Well now, what an exciting and terrifying month June turned out to be! That was quite an experience, and I’m sure totally new for many of you guys, who are probably too young to remember the Iraq war of 2004. Thank God this was a quick one, a swift one, and as I write this intro, the ceasefire seems to be holding, which is great, since I know that most of us have travel plans in July and August, and nobody wants to deal with any more canceled flights, especially when its around a million degrees out there in the sun!
Still, there’s something about times like these that bring our community into focus. We’re reminded of what matters most—our health, our resilience, and the people who inspire us to keep going. That’s why this month’s issue opens with three incredible interviews that cover body, breath, and raw horsepower.
First up is Nawal Nazar, a Clinical Dietitian and eating disorder specialist who is challenging the toxic diet culture in Kuwait, one compassionate conversation at a time. Her personal journey—from battling cancer and disordered eating to building a practice rooted in empathy—is as brave as it is necessary. She’s helping people heal their relationship with food and themselves, and we are here for it.
Then we take a deep dive (and breath) with Dr. Abeer Al Ali, a pediatric ENT surgeon whose work is literally life-changing. From airway reconstruction surgeries on newborns to helping hearing-impaired children experience sound for the first time, her story is filled with moments of quiet heroism, emotional strength, and medical excellence. She also has a wicked sense of humor and a killer work ethic that will leave you in awe.
And speaking of adrenaline—meet Ghaleb and Yousef, the founders of @street965, Kuwait’s ultimate car culture content creators. What started as a shared passion between two ex-basketballers is now a full-blown automotive empire that’s putting Kuwaiti talent on the global map. These guys are not just filming cars; they’re building a community, telling stories, and dreaming of Formula 1 drivers from Kuwait. Trust us—you’ll want to go along for the ride.
There’s plenty more in this issue too—from practical wellness tips to creative resets and reflections on what it really means to “start over,” no matter what decade of life you’re in. Whether you’re staying put this summer, or catching flights to cooler places, we hope these stories offer you a little perspective, a bit of inspiration, and maybe a few good laughs too.
Happy reading!

HOW TO CREATE A “SATURDAY RESET” ROUTINE
Small Rituals to Help You Recharge, Refocus, and Breathe
By bazaar staff
The weekend is meant for rest, but how often do we actually feel refreshed by Sunday night? With chores, errands, and social commitments, Saturdays can blur into a stressful sprint instead of the reset they’re meant to be. Enter the “Saturday Reset”—a gentle routine that helps you recharge mentally, emotionally, and physically.
You don’t need to overhaul your whole life. These simple rituals can help you create space, set intentions, and feel more grounded for the week ahead.
1. Start Slow Give yourself permission to begin the day without pressure. Skip the alarms if you can. Linger over coffee. Read a few pages of a book. How you begin your Saturday sets the tone.
2. Do a Quick Declutter Tidy space, tidy mind. Pick one area—your bedroom, your desktop, your kitchen—and give it a five-to-ten-minute refresh. Light a candle or open a window while you do it. You’ll feel lighter almost instantly.
3. Get Outside Whether it’s a walk around the block, a beach visit, or a coffee run, being in nature or fresh
air helps reset your nervous system. Leave your phone behind if you can.
4. Move Mindfully Skip the intense workout and opt for movement that feels restorative. Think yoga, stretching, dancing, or even light gardening. It’s not about burning calories—it’s about reconnecting to your body.
5. Plan Without Pressure Take 15 minutes to look ahead. What’s coming up next week? What’s one thing you’re looking forward to? What can you delegate or postpone? The goal is to feel prepared, not overwhelmed.
6. Make a Nourishing Meal Cook something slow and satisfying. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just something you enjoy. Bonus if it’s shared with family
or friends, but even a solo lunch can be an act of love.
7. Log Off Even if it’s just for an hour or two, unplugging helps you reset your focus. Turn off notifications, put your phone in a drawer, and be present. Silence is healing.
8. Check In With Yourself Journal, meditate, or simply sit quietly. Ask: how am I really doing? What do I need more—or less—of? A reset is as much about inner clarity as it is about outer order. Your “Saturday Reset” doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. The magic is in creating space for yourself to rest, reflect, and reset—so that come Monday, you’re not running on empty.

HORSEPOWER AND HUSTLE
How Ghaleb and Yousef Built Kuwait’s Hottest Automotive Content Empire
By bazaar Staff
Ever wondered what happens when two professional basketball players trade their sneakers for steering wheels? Meet Ghaleb and Yousef, the dynamic duo behind @street965—the Instagram powerhouse that’s been setting Kuwait’s automotive scene on fire since 2012.
Picture this: two guys grinding it out on basketball courts for over 15 years, united not just by their love for the game, but by an almost obsessive passion for cars, adrenaline, and pushing every possible limit. From the moment they met, there was this electric energy between them—the kind that people just felt when they walked into a room.
“It was raw, real, and had its own personality,” they explain. And honestly? That’s exactly what comes through in every single piece of content they create.
One day, they looked at each other and thought, “Why not bring this same fire to the automotive world?” And just like that, Street965 was born— not as a calculated business move, but as a natural evolution of their shared obsession.
The name “Street965” isn’t just catchy—it’s a full-blown declaration of love for Kuwait. That 965? It’s Kuwait’s country code, and these guys wear it like a badge of honor. “It’s about representing our streets, our car culture, and our people to the world,” they say, and they’re not kidding around.
They’ve literally taken Kuwait with them to over 10 countries, carrying the flag everywhere they go—not just the physical one, but through their passion, their production quality, and that unmistakable Kuwaiti pride that oozes from every frame.
Cast your mind back to 2012. The GCC car scene was wild—think loud engines, crazy builds, and absolutely no structure. It was pure chaos, and honestly? It was kind of beautiful in its own way.
Fast forward to today, and wow, what a transformation. The community has leveled up in every possible way. People are more educated about cars, they’re prioritizing safety, and the builds? They’re absolutely next level. But here’s the beautiful part—they’ve managed to keep that signature GCC flair that makes this scene so special.
“It’s evolving fast, and honestly? It’s beautiful to witness,” the duo reflects, and you can hear the genuine emotion in their voices.
Here’s where Street965 gets really special. Their audience isn’t just followers—they’re family. And we’re not talking about some cheesy marketing speak here. These guys have hosted four massive events in Kuwait, and every single time, the turnout has been absolutely mind-blowing.
What makes the GCC automotive community so unique? It’s the unity, the shared lifestyle. Whether someone’s rolling up in a hypercar or showing off a build-from-scratch project, the respect is mutual. Everyone’s building this scene together, and Street965 has become the beating heart of it all.
After more than a decade in the game, Ghaleb and Yousef have learned that content creation is basically a sport in itself. You’ve got to train, evolve, and constantly adapt. Trends come and go faster than a McLaren on Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Causeway—blink and you’ll miss them.
“What’s changed most is the speed,” they explain. “So we learned to anticipate, not just react.” And boy, does it show in their content.
Street965 isn’t just about posting random
car videos. They’ve created three distinct shows, each with its own personality. 7ara Yasar keeps it raw and real—no filters, no fake stuff, just pure automotive passion. W7osh Al Sayarat is for the true car nerds who want to dive deep into power, precision, and performance. Bi Tafseel is their masterpiece—the deep dive that goes beyond the surface to explore every detail. Each show was born from one simple question: “How can we give our audience something they’ve never seen before?”
When asked about their proudest moments, both guys light up. Ghaleb can’t stop raving about every episode of W7osh Al Sayarat, but the Ford Bronco Raptor reel holds a special place in his heart. “We literally spent an entire weekend pushing that beast to its limits. It was raw, exhausting—and worth every second.”
Yousef gets sentimental about the videos with hidden messages—their way of staying connected with their community. But when it comes to cars? The Audi RS3 stole his heart as the ultimate “pocket rocket,” though he’s quick to add that his Nissan GTR still reigns supreme.
Their creative process is their “secret recipe,” but they’re generous enough to give us a taste. What looks like a simple 30-second reel actually represents two months of intense planning. Every hook, every shot, every single word is intentional and strategic.
“Nothing is random,” they emphasize. “We’ve built a formula, and we keep fine-tuning it like a high-performance engine.”
Street965 isn’t just about Instagram fame. They’ve expanded into TVCs, full event management, and comprehensive brand campaigns. Their approach is simple: no two clients are the same, so no two campaigns should be either.
“We don’t just know how to shoot, we know how to sell,” they explain, drawing from their seven years in marketing and e-commerce. “While others post, we plan.”
Two collaborations stand out as defining moments. The Ooredoo Cars Meetup 2021 was their first major post-COVID event—their logo literally lighting up Kuwait’s skyline from one of the biggest rooftops in the city. The energy was absolutely unreal. The other one was the Toyota Yaris GR 2024 campaign showed their full range— from PR to hosting to complete media coverage. It wasn’t just a campaign; it was a cultural movement.
These guys have big dreams, and honestly? They have every right to dream big. They believe the GCC, especially Kuwait, is home to the world’s most passionate car community. And their ultimate vision?
A Formula 1 driver from Kuwait. Cars manufactured in Kuwait. Becoming the region’s leading voice in automotive culture.
“It won’t be easy,” they admit. “But we’re not here for easy, we’re here for legacy.”
So what can we expect from Street965 in 2025 and beyond? Think bigger. Think louder. They’re planning huge collaborations, bringing international guests to 7ara Yasar, creating wild content from around the world, and organizing some of the craziest races the region has ever seen.
They’re going global, but they’ll always keep it Street965—and honestly? That’s exactly how we want it.
From basketball courts to automotive stardom, Ghaleb and Yousef have built something truly special. They’ve taken their love for cars and turned it into a cultural phenomenon that represents the best of Kuwait’s automotive scene. And the best part? This is just the beginning.

YOU DON’T NEED TO BE BUSY TO BE IMPORTANT
How to Redefine Success on Your Own Terms
By bazaar staff
Somewhere along the way, “busy” became a badge of honor. Our calendars filled up, our phones never stopped buzzing, and our days blurred into an exhausting loop of doing more to feel like we matter. But what if being important had nothing to do with being busy?
In a culture that glorifies hustle, slowing down can feel rebellious. But it’s also one of the most powerful choices you can make. Here’s how to reclaim your time, your value, and your peace— without the nonstop grind.
1. Question the Cult of Busy Busy doesn’t always mean productive. And productive doesn’t always mean purposeful. Ask yourself: am I filling my time, or fulfilling my purpose? There’s a big difference.
2. Value Stillness Moments of rest are not wasted time—they’re essential for clarity, creativity, and wellbeing. Some of your best ideas and insights come when you’re not actively chasing them.
3. Stop Performing Productivity You don’t owe anyone a detailed rundown of your schedule. You don’t need to prove your worth by being exhausted.
Let go of the need to be visibly busy to feel validated.
4. Redefine What Success Looks Like Success might be picking up your kids on time, having a peaceful morning, or finally starting that passion project. It doesn’t have to be tied to income, job titles, or followers.
5. Set Boundaries Like a Pro Protect your time. That means saying no, logging off, and not feeling guilty about it. The people who respect you will respect your limits.
6. Prioritize Depth Over Speed Rushing through everything leaves little room for meaning. Instead of doing more, focus on doing what matters— with intention. Whether it’s a project, a meal, or a conversation, be all in.
7. Embrace JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) You don’t need to be everywhere, doing everything, all the time. Miss the event. Skip the scroll. Stay home. There’s joy in choosing your own pace.
8. Know That You Are Enough Your worth isn’t tied to how much you do. You are not a machine. You are a person—with value, creativity, and purpose— just by being.
Being busy might get applause, but being present brings peace. It’s okay to slow down. It’s okay to do less. And it’s more than okay to matter, even when you’re not moving a mile a minute. Reclaim your time. Reclaim your value. And remember: you don’t need to be busy to be important.

Nawal Nazar’s Journey to Redefining Nutrition and Body Image
By bazaar Staff
It’s almost impossible to exist in today’s world without being part of the discourse around food, body-shaming, diet culture, or healthy eating. The internet is awash in advice that is based on pseudo-science or is completely unsubstantiated, and is often conflicting and confusing. Nawal Nazar is an exception, using compassion and evidence-based practices to help her clients. As a Clinical Dietitian specializing in eating disorders, Nawal’s story is one of resilience, cultural insight, and a relentless drive to change how we view food, health, and our bodies.
Nawal Nazar’s passion for nutrition began in the heart of her family kitchen in Kuwait, where she spent countless hours baking with her mother for her late grandmother. But her journey was far from easy. As a teenager, Nawal battled an eating disorder and, at just 15, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. These challenges, rather than breaking her spirit, ignited a fierce desire to help others facing similar struggles.
Determined to step outside her comfort zone, Nawal pursued an undergraduate degree in Dietetics and Nutrition at San Francisco State University, followed by a graduate degree in Nutritional Science at San Jose State University. Her time abroad was transformative, both personally and professionally. She volunteered and worked in various nutrition settings—from supporting college athletes at Stanford to working with in-patients at Sutter Health and at a residential eating disorder center.
Nawal is not only a Clinical Dietitian but is also working towards becoming a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), as well as earning the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential from the American Nutrition Association. Her expertise is rooted in both academic rigor and lived experience, making her uniquely qualified to support clients struggling with eating disorders and chronic health conditions.
Nawal’s focus on eating disorders is deeply personal. Growing up in Kuwait, she experienced binge eating disorder, exacerbated by family members’ comments and societal pressures to conform to certain body ideals. She recalls the pain of shopping for Eid and feeling devastated by the lack of clothing options, despite being under 100 kilograms. Attempts to seek help from local dietitians were often met with rigid meal plans and a fixation on BMI, rather than an exploration of the underlying causes of her eating habits.
This experience highlighted a critical gap in care: the need for empathy, individualized support, and a rejection of one-size-fits-all solutions. Nawal’s mission is to be the helping hand she once needed, fostering meaningful change by creating safe, non-judgmental spaces for healing.
Confusion often surrounds the roles of dietitians, nutritionists, and health coaches. Nawal clarifies that dietitians complete rigorous academic training and provide medical nutrition therapy, focusing on the relationship between nutrition, health, and disease. Nutritionists, by contrast, offer general advice, while health coaches focus on overall well-being. Importantly, dietitians treat and manage health conditions through nutrition but do not diagnose medical issues.
Nawal has worked with a range of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, Avoidant/ Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and other unspecified feeding and eating disorders. She emphasizes that each disorder presents unique challenges and requires tailored nutritional support. The goal is always to help clients eat with balance and ease, attuned to their hunger and fullness cues, free from shame and guilt.
A poignant memory from her time at Cielo House, an eating disorder rehab, underscores the gravity of her work. She recalls an elderly client who, after years of battling anorexia, finally found healing—only to pass away shortly after discharge. This loss cemented Nawal’s commitment to being a force for change in the field.
Nawal’s approach to nutrition counseling is rooted in body autonomy and choice. She recognizes that eating disorders are complex coping mechanisms, shaped by genetics, environment, and personal history. There is no universal treatment plan; instead, recovery is a phased journey involving the gradual adoption of healthier behaviors and beliefs. She stresses that recovery is not linear and can take years, depending on the individual’s circumstances.
One of the biggest misconceptions about eating disorders is that they only affect teenage girls. In reality, people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds can struggle with disordered eating. There is also a tendency to equate eating disorders solely with anorexia or visible thinness, overlooking the many forms these conditions can take.
Warning signs of disordered eating are not always obvious. Nawal points to behaviors such as rigid dieting, unnecessary food restrictions, use of weight loss pills, excessive exercise, and an obsession with “clean eating” as potential red flags. Emotional responses to food—such as shame, guilt, or fear—are also indicators that someone may need support.
Nawal’s master’s research explored the influence of social media on body image among Middle Eastern women, revealing that family and peer pressures often amplify the impact of online body ideals. She advises clients to factcheck information, limit time online, and focus
on nourishing their bodies rather than comparing themselves to edited images. Practicing portion control and mindful eating, while appreciating the body’s functionality, are key strategies she recommends.
While intuitive eating is a powerful tool for some, Nawal notes it may not be suitable for everyone—particularly those with leptin resistance or binge-eating disorder1. For her clients, she prioritizes building trust through a safe, judgmentfree environment, fostering acceptance, and helping them develop new coping strategies that align with their unique needs.
In Kuwait, as in many cultures, weight stigma is pervasive. Comments from family, friends, and even healthcare professionals can be deeply triggering. Nawal is adamant that no one under 18 should ever be put on a diet, as their bodies are still growing. She calls for a cultural shift towards supporting healthy behaviors rather than policing weight.
Nawal acknowledges that there is nothing wrong with wanting to improve one’s nutrition or exercise habits. However, she warns against rigid meal plans and the conflation of thinness with health. Research shows that disordered eating behaviors harm mental health and body satisfaction, and that most people regain lost weight over time.
Instead, she advocates for balanced, nutrientdense diets, appropriate portions, and a focus on well-being and self-care.
For parents and caregivers, Nawal emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Avoid commenting on food, eating behaviors, or body size, and be mindful of language that could trigger a relapse. If a loved one does relapse, seeking professional help is crucial.
Today, Nawal practices what she preaches: embracing body diversity and rejecting narrow definitions of health. She reminds us that health comes in all shapes and sizes, and that outward appearance is never a reliable indicator of someone’s well-being.
Nawal is currently expanding her research, pursuing additional certifications, and planning to open a residential or outpatient eating disorder facility in the coming years. Her vision is to build a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting recovery and changing the narrative around food and body image in her community.
Nawal Nazar’s journey reminds us that healing is possible, and that true health is about much more than numbers on a scale. Her story is a call to embrace compassion, challenge harmful norms, and celebrate the diversity of our bodies and experiences.

I wouldn’t want to; I love my name. I was named after my aunt, Nawal Al Shatti –who I’ve been told that I resemble.
How would you describe your handshake, in one word? Firm, yet soft.
What is the toughest part of your character?
I fire back quick – which has put in sticky situations in the past. However, I’ve learnt to keep some things to myself, or word them differently.
Who is your favorite historical figure?
Amy Winehouse, of course. She broke many barriers, whether it be her fashion sense, musical style, or societal expectations - she followed her passions.
What in the world do you least desire?
Selfishness. Don’t get me wrong, you are supposed to put the oxygen mask on yourself first before others. However, it is disheartening seeing people disregard
others and have the mentality of “I’ve gone through that, so other must,” –instead for advocating better outcomes for others.
What do you think is lacking in the world, which [if there were more of it] would make the world a better place?
Lack of empathy. Many individuals put themselves on a pedestal, and disregard lower-income communities, or expats, especially in Kuwait. We should look out for them, because no one chooses their nationality, race or even their family name.
Why do you think most people who do, like you?
My love language is acts of service, and I love hosting my loved ones. I love making them feel like they are at the top of the world.
Finish this sentence: “Happiness is…” Within yourself. Don’t ever seek it within others.

The rhythm of modern life is defined by the constant movement and flow of people. For the German luggage manufacturer RIMOWA and the Swiss design furniture company Vitra, mobility and multi-functionality are a daily source of inspiration, and this collaboration provides pieces that seamlessly integrate into a diverse array of environments.
Aluminium plays a central role in this partnership. RIMOWA and Vitra are united by decades of expertise in processing this durable, timeless material, with notable examples including the Eames Aluminium Chair and RIMOWA’s Original and Classic suitcase collections. Both brands share a commitment to using design, engineering and craftsmanship to create functional and durable high-quality pieces.
“This collaboration combines our expertise in the design of living and working spaces with RIMOWA’s know-how in the field of mobile functionality,” says Nora Fehlbaum, CEO Vitra.
“Vitra and RIMOWA are two iconic brands known for their material expertise and distinctive
design,” notes RIMOWA CEO Hugues BonnetMasimbert. “Sharing a passion for durability and craftsmanship, this collaboration perfectly embodies the essence of ‘design’ – where innovation and aesthetics come together.”
The Aluminium Stool is a jointly developed new product: a mobile cube made from RIMOWA’s iconic grooved aluminium and equipped with the German Maison’s Multiwheel system. When opened, this seating object reveals an interior upholstered with Vitra fabric offering storage space for assorted essentials. A removable leather divider ensures optimal organisation, while the lid’s detachable seat cushion adds comfort.
The Aluminium Toolbox is inspired by the Vitra Toolbox designed by Arik Levy in 2010. Made of recycled plastic in the standard version, it is now reimagined with RIMOWA’s signature anodized aluminium casing. In keeping with its history of sustainability, the interior compartments are also lined with recycled fabric.
Both products are jointly manufactured at RIMOWA and Vitra’s respective factories.
RIMOWA’s aluminium components are produced at their historic headquarters in Cologne, and Vitra’s upholstered textile elements are made on the Vitra Campus inWeil am Rhein. The Aluminium Stool, released as a limited edition of 1000 pieces, will be available in Silver & Ice Blue, Silver & Papyrus and Silver & Emerald. The Aluminium Toolbox comes in the same choice of colours as a limited edition of 100 pieces, available exclusively in Europe via RIMOWA.com and worldwide from Vitra.
The two products can be purchased online at vitra. com and RIMOWA.com starting at 6:15pm CET on June 18th. As of June 19th, the Aluminium Stool will also be available at select RIMOWA flagship stores worldwide.
The RIMOWA Vitra 2025 collection will also feature RIMOWA’s legendary sticker sets, with motifs interpreting both brands’ signature design elements.
The limited-edition sticker sets will be available at vitra.com and RIMOWA.com, as well as at select RIMOWA stores.
WHY YOUR 40S (OR 30S, OR 20S) ARE THE BEST TIME TO START OVER
Every Decade Has Its Magic—Here’s How to Use It
By bazaar staff
There’s a myth that you need to have everything figured out by a certain age. Career, relationships, finances, identity—it’s all supposed to be locked in by 25, 30, or 40. But in real life, growth doesn’t follow a timeline—and reinvention is always possible.
In fact, starting over isn’t a sign of failure. It’s a sign that you’re listening to your life. Here’s why each decade brings its own kind of freedom, and how to make the most of it.
In Your 20s: Curiosity Over Certainty Your 20s are for exploration, not perfection. You’re learning what you like, who you are, and where you want to go. Trying different jobs, cities, relationships—it’s all part of collecting data for your future self.
In Your 30s: Confidence Through Clarity By now, you’ve likely figured out what you don’t want. That clarity gives you power. You can pivot careers, deepen relationships, and start prioritizing yourself in ways that once felt selfish but are actually essential.
In Your 40s: Permission to Be Fully You With experience comes wisdom—and a sense of self that’s harder to shake. Starting over in your 40s often means doing what you actually want, not what others expect. Whether it’s going back to school, launching a business, or ending what no longer serves you—this is your time.
Reinvention Isn’t Radical It doesn’t always mean quitting your job or moving across the globe. Sometimes it’s changing your mindset, habits, or priorities. Small shifts can lead to major transformations over time.
Comparison is the Real Thief Social media makes it seem like everyone else has it figured out. They don’t. Every timeline is different—and comparing
your chapter two to someone else’s chapter twenty will only hold you back.
Give Yourself Grace It takes courage to begin again. And it’s okay to feel scared or uncertain. But don’t let that stop you from stepping into what could be an incredible next chapter. Wherever you are in life, it’s never too late—or too early—to start over. Reinvention isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about returning to who you’ve always been.

Discover, Personalize, and Shop Effortlessly - All with the New IKEA App
By bazaar Staff
Every trip to an IKEA store is an experience; full of fun discovery and solutions that make our lives easier. And as much we love perusing the aisles, finding hidden gems under KWD 5 and grabbing an ice cream on our way out, sometimes we just don’t have the time to make the trip or we just want to sit down and carefully make selections, this is when an app comes in very handy.
Luckily for us, IKEA just announced the launch of the new IKEA app in Kuwait, marking a significant milestone in creating a seamless shopping experience whenever and wherever you want; with the message: ‘Welcome to your own IKEA’.
The new IKEA app empowers users to explore, shop, and be inspired by the wide IKEA offer of home furnishing solutions from their phone. This app redefines the IKEA shopping experience, blending the convenience and ease of digital with the inspiration of the physical stores.
“At IKEA, we are committed to lead the way in retail innovation by creating meaningful, technology-driven experiences for our customers. The launch of the new IKEA app is a strategic move forward in our journey to make shopping easier, more personalized, more convenient, and more inspiring than ever before. With easy navigation, personalized recommendations, and real-time availability, the app brings IKEA closer to every home in Kuwait,” said Marino Maganto, CEO of IKEA Kuwait, Jordan and Morocco.
The new IKEA app offers an amazing experience, featuring detailed product pages with descriptions, prices, color variations, energy-saving and
sustainable product highlights, stock availability, measurements, and even assembly instructions. Moreover, once a user becomes a member, the app syncs across all devices, enabling access through a single username and password.
Customers can compare items, share products and inspiration with family and friends, and save products for later, all with a smooth checkout process optimized for mobile. Favorites also sync across devices, ensuring continuity between web and app experiences.
“The new IKEA app is the most intuitive digital experience yet; designed to help you search, compare, and shop with ease using your preferred language. It brings the entire IKEA world to your fingertips, making your shopping journey simple, personal and enjoyable. It is the biggest IKEA store you’ll never get lost in,’’ continued Maganto.
To protect customer data, the app is built with the latest privacy and security technologies, ensuring that personal information is always safe and handled with care and transparency.
Additionally, the app allows IKEA Kuwait to share timely updates with customers, keeping them informed about the latest offers and promotions.
“The new app allows us to connect with you in a more direct and meaningful way. With personalized notifications, we can proactively share relevant updates and offers, enhancing your shopping experience and strengthening our relationship with each and every one of you,” explained Maganto.
The new IKEA app will soon feature new enhancements including special discounts to IKEA Family members, 3D design experience, goods tracking capabilities, online order history and more omnichannel features connecting both the physical and digital experiences.
“The new IKEA app will continue developing, securing new features and delivering a more personalized, seamless experience that connects our customers across all our channels, from inspiration to purchase and beyond,” concluded Marino Maganto.
We’re still going to visit the store, because we love to, but now IKEA is much closer and easier to shop and we can’t wait to keep making our homes our very own sanctuaries.

URBAN ELEGANCE IN THE HEART OF THE GULF
Four Seasons Kuwait as a Portal to a Reimagined Kuwait City
By bazaar Staff
Tucked between the shimmering towers of Kuwait City, the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya rises like a modern mirage. Its lattice-patterned golden façade echoes traditional mashrabiya design while confidently asserting itself in the Gulf’s architectural landscape. More than a hotel, it has become a symbol of a country quietly redefining itself.
In a region often associated with hypermodern spectacles, Kuwait offers a subtler and deeper appeal. It is a destination rooted in cultural authenticity, architectural sophistication, and a surprising sense of serenity. This narrative finds its most compelling expression in the design and guest experience at Four Seasons Kuwait.
A Dialogue Between Past and Present Designed by Gensler in collaboration with Yabu Pushelberg, the property blends contemporary geometry with Middle Eastern motifs. Inside, the ambiance shifts into a curated world of moody textures, soft desert hues, and soaring volumes. It is a tribute to the region’s architectural heritage, reinterpreted for the modern traveler.
The lobby, with its arabesque lanterns and reflective pools, welcomes guests into an atmosphere that feels more like a sanctuary than a hotel. Meanwhile, rooms and suites offer panoramic skyline views, softened by organic materials, subtle patterns, and curated artworks that reflect the Kuwaiti spirit of quiet luxury.
Where Wellness Meets Excellence Beneath the hotel lies one of the region’s most exquisite indoor spas, a Forbes Five-Star accredited sanctuary. Suspended lanterns shimmer above a Moorish-inspired pool, offering guests a moment of stillness in the heart of the city. The spa experience is elevated with a traditional Moroccan hammam, bespoke treatments, and a poolside wellness menu, all designed to cocoon the senses in calm and comfort.
It is a setting where design and wellbeing are seamlessly integrated, earning the hotel dual recognition in the Forbes Travel Guide as both a five-star hotel and a five-star spa, a rare distinction in the region.
At the Forefront of Sustainable Luxury Four Seasons Kuwait is not only redefining elegance, it is leading the region in sustainable luxury hospitality. The property holds a LEED Platinum certification, the highest distinction awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, and remains the only hotel in Kuwait to achieve this prestigious status.
This accolade is supported by the Green Key eco-label, granted locally by the Kuwait Water Association, and the Forbes Responsible Hospitality badge, which recognizes measurable progress in sustainability practices.
From intelligent energy systems and water conservation to eliminating single-use plastics and selecting sustainable materials, every detail reflects a vision of hospitality that honors the environment without compromising luxury.
“Sustainability is at the heart of how we operate,” says General Manager Martin Kipping. “From LEED Platinum certification to eliminating single-use plastics, every decision is guided by a long-term vision to offer luxury that respects both people and the planet.”
A Cultural Gateway
Beyond its interiors, the hotel serves as a cultural portal. From Sintoho’s sky-high Asian dining to Dai Forni’s Italian terrace perched over the city, the hotel offers more than views; it offers perspective. Guests are encouraged to explore Kuwait’s creative scene, from the Tareq Rajab Museum’s private collections to the Sadu House, where Bedouin weaving traditions are preserved.
Even within the hotel, art and architecture form a continuous narrative that honors the heritage of the region while embracing the language of global design.
“We see the hotel as more than a place to stay, it’s a cultural and architectural ambassador for Kuwait,” says Kapriel Kalenderian, Director of PR & Communications. “Through design, cuisine, and storytelling, we invite our guests to experience the country’s contemporary spirit in the most authentic way.”
A Base for the Discerning Traveler
For the regional elite, particularly from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, Four Seasons Kuwait has become a preferred urban escape. It offers a cosmopolitan retreat where business meetings transition into rooftop dinners, and wellness rituals complement high-end retail and cultural discoveries.
With its blend of understated luxury, celebrated design, and conscious hospitality, the hotel continues to set a new standard for Gulf travel—one that values depth, character, and meaning over spectacle.
“In a city of contrasts, Four Seasons Kuwait doesn’t shout, it whispers. And in that whisper, it tells the story of a new Kuwait.”

YOUR BODY IS NOT A TREND
Rethinking Fitness and Food in a World Obsessed with Aesthetics
By bazaar staff
We live in a time where body ideals change as quickly as fashion cycles. One year it’s abs, the next it’s curves, and somewhere in between, we’re left wondering what healthy even means anymore. But here’s the truth: your body is not a trend, and taking care of it isn’t about chasing someone else’s ideal.
If you’re tired of yo-yo workouts, shame-fueled diets, and toxic comparisons, this article is for you. Let’s look at a better way to approach fitness and food—one that centers your wellbeing, not a fleeting aesthetic.
1. Redefine Your Why
Instead of aiming to look a certain way, focus on how you want to feel. More energy, better sleep, less stress? Those are sustainable goals that bring lasting change.
2. Ditch the “All or Nothing” Mentality
You don’t need to go vegan, join CrossFit, or run marathons to be healthy. Find what works for you and let go of perfectionism. Progress happens in the in-between.
3. Unfollow, Then Refill Your Feed
Social media can be a toxic space when it comes
to body image. Unfollow anyone who makes you feel “less than,” and instead follow creators who promote diverse bodies and realistic health journeys.
4. Nourish, Don’t Punish
Food is not the enemy. Neither is hunger. Learn to nourish your body with balance—yes, that includes carbs, fats, and yes, the occasional dessert. Restriction leads to obsession, not health.
5. Movement Should Feel Good
Exercise isn’t a punishment for what you ate. It’s a celebration of what your body can do. Whether it’s dancing, swimming, or walking the dog—joy counts as cardio.
6. Get to Know Your Body
Hormones, genetics, sleep, stress—they all affect your body’s shape, appetite, and energy. Understanding these factors helps you work with
your body, not against it.
7. Rest is Productive Too
Burnout doesn’t build strength. Recovery days, mental health breaks, and adequate sleep are essential parts of any wellness plan.
8. Define Beauty on Your Terms
The most powerful thing you can do is decide what beautiful means to you. When you own that definition, trends can come and go without shaking your self-worth.
At the end of the day, your body is your home. Not a display. Not a project. Not a before-and-after photo. Just yours. So care for it like you would anything you love—with patience, kindness, and a refusal to let anyone else decide what it should look like.

THE 5-YEAR PLAN THAT ACTUALLY WORKS
How to Map Out a Future You’ll Actually Stick To
By bazaar staff
There’s something about the phrase “five-year plan” that can feel both empowering and intimidating. For some, it’s a roadmap to success. For others, it’s a source of anxiety that seems too rigid or idealistic. But what if we told you the secret to a successful five-year plan isn’t perfection—it’s flexibility?
Whether you’re launching your career, pivoting to something new, or just craving direction, a fiveyear plan isn’t about mapping every step to the minute. It’s about creating a structure that evolves with you. Here’s how to design one that works for real life.
1. Define What “Success” Means to You
Start with your own version of success. Is it launching a business? Buying a home? Traveling more? Having more peace and less pressure? Write down what your ideal life looks like in five years. Don’t filter it through social media expectations—this is for you.
2. Break It Down into Categories
Life isn’t one-track. Organize your plan into personal, professional, financial, and wellness goals. This helps balance your growth and avoid burnout. You might want to save a certain amount of money, run a half marathon, or earn a certification. Each piece matters.
3. Use the “Backwards” Method
Once you know where you want to be, work backwards. If your goal is to become a creative director, what needs to happen in year four? Year three? Reverse-engineering your goals makes them more manageable and realistic.
4. Keep It Flexible, Not Fragile
Life will throw curveballs. That doesn’t mean your plan failed—it means it’s alive. Revisit your plan every six months. Adjust timelines, swap goals, or even rewrite the whole thing. A good plan bends with you.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
A five-year plan can feel far away, so set short-term milestones. Celebrate the progress, no matter how small. These wins keep you motivated and remind you that you’re on the right path.
6. Write It Down (Yes, on Paper)
There’s power in writing things down. It creates accountability and gives your plan weight. Keep it
somewhere you can review and update, like a journal, planner, or digital note.
7. Share Selectively
You don’t have to broadcast your goals. But telling a trusted friend or mentor can help with encouragement and perspective. Choose people who believe in your growth.
8. Don’t Panic If It Changes
You might discover new passions or leave behind old ones. That’s growth, not failure. The best five-year plans are dynamic and give you permission to evolve. In the end, a five-year plan is less about sticking to a script and more about living with intention. You don’t need to have all the answers—you just need a starting point. So go ahead, grab a notebook, and begin shaping a future that reflects who you truly are.

BREATHING ROOM
Inside the World of Pediatric ENT with Dr. Abeer Al Ali
By bazaar staff.
When Dr. Abeer walks into a room, it’s with quiet confidence and a smile that puts even the most anxious parent at ease. A leading ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeon specializing in pediatric cases, airway surgeries, and congenital ear malformations, Dr. Abeer’s work is delicate, complex, and profoundly life-changing.
But ask her why she chose medicine, and she won’t give you the standard “I wanted to help people” answer.“Honestly, I chose medicine because I thought it was a prestigious field, and I wanted to do something big with my life. I saw it as a smart choice,” she says with a laugh. “But once I started my hospital rotations, I felt the greater purpose of it. I truly fell in love with the work.”
Her journey into ENT was equally unexpected. As a new mom at the time, she knew she wanted to do surgery—but not the “all-hours craziness” of general surgery. A friend suggested ENT. “It’s a surgical specialty but not that crazy,” they said. “So I gave it a shot… and funny enough, it is a bit crazy. But I loved it!” Over time, Dr. Abeer found herself drawn to pediatric ENT, not just for the challenge, but for the opportunity to serve
a gap in Kuwait’s medical system. “There were very few doctors doing pediatric ENT. I thought, this is how I can really help my country.” And help, she does. From performing life-saving airway surgeries on newborns to treating congenital ear malformations her days are filled with extraordinary moments.
“There is no doubt—relieving a baby’s suffering and reassuring their parents is the most rewarding thing in the world,” she says. “Helping a baby breathe on their own again after being on a ventilator. Helping a child hear for the first time. Nothing compares.” Some stories stay with her. Not all cases are curable, but even then, Dr. Abeer makes it her mission to be a pillar of support. “I’ve had children with irreversible conditions who will live their lives with breathing or feeding tubes. I can’t fix everything. But I can
make sure the parents know they’re not alone. I guide them, reassure them, and let them know they’re getting the same level of care here in Kuwait as they would abroad.”
That deep empathy is grounded in both professional and personal experience. “I’m a mother myself. There are moments when I cry after a case—especially when it’s a child with cancer or a surgery that didn’t go well. But I try to channel that emotion into making things better for the next family. That’s advice my own mother gave me, and I carry it with me every day.”
So how does she recharge after emotionally intense days? “Good question! I’ve completely lost the balance,” she jokes. “But I try to work out when I can, and I surround myself with people I love. Sometimes I just need to pamper myself and feel like everything’s going to be okay.”
Dr. Abeer explains that pediatric ENT is not just about ear infections and tonsil removal—though those are common too. Much of her work involves the airway, from the nose down to the trachea. “Sometimes babies are born with congenital anomalies that make it difficult to breathe. Or they get very sick with infections, end up in the ICU on a ventilator, and then develop scar tissue in the airway. We do everything from simple balloon dilations to major reconstructive surgeries,” she says.
One recent case involved delivering a baby with a neck mass that obstructed the airway. She had to intubate and secure the baby’s breathing before the rest of the body was delivered. “It’s called an EXIT procedure. Very intense, but absolutely life-saving.”
Another big part of her work is cochlear implantation for children born deaf. “Helping them hear—and then watching them thrive in school, make friends, and just live their lives—is amazing.” When it comes to ear malformations, the spectrum is wide. Severe cases like microtia
require multi-step surgeries using rib cartilage, or newer prosthetic solutions. Milder deformities can often be treated non-surgically with EarWell devices—if caught early. “That’s why early diagnosis is so important. A lot of parents don’t know that we can reshape ears with simple, painless techniques if we catch it in the first three months.” Unfortunately, she adds, even mild deformities can lead to serious emotional stress. “I’ve seen children being bullied at school for having ears that ‘look funny.’ I never thought I’d see that in Kuwait, but it happens. Thankfully, we have solutions.”
So what signs should parents be on the lookout for? “Snoring and pauses in breathing during sleep could be signs of obstructive sleep apnea,” she says. “Noisy breathing or frequent choking in newborns might indicate a laryngeal issue. And delayed speech should never be dismissed—it could be a sign of hearing loss or developmental concerns.” Her golden rule? “If something doesn’t feel right, see a doctor. ‘Wait and see’ is a doctor’s call, not the parent’s. As a general
rule, if a symptom lasts more than 10 days, get it checked.” She also stresses the basics: healthy diet, good sleep, exercise, and avoiding germheavy environments (especially in winter or allergy season). Kids in daycare, for example, are more likely to pick up recurrent infections.
And above all, she encourages parents to listen to their intuition. “Trust your gut. There’s no such thing as a stupid question. If you’re worried, ask.” In a world where medical care can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, Dr. Abeer’s approach is refreshingly human. She blends surgical skill with maternal instinct, fierce determination with gentle reassurance. In her care, children breathe easier—not just physically, but emotionally too.
You can book an appointment with Dr Abeer Al Ali at Taiba Hospital which is located in Sabah Al Salem, off of route 30 on Road 3. Call them 24 hours at 180 80 88. For updates and information, visit the website taibahospital.com, and follow them on Instagram @taibahospital.
THE ART OF MAKING FRIENDS AS AN ADULT
Why It’s Hard—and How to Get Better at It
By bazaar staff
Making friends as a kid felt natural. You liked the same cartoon, sat next to each other in class, and suddenly you were best friends. As adults, the process becomes murkier—and lonelier. With busy schedules, shifting priorities, and fewer built-in social settings, forming new friendships can feel daunting.
But here’s the good news: it’s possible. Friendship isn’t just for childhood—it’s a lifelong need. Here’s how to create meaningful adult friendships without the awkwardness.
1. Accept That It Takes Effort Unlike school or university, adult life doesn’t automatically place us in social situations. Making friends as an adult takes intentionality. You have to make the first move and commit to showing up.
2. Be Open to Unexpected Connections Friends don’t have to check every box. Stay open to people outside your typical social circle or age group. A friendly neighbor, coworker, or gym buddy could become a close companion.
3. Reconnect with Old Friends Sometimes the best new connections are actually reconnections. Reach
out to someone you lost touch with. A simple “I was thinking about you” message can reignite an old friendship.
4. Join Something—Anything From book clubs and art classes to workout groups or volunteer organizations, shared activities create natural connection points. Pick something you enjoy and you’ll likely meet someone on the same wavelength.
5. Show Genuine Interest Ask questions. Listen actively. Remember names. People are drawn to those who make them feel seen and heard. Building a friendship starts with making the other person feel valued.
6. Create Rituals Friendship deepens through regular contact. Whether it’s a weekly coffee, a monthly dinner, or a voice note check-in, consistency
7. Don’t Fear Vulnerability True friendship requires honesty. Be willing to share your struggles and invite others to do the same. It’s okay to go beyond small talk—it’s where real connection happens.
8. Be Patient Great friendships don’t happen overnight. If someone doesn’t reciprocate right away, don’t take it personally. Keep showing up. Real relationships take time.
Friendship in adulthood may not be effortless, but it is incredibly rewarding. In a world that often prioritizes productivity over people, making time to connect can be a radical act of self-care.
helps build closeness over time.

The five-course journey begins with a Passion and Mint welcome drink, followed by the ingenious Cream Cheese & Honey Mousse amuse-bouche—a savory cone that awakens every taste bud with its blend of fig jam, almonds, fresh herbs, and lavender honey. The visual artistry continues with the Bonsai Harvest, featuring marinated vegetable curls and “savoury soil” that’s almost too beautiful to eat.
But the real showstopper? The Wagyu Beef & Chargrilled Seafood Skewer, where premium wagyu meets lobster, jumbo shrimp, and scallops in a symphony of flavors enhanced by rich galbi sauce. The evening concludes with the aptly named Hazel Dreamscape—a dessert so whimsical it truly melts in your mouth while leaving you questioning reality.
Available Thursday through Saturday with two seatings (18:00-20:00 and 21:00-23:00), this two-hour multisensory experience has already become the talk of Kuwait’s dining scene.

THE FIRST-EVER HYBRID LAND CRUISER
Toyota kickstarts era of the electrified off-roader
By bazaar Staff
Mohamed Naser Al Sayer & Sons Est. Co. W.L.L and Toyota just announced the launch of the new Land Cruiser HEV, the first hybrid electric model in the iconic Land Cruiser series. Setting a new benchmark for electrified off-road vehicles, the new Land Cruiser fuses seven decades of heritage with Toyota’s cutting-edge hybrid technology, delivering enhanced performance while maintaining the unmatched reliability, durability, and all-terrain capability for which the Land Cruiser is renowned.
This momentous launch, which sees the new Land Cruiser HEV debut first in Kuwait, highlights the unique and enduring relationship between the region and the Land Cruiser nameplate. Since the model’s inception in 1951, the Land Cruiser has supported the lives and livelihoods of people across the globe, becoming an indispensable tool across some of the world’s harshest environments.
The introduction of the Land Cruiser HEV marks a bold step toward Toyota’s vision for carbon neutrality under its multi-pathway approach, offering customers greater choice while ensuring that no compromises are made on capability or reliability. Building upon 28 years of leadership in hybrid technology, Toyota has applied its extensive
expertise to create an electric off-roader capable of delivering superior power, driving refinement, and environmental benefits, all while staying true to the Land Cruiser spirit.
Masaya Uchiyama, Chief Engineer in charge of development, commented: “The fully remodeled Land Cruiser, introduced in 2021, has been so well received across all regions, and we are deeply grateful for our customers’ continued support. As the global drive towards a carbon-neutral society accelerates, we recognized the importance of offering electric vehicle options for our flagship Land Cruiser. It is an honor to introduce the Land Cruiser Hybrid first to the Middle East, a region whose valuable feedback has helped shape the
Land Cruiser’s evolution. While we have made significant advancements with this HEV model, this is only the beginning of our journey as we work to create the ultimate electric off-roader, evolving it further with the insights and experiences of our loyal customers.”
The Land Cruiser HEV inherits the core DNA that has defined the series for generations — reliability, durability, and exceptional off-road performance — now enhanced through electrification. The hybrid system introduces a 20% increase in torque and a 40% improvement in accelerator response compared to conventional powertrains, resulting in a driving experience that is more powerful, more linear, and more responsive across every terrain.
Extensive development and real-world testing on global terrains, including the deserts, mudflats, and mountainous landscapes of the Middle East, ensured that the Land Cruiser HEV remains capable of taking drivers anywhere and everywhere — and bringing them back safely. Invaluable lessons learned from Toyota’s participation in off-road rallies such as the Dakar Rally were also incorporated into the development process to enhance the vehicle’s endurance and performance in extreme conditions.
As a result, the Land Cruiser HEV’s hybrid system has been designed with true off-road reliability in mind. Even in the unlikely event of hybrid unit failure, the vehicle can continue operating solely on the combustion engine, ensuring peace of mind in remote areas. The hybrid battery area has been specially waterproofed to maintain the Land Cruiser’s famed fording ability, allowing it to tackle rivers and water obstacles with confidence. Additionally, the vehicle also offers a third-row seat and cargo layout specifically optimized for the addition of the HEV system, ensuring no compromise in versatility or interior space.
The launch of the Land Cruiser HEV represents more than just the evolution of a legendary vehicle — it is a commitment to a future where Toyota continues to deliver solutions that meet customer needs without compromising its core
values. By bringing electrification to its most trusted off-roader, Toyota reaffirms its dedication to creating vehicles that inspire trust, adventure, and enduring loyalty. As Toyota looks ahead to an era of sustainable mobility, the Land Cruiser HEV stands as a proud example of innovation rooted
in tradition, offering customers across the Middle East, and the world, an even better way to explore new horizons.

LINKEDIN ISN’T JUST FOR JOB HUNTING
How to Build Your Personal Brand and Meaningful Connections
By bazaar staff
If you only update your LinkedIn profile when you’re job hunting, you’re missing out on one of the most powerful professional tools available. In 2025, LinkedIn is less of a résumé archive and more of a living, breathing platform for building your personal brand and career community.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, freelancer, manager, or just beginning your career, here’s how to use LinkedIn intentionally—and authentically.
1. Optimize Your Profile First impressions matter. Use a clear, professional photo, write a compelling headline beyond your job title, and craft a summary that tells your story. What drives you? What makes your work meaningful?
2. Post with Purpose You don’t have to post daily, but do show up. Share insights from your field, highlight recent work, or comment on trends. Thoughtful posts build credibility and attract like-minded professionals.
3. Engage, Don’t Just Broadcast Networking isn’t about shouting into the void. It’s about connection. Comment on other people’s posts, congratulate
colleagues, and join relevant conversations. Be a real person, not a bot.
4. Connect Authentically When sending connection requests, personalize them. A short message about why you want to connect can make all the difference. Think quality over quantity.
5. Use It to Learn LinkedIn is a goldmine for learning. Follow thought leaders, enroll in LinkedIn Learning courses, and keep up with industry news. Curate your feed to match your goals.
6. Highlight Soft Skills Too Don’t underestimate the power of showcasing communication, leadership, or adaptability. These skills are often what set candidates apart—and they belong on your profile too.
7. Celebrate Others Amplify your colleagues and collaborators. Sharing praise or spotlighting others’ success builds goodwill and strengthens your network.
8. Stay Consistent Your brand is built over time. You don’t need to go viral—just keep showing up with purpose, honesty, and curiosity.
In a world where who you know matters as much as what you know, LinkedIn isn’t just about getting hired. It’s about being seen, heard, and connected in your field—all year round.

STRETCH!
Simple Stretches to Wake Up Your Body
By bazaar staff
Imagine starting your day with more energy, less stiffness, and a clear mind. You don’t need an intense workout to achieve this — just a few minutes of gentle stretching can make a world of difference. Especially in Kuwait, where fast-paced lifestyles and desk jobs are common, integrating simple stretches into your morning can be a game changer.
Why Morning Stretching Matters
After hours of sleep, your muscles are relaxed and your circulation is slower. Stretching helps:
• Increase blood flow to muscles and brain.
• Improve posture and reduce aches, especially if you’re sitting most of the day.
• Enhance flexibility over time.
• Set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Stretching is also a form of self-care. Those few quiet minutes can serve as a mental check-in before the hustle begins.
Simple Stretches to Start With
1 Neck Rolls
• Slowly tilt your head from side to side, then forward and back. Finish with gentle circles in each direction.
2. Shoulder Shrugs and Rolls
• Lift your shoulders towards your ears, then roll them back and down. Repeat several times to release tension.
3. Standing Forward Bend
• Stand with feet hip-width apart, hinge at your hips, and fold forward, letting your head and arms hang.
Slightly bend your knees if needed.
4 Cat-Cow Stretch
On all fours, alternate between arching your back (cat) and dipping it toward the floor (cow). This is great for spine mobility.
5. Seated Spinal Twist
Sit on the floor or a chair. Place your right hand on your left knee and gently twist to the left. Hold, then switch sides.
6. Standing Side Stretch
Reach your arms overhead, clasp your hands, and lean gently to one side. Stretch your torso and breathe deeply.
Tips for Success
• Breathe deeply during each stretch.
• Move slowly and mindfully — no need to rush.
• Listen to your body — never force a stretch.
• Consistency is key — even 5 minutes daily makes a difference.
If you’re interested in going deeper into stretching routines, many gyms and wellness centers in Kuwait — like Inspire Pure Fitness, Spark Athletic Center, and the yoga programs at all of the different studios — offer classes that integrate stretching and mobility exercises.
Starting your morning with a few simple stretches isn’t just good for your body; it’s a gift to your mind and spirit as well. In a world that moves fast, taking even a few minutes to reconnect with your body can set the tone for a more energized, mindful, and productive day.
So tomorrow morning, before you reach for your phone or rush out the door, try a few stretches. Your body — and your mood — will thank you.

SAY WHAT?
Can cochlear implants slow dementia in older adults?
By DeeDee Stiepan
Recent studies have shown a strong link between hearing loss and cognitive decline, with severe hearing loss increasing the risk of cognitive decline by up to fivefold. Dr. Nicholas Deep, a Mayo Clinic ear and skull base surgeon who specializes in hearing disorders, explains the impact cochlear implants have on patients at high risk for dementia.
Imagine the effort it would take to constantly squint at a blurry chalkboard. That’s similar to what the brain goes through when someone is experiencing hearing loss.
“As we work harder to hear, the brain is utilizing extra cognitive resources just to listen in and make sense of the words and sentences. And that can be fatiguing to the brain,” says Dr. Deep. “Similarly, if we don’t stimulate the auditory pathway, those synapses become weaker and weaker over time. They can even begin to shrink, and that can also accelerate cognitive decline.”
Severe hearing loss can increase the risk of dementia fivefold. However, it’s a modifiable risk.
There are different solutions depending on the degree of hearing loss.
Cochlear implants
“A cochlear implant is a device to restore hearing in patients with advanced hearing loss by bypassing the damaged inner ear hair cells and providing direct stimulation to the hearing nerve,” says Dr. Deep.
Unlike a hearing aid, which just amplifies sound, a cochlear implant improves the speech clarity of that sound, making conversation easier.
“We know that treating hearing loss, whether with hearing aids or cochlear implantation, has
tremendous quality of life benefits in terms of improving independence and reducing social isolation,” says Dr. Deep.
And it may even reduce the rate of cognitive decline for those at greater risk.
“A recent large, prospective trial found that in older adults at risk for cognitive decline, use of the hearing aid for three years reduced their cognitive decline by 48%. So it really underscores the importance of hearing and its ability to maintain healthy cognitive function,” says Dr. Deep.

Summer ‘25
THE LAST TRUE ESCAPE
The Story of a Library Volunteer
By Armi Menorca
I am a library volunteer, and this is my open book. As the world gets smaller (and warmer), I organized my great escape. It’s an entire library.
I have always thought of a library as the cradle of knowledge, and working at a children’s public library bears more weight to the thought. This cozy little corner pinned along the stretch of Arabian Gulf Street is a playground for young thinkers, with its top shelf collection of English, Arabic and international books. During the first few chapters of my work, I realized chatting with kids is like reading an ambiguous book and answering loads of hypothetical questions—with a side serving of random gossip about the neighbor’s chatty cats. They come from different parts of the world, each
carrying with them the stories of their people (the kids, not the cats). I like it when people go to places like the library during summer instead of basking under the summer sun in a luxurious beach resort abroad. After all, that’s what a summer getaway is for. You get away from summer. But there are a few days of hide-and-seek, as well, when kids take a break from their reading spree. These days are as dark as the Onceler’s soul, making me want to give up at times. But I’m not the one to raise the white flag that easily, no no no. The kids have yet to supply us with their never-ending swashbuckling
adventures in Failaka or their knock-knock falafel jokes. So I wait, making sure that the bookworms are well-fed and dusted.
I recall when I was younger, the school library was my first best friend, and challenged books, my first heartbreak.
Fast-forward to today, libraries are sandwiched between devices fed with autocorrects and BRBs. Some might argue that books don’t stand a chance against toddlers, too, but I digress. I think some books don’t mind getting poked at by tiny, sticky fingers. Even one of the books reverse-psyched
its prospective readers by saying “don’t touch this dot” while wagging a big red dot on their faces. And some collections even have resident puppets inside the pages for toddlers to stick their hands into, drool and all. But I think toddlers are a whole new species. They see a book and they see a toy, a stool, or a snack. Once upon a time, there was a book that was so good it was devoured by a hungry one-year-old munchkin in the city of Ozgard. The End. I guess it becomes a bragging right for parents in later conversations. “My three-yearold can recite the A, B, Cs.” “Yeah, but can they swallow a whole book?”
In my eyes, volunteering in a library is not a lost cause. I’m pumped to see screen-plastered children finally befriending printed books, making dog ears on random pages as they go. Add to that the joy of lending hands to fellow volunteers. Young and old kids would huddle next to me as we land on an island where the wild things are or tail down a boy named Harold and his magical purple crayon. Other days, we just sit by the bookshelves waiting for a hat-wearing cat to bust the door. But, alas, the Grimms’ dragons still lurk behind the tattered pages. And when our browsing and skimming come to an end, we settle down with one wordless book, the one that guarantees a chorus of “oooohhhs” and “wooooows” from the young readers.
My favorite part of the library is the multilingual shelf. From Greek and Armenian to Japanese and Spanish, we get to join in a dialogue of cultures. Some books are written in their original languages; some are translations from English or Arabic. Either way, I love watching kids discover the workings of a mother tongue different than theirs, the languages of the world, some of which we hear every day in Maliya. It’s like traveling to other places aboard unfamiliar words. Add to that some gibberish when a baby joins the chat. And voilà! You have a book club of many sounds.
But here’s the twist ending.
Volunteering in a children’s library made me realize I’m a grown up reuniting with the inner child in me. I believe serving a far greater cause is the best thing about doing community outreach, besides gaining experience or passing the time. In this little library, I get to witness the wisdom of the youth and be part of the stories where little ones can defeat the monsters purely with their own minds.

FORGET GREATNESS
Manage your time like a lazy genius
By Next Big Idea Club
Kendra Adachi is the host of The Lazy Genius Podcast and the New York Times bestselling author of two books, The Lazy Genius Way and The Lazy Genius Kitchen.
The goal of excellent time management shouldn’t be to achieve maximum productivity and perfection. That approach is a recipe for fleeting satisfaction amid anxiety and shame. To manage time without being at its mercy, learn to plan in a way that fills you with contentedness and confidence every single day. Learn to plan not for a good life someday but for good living today.
Below, Adachi shares five key insights from her new book, The PLAN: Manage Your Time Like a Lazy Genius. Listen to the audio version—read by Adachi herself—in the Next Big Idea App.
1. A good life doesn’t have to be great to matter. In America, greatness, hustle, opportunity, and potential are in the fabric of our national identity. The American dream tells us to chase after and fight for what we want as we constantly seek to grow in greatness and prosperity. We should all be masters of our craft and our lives. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, some personalities are suited for the pursuit of greatness, some jobs require it, and some people genuinely love it. Trying to master something is a beautiful thing, and we all benefit from the mastery of others. But there is an expectation that if you’re not always trying to be great, you’re wasting your life. I disagree.
The reality is that most of us live fairly average lives, but rather than celebrating and cultivating contentment and valuing beauty in the ordinary, we’re told to keep hustling. Make every minute of every day count toward an invisible future that you have reverse-engineered and are constantly striving to bring to fruition. If you can’t do it, you’re considered not disciplined or motivated enough.
That’s a dangerous paradigm to live under. The future is beautiful. Mastery is, too, but I don’t think that is where we can begin.
2. You’re allowed to start with who and where you are today.
I have read many time management books over the years. I have bought many planners. I have gone into so many Januarys fiercely optimistic about what I would make better and accomplish because the future felt bright. But just like we can have an unbalanced obsession with mastery, we can have an unbalanced obsession with the future.
It is good and honorable to care about your future, plan for it, and take steps now to ensure it looks a certain way later. But you’re allowed to start with who and where you are today. You’re allowed to focus only on today without any consideration of the future. You can make decisions today that only
serve today, and not later. Not every choice, task, or habit has to be in service to future dreams. They can, but they don’t have to.
I remember feeling the difficulty of this in my early 30s when I had two tiny kids. I was in my peak time management era, trying to get every bit of information I could on how to be the architect of my future. That message communicates a false sense of security that I am in full control of my life. I don’t know if you’ve ever spent an entire day with tiny children and then another day after that and then many, many more. You have very little control over what is going to happen. If the purpose of each day is to build on itself to serve an ideal, invisible future, those ordinary days that many people (especially women) have for months or years at a time feel like they are not enough. If that’s you, you might experience a deep sense of loss, resentment, and insufficiency when you look at your life.
In this pursuit of greatness and an invisible future, we often leave behind our humanity. We ignore the needs of our bodies, families, mental health, and peace. We don’t prioritize rest and play. We call ourselves lazy when we aren’t optimizing every moment. There is this undercurrent that the best version of us is in the future, and we should focus on that person rather than who we are right now.
In the current productivity paradigm, a contented life full of kindness, patience, and reasonable choices that honor who and where you are today is looked upon as an exception—as settling, as giving up. It’s a stopgap until you have enough energy, resources, discipline, and motivation to pursue greatness once again.
I believe you are allowed to start with who and where you are today, not as a second measure, excuse, or necessity before real work begins, but as the foundation for everything. When you start with who and where you are today, it invites a new goal.
3. The goal is not greatness. It’s integration. Instead of greatness being the ultimate goal, what if it’s integration? What if it’s personal wholeness, groundedness, a steady stance in the face of any circumstance? Instead of reflecting on what happened during the day, what if you reflected on how you experienced it?
One of the most pivotal moments for me in this paradigm shift was about ten years ago when I was home with two small children. I was reading a time management book geared towards mothers, and the author described two separate days. The first was a day of chaos. Her girls didn’t nap; they threw their food; the errands were a bust; and the mom didn’t get a chance to sit down, let alone shower. It
was the quintessential image of being a hot mess mom. Then she described the next day when her children napped simultaneously. She completed all the errands, looked put together while doing it, and made dinner ahead of time. When her husband came home, surprisingly, with some clients from out of town to join their family for dinner, she was ready. I remember reading the account of these two days and anticipating that her next line would be something like, “And both of those days matter.” But that’s not what she said. She said, “And that day [the second one] was the proudest I ever felt as a mother and wife.” I remember reading that like it happened yesterday. My heart sank. My confidence plummeted. I wanted permission to be myself, content with and proud of just getting through a hard day. That is when I realized I had a different goal. That author’s goal was greatness. Mine is integration.
When your entire life is oriented around being the truest version of yourself, no matter what happens, you are a lighthouse in the storm. You are an oak in the wind. You are the stubborn will of a toddler refusing to eat their peas. The strength that comes from the goal of personal integration is markedly different than the strength that comes from the goal of greatness. One is lifelong. The other is fickle. As my friend and poet David Gate wrote, “Hustle makes for a terrible compass.”
4. Your season of life matters.
We often see life as one long line from A to B. Ideally, there should be no speedbumps, detours, or changed minds during the journey. There always will be, but our intent is to avoid them at all costs. Stay the course.
My life is not at all like that.
Your season of life matters. If you are caring for an aging parent, adding a new baby to your family, changing jobs or homes, dealing with a chronic health condition, or struggling through a particularly tough season of mental illness, the way you manage your time and live your life must change. It’s not laziness or plugging a leak. Honoring your seasons of life matters. It’s critical to living a life of kindness and contentment.
You no longer have to put your head down and fight through a difficult time to maintain the priorities other people have placed on you, particularly the priority of greatness. When integration is the goal, you see your season of life not with resentment but with compassion. You can be who and where you are today because you recognize that it is a season—it is not forever, and you will honor it now.
5. It’s more valuable to learn how to pivot than how to plan.
The name of my book is The PLAN, so yes, I’m aware of the irony of this last insight. I love planning, and plans are valuable. However, we are far more likely to require skills of pivoting than those of planning. Daily life is full of obstacles. We create a plan to get through the day, but when circumstances thwart those plans, we stand our ground, force rigidity (sometimes calling it discipline), and don’t respond kindly to whatever is happening. That posture is harmful and unnecessary.
Pivoting is a required skill, and we need to learn how to do it better. Rather than seeking out new and better ways to plan, prepare for the day, and create systems that succeed and routines that never break down, try putting some of that energy into learning to pivot. Be resilient and flexible when plans fall apart. Be nimble and compassionate. When you no longer pursue greatness first but instead honor integration and who you are today, your access to a skillset of pivoting is a beautifully wide door.
