark Castañeda, one of the pioneers of BarasBaras Cyclist Club in Baras-Baras, said in an interview.

(I was 9 or 10 when I first learned how to ride a bike. I tried riding again in 2018, almost four years after I learned. I felt jealous every time I see some cyclist passing in front of our house.)

Prince Mark, together with his friends, travelled through biking almost every week. Their experiences has encouraged other youth to also try biking and join their group.

When asked, Castañeda said that the most memorable place he reached while biking was in Baguio City. Baguio City is located at the Province of Benguet in Northern Part of Luzon. “ Nung last 2019, nagride kami

papuntang baguio, naging memorable to dahil yung mga una kong nakasama nung nagsisimula palang ako magbike sila rin yung nakasama ko sa pagakyat ng Baguio.” ( Last 2019, we travelled to Baguio. I became memorable for me because the people I was with when I started biking, are also the people I went with in climbing Baguio.)

He also said that he was inspired to try biking because of his idols in that sport. He men-

tioned one of his idols in the interview which is Peter Sagan, a Slovak professional road bicycle racer.

Nowadays, a day won’t pass by without a cycler riding in the roads of Baras-Baras. It has become of the pastimes of the youth and also the elders who lives in the barangay. It is great that people found a way to ease boredom in times of pandemic, however, cyclers are constantly being reminded to practice safety protocols to avoid any risk of danger and medical injury.
