Greetings!
Welcome to our 45th Annual Gelbvieh and Balancer Bull Sale. We would like to thank all our past customers for your continued support and confidence in our program over the years. Your friendship has meant the world to us. We are looking forward to being your continued source for performance driven, maternally backed, commercially focused Gelbvieh and Balancer Genetics. We believe that Gelbvieh and Balancer genetics produce the hardest working female in the beef industry. Our focus is on building the optimal female that can thrive in any environment. We place maximum emphasis on maternal traits including udder quality, fertility, fleshing ability, and longevity. Our cattle run in large pasture where they are required to climb steep elevations and travel long distances for water. Structurally sound, easy doing cattle are a must. The sires we utilize within our cow herd are selected to produce high performing, fertile, easy fleshing cattle that are problem free and profitable. Our goal is to take the guess work out of the equation for our customers.
This year’s sale offering has exceeded the goals we have set for our program. They are uniform in the makeup regardless of breed percentage. They are thick, long spined, easy fleshing, and exceptional on their feet and legs. This group of bulls were weaned in early September, took to the bunk quickly, and have been the best gaining set we have had to date despite the extreme changes in weather patterns throughout the fall. Disposition is a high priority for us and is a hard line keep/cull factor within our program. This set of bulls is very quiet and handle with ease. They are being developed on a high fiber, roughage based ration and are given plenty of space to exercise. Our natural calves are developed on rugged pastures without supplementation and came home with excellent weaning weights.
Our embryo transfer program continues to be a significant focus, allowing us to expedite the most productive genetics within our herd and continue to utilize some of our strongest cow families throughout our program’s history. You will find several groups of impressive flushmate brothers in this sale line up. Their female siblings are equally impressive in our replacement pen. Our embryo calves are handled with the best care from calving to weaning by Brett Stevens and we are thankful to work with a cooperator that places such a high level of care in place with his herd. At weaning the ET calves are brought to the ranch, integrated with the natural calves, and then all managed together.

Sight Unseen Policy: We will guarantee the complete satisfaction of all sale lots purchased sight unseen. All bids will be handled with the highest appropriateness and confidentiality.

Breeding Guarantee: The breeding period is defined as 90 days following the first turn out of a bull. Beastrom Ranch guarantees purchases selling for $3,500 or more at a value of 100% credit less $1,800 (considered the salvage value of the bull) toward the purchase of one bull in the following year’s bull sale. If the new purchase costs less than the credit amount, no further credit is due. One purchase credit cannot be used on multiple bulls (1 for 1 only). In the event of death or injury, please contact us as soon as possible. If a replacement bull is needed to help you through the breeding season, we will provide one if one is available.
Insurance: To reduce your risk and protect your investment, it is recommended that you purchase livestock mortality insurance on your purchases. Information will be available on sale day.
Delivery: We will keep the bulls free of charge until April 15, 2025. Arrangements can be made to feed the bulls until June 1, 2025 at a rate of $3.50 per day. If you choose to have us care for your purchase, you will be doing so at your own risk and pick up/delivery will be the purchasers responsibility. All bulls will be delivered with a proper breeding soundness exam. Delivery in South Dakota will be free of charge and arrangements can be made for delivery anywhere in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Liability: People that attend this sale do so at their own risk, we are not responsible for accidents.
Semen Interest: We will be retaining a 1/3 semen interest on all sale bulls, unless otherwise state.
Volume Discount: 5% on 5 bulls; 10% on 10 or more bulls

EPD Definitions:
Listed below are the definitions of American Gelbvieh Association EPDs and the units in which they are published.
Maternal traits
Calving ease direct (CED): Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd.
Milk (Milk): The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.
Calving ease maternal (CEM): Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s first-calving daughters. A higher number represents more favorable calving ease. This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals produce daughters with a genetic predisposition to calve unassisted as heifers.
Heifer pregnancy (HP): Predicts the probability that a bull’s daughters will become pregnant as first-calf heifers in a regular breeding season, expressed as a percent. A higher value of this EPD is favorable, meaning that a higher percentage of a sire’s daughters get pregnant as first calf heifers compared to other sires in his contemporary group. 30-month pregnancy (Pg30): Predicts the probability that a bull’s daughters will become pregnant and calve at three years of age, given that they calved as first-calf heifers. This EPD is expressed as a percent, again, with a higher number being more favorable meaning a higher percentage of a sire’s daughters will calve at three years of age, given they calved as first-calf heifers.
Actual weight of bull at birth. BWs for ET bulls are not used as part of their data per AGA.
Weaning weight adjusted to 205 days.
Age of the mother at the time bull was born.
Scrotal circumference (SC): Predicts the difference, in centimeters, of scrotal circumference of an animal’s male offspring at yearling compared to the SC of other animals’ male offspring.
Growth traits
Birth weight (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.
Weaning weight (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning. Yearling weight (YW): Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.
Carcass traits
Yield grade (YG): Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio.
Carcass weight (CW): Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint.
Ribeye area (REA): Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.
Marbling (MARB): Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.
The animal’s breed classification and percentage Gelbvieh.
The animal’s birth weight. All lots are yearling bulls.
The animal’s registration number. Any “Pending” registrations will be updated on sale day.

• Homo Black means the bull is homozygous black by DNA test (all calves should be black).
• Hetero Black means the bull is heterozygous black by DNA test (bull carries both red and black genes; calves could be red if dam also carries and passes on red gene).
• All red bulls carry two red genes and bull will pass one red gene to all calves.
The bull’s polled/horned/scurred status is displayed below the coat color row.
• (T) = By DNA Test; (P) = By Pedigree
• Homo Polled means the bull is homozygous polled by DNA test (all calves should be polled).
• Hetero Polled means the bull is heterozygous polled by DNA test (bull carries both a polled gene and a horned gene; calves could have horns if dam also carries and passes on horn gene).
Efficiency traits
Dry matter intake (DMI): Represents the average daily dry matter intake per day consumed in pounds. A negative, or lesser value, is more favorable. For example, Bull A has a DMI EPD of .15 and Bull B has a DMI EPD of -.20, so the progeny of Bull B consume, on average, .35 pound less dry matter per day than progeny from Bull A.
Indexes
Indexes are tools that allow producers to select for several EPDs at once, making selections more efficient than selecting on one trait at a time. Indexes weigh traits based on their importance to a producer’s bottom line by using a trait’s economic and genetic value. Indexes are a good way to put selection emphasis on traits that are economically relevant.
Total maternal (TM): An index that combines growth and milk information as a prediction of the weaning weight performance of calves from a sire’s daughters. As an index, this value is not reported with an accompanying accuracy. A greater TM value means a mother that returns comparatively higher weaning weights on her calves. TM Index = MK EPD + ½ WW EPD.
FPI™ which stands for feeder profit index: An economic selection index designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on a grade and yield standpoint. Well ranking sires for FPI have higher marbling and carcass weight than their contemporaries. As a terminal index, little emphasis is put on maternal traits such as stayability and calving ease.

The Reform sired cattle offer an abundance of fleshing ability, natural thickness, and depth. 4526M is one best balanced animals we have raised. He combines length of body and thickness of top with extra mass and is as sure footed as you can make one. His dam is a moderate framed female out of SAV Reign and a full ET sister to BABR 7062T. 0236K is an easy keeper that kept a tight calving interval in her first year of production. The S A V Reign cattle are some of our favorite up and coming females in production. 4526M’s pedigree is loaded with highly productive females that find their way to the top of the replacement pen annually. GE EPDs • These will be the first progeny of BABR Big Energy 0401K ET to sell and we like what he is adding to our herd. 4520M is long bodied, deep sided and barrow middled. He is built to cover large pastures with a stout skeletal structure and big foot. This bull has been one we studied closely throughout the year and he has not disappointed us yet. His dam and grand dam are females we selected from Jim’s Dispersal. The 3147A female offers added cow power with her 10 calves offering an average WW of 730 lbs. 2101J is following in her footsteps raising front pasture kind and maintaining a solid calving interval.

The rest of the sire group is in the replacement heifer pen and they are the type of females a producer would like to fill an entire pen with. 450M is another performance driven Jesse James sired bull that offers the same length of body and scrotal development as his half-brother. His dam is sired by BABR Unforgiven 7326E, and his daughters are beautiful in production. 450M has been one we watched all summer and has done well since weaning. He combines added growth and power without sacrificing cow power in his pedigree.
Lot 15 • 401M ET is a larger framed, performance added herd bull prospect with a pedigree that has worked seamlessly in production over the years. We have been searching the semen tanks and utilizing embryos that we saved to add females back into production years later. 401M is sired by EXAR Pay Stub, which was the first Angus bull we purchased to utilize in our registered Balancer program, and his progeny have made their mark over the years. His dam 5033R is a dam of merit has 30 recorded progeny.
