‘Nur’ is an Arabic word for Light or the Divine Light.
The word Nur or its variants appears forty-nine times in the Quran. Surah 24 of the Quran named An-Nur (the Light) contains the Verse of Light which reads :
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. His Light (in the universe) may be likened to a niche wherein is a lamp, and the lamp is in the crystal which shines in star-like brilliance...” (24:35).
In Putrajaya, iconic landmarks such as Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Kompleks Islam Putrajaya architectural designs were inspired by Surah An-Nur, which is the source of light that illuminates the hearts of believers.
This book bears the title Nur as a tribute to the Surah and its connotation of giving light or illumination, as Putrajaya places great importance on the use of lights in its area.
