Oh well, no complaints, we’re blessed to be living by the sea, with an abundance of beaches, and amazingly fun beach clubs that suit all budgets and vibes, as well as so many cool chalets that one can rent for the weekend, and then of course you have the boats and yachts for rent too, if you’re feeling generous that is! This month, we’re starting you off with our latest discover, the Miracle of Mind app. It’s a revolutionary new tool that will help you learn how to meditate in a way that fully transforms your mental and physical health. If you would prefer to focus on happiness for now, then you’ll love getting to know Rania Badreldin, a happiness consultant, podcaster. Social entrepreneur and recently author. Our Truth or Dare candidate for the issue, wonders “Why can’t we all be happy”, which is the title of her book. An question worth asking and answering. We also got Up Close and Personal with artist, who tends to specialize in comics, Mohammed Alsanea. We spoke about his journey as an artist, which started drawing comics with his sister as a child, to managing an art residency and creative hub in Vietnam. We also got the deets on his later project the updated Map of Kuwait project (which you can see on the cover). On a slightly different, but still creative note, we learned more about Culture Corner, a podcast from Promenade Culture Centre. The creators of the podcast wanted their conversations to have no pretense or performance, just raw real conversations that leave the participants and listeners that their lives had changed, even if just a little. Their guests span a diverse cast that includes, researchers, curators, artists and an animal rights activists among many more. New Wellness App Surpasses 1 Million Downloads in 24 Hours, Outpacing ChatGPT By bazaar Staff

‘Miracle of Mind’, a new meditation app from renowned Indian Yogi Sadhguru has achieved an extraordinary milestone, surpassing 1 million downloads within its first 15 hours of release. You may call it stress, anxiety, tension,” he said. On the app, Sadhguru’s voice takes users through breathing exercises starting with seven minutes with an option to continue through to 21 minutes. Dr. Balachundhar Subramaniam, Harvard Professor of Anesthesiology, has conducted extensive peer-reviewed research on meditation practices. His studies show significant improvements in mental health and interpersonal connections. He states: “Meditation has proven scientific benefits—better sleep, resilience to mental health challenges, and enhanced social interactions. What makes this app remarkable is its accessibility. Mental health solutions are

often costly or time-consuming, but here, in just 7 minutes, anyone can take a step toward wellbeing. FINDING HAPPINESS FROM THE INSIDE OUT How Rania Badreldin, the Happiness Consultant is Creating Ripples of Joy and Change By bazaar Staff

For Rania Badreldin, happiness isn’t a fleeting emotion or a privilege reserved for the few. It’s a mission. A way of life. A daily commitment to inner peace that she has been cultivating—and inspiring others to embrace—throughout a transformative career journey that began decades ago. 18

Before she became known as Egypt’s “Happiness Consultant,” Rania was already shaping lives through her pioneering work as a social entrepreneur. In 1995, her experience as a young mother inspired her to support other parents by launching a publication that provided guidance and resources. She would go on to reach millions of families across the country through her platform, “Mother & Child”. But it was a profound personal breakthrough in 2017, during a training in NLP, Hypnosis, and Time Line Therapy, that ignited her path toward becoming a formal guide to joy and well-being. “I worked through struggles, learned so much about myself, and emerged with new priorities,” she says. “That journey sparked a deep interest in happiness—what it really means, how we can access it, and how we can live it.” That spark would become a steady flame. While continuing to run her social enterprise, Rania trained as a coach, held workshops, launched online programs, hosted retreats, and began speaking publicly about happiness and fulfillment. But as life evolved, she found herself returning to her first love: writing. The result is her recent book, Why Can’t We All Be Happy?, a heartfelt, practical guide to unlocking happiness through five foundational steps. At the core of her message? Self-awareness, self-acceptance, and—most importantly—selflove. “For years, I thought self-love was selfish,” she admits. “But I’ve learned it’s the foundation for everything. When we begin with awareness and acceptance, love flows naturally. And from

love, everything else can follow—kindness, clarity, purpose, peace.” Rania’s book resonates across age groups and cultures, with readers ranging from 16 to 85. She encourages them to question inherited norms, connect with their values, and embrace their individuality. This message also weaves through her podcast Happiness for Humanity, which she launched in November 2023 in response to escalating global injustices. “I didn’t want to exist in a parallel reality,” she explains. “I wanted to have real conversations— about human rights, spirituality, personal growth, and the world we want to build.” Through her podcast, Rania explored the ways happiness intersects with societal challenges and individual struggles alike. “Despite the wealth of resources out there, unhappiness is rampant. It’s time to take action—and that starts within each of us.” She’s quick to note that happiness isn’t about being joyful all the time. “That’s one of the biggest misconceptions. Real happiness includes the full spectrum of emotions. It’s about emotional diversity—being able to feel, process, and grow from all of it.” Her life philosophy has evolved, but her dedication to families remains strong. Through The Family Experts, a network of professionals under the umbrella of her social enterprise, The Family Hub, Rania and her team developed Egypt’s National Parenting Toolkit in collaboration with UNICEF and several ministries. Together, they’ve delivered training and resources to social workers, teachers, and religious leaders across the country.

And when it comes to managing family and business? Rania doesn’t chase the elusive “balance.” “I prioritize inner peace,” she says. “I live in alignment with my values. My family comes first, and then I devote time to the work that lights me up—my social enterprise, my writing, and helping others find happiness.” Of course, the journey hasn’t always been smooth. Writing her book took longer than expected, especially during what she describes as one of the most emotionally difficult periods of her life. But she persisted. “There’s a chapter called ‘What to Do When Life Sucks’—because life did feel like it sucked. I wrote when I could and paused when I needed to. Eventually, I came back to it and saw it through.” Her metaphor for personal growth is unforgettable. “I used to say it felt like I was running in front of a train, trying to keep up with the work I was so passionate about. But during my training, I realized how absurd that was. So I stopped running. I got on the train. I picked my favorite seat. And now, I invite others to join me so we can enjoy the ride together.” Looking ahead, Rania is full of ideas. She’s considering a program based on her book, wants to translate it into Arabic, and is open to more public speaking. Her ultimate dream? A world that makes us proud to be here. “Let’s find our way back to love. Let’s reconnect with our humanity,” she says. “Let’s come together and dare to dream of a bright future—for all of us.” [Continued...]

Rashed’s use of rich pigments, gold leaf, and mica brings Piaget’s universe to life, infusing her figures with movement, energy, and abundant flow. To honour the earthly bodies, she embellishes them with glistening painterly gestures, mirroring the brilliance of Piaget’s diamonds, jewels, and exceptional craftsmanship.

This painting serves as an ode to Piaget’s iconic shapes, graceful movement, bold creativity, and timeless savoir-faire, capturing the whirling spirit that dances through the vibrancy of its presence in this life and beyond. For Alyamamah Rashed, art has always been more than a passion—it is a way of existing in the world. Raised in a creative household where afternoons were spent drawing with her father or painting with her mother, she found her calling early. At 17, she moved from Kuwait to New York, chasing her dreams with a BFA from the School of Visual Arts and later an MFA from Parsons School of Design. Her journey, shaped by vibrant cityscapes and the quiet pulse of memory, now continues in Kuwait, where she nurtures her evolving practice under the representation of Tabari Art Space and Hunna Art. Central to her work is a rich exploration of identity, nature, and culture, themes that ebb and flow like tides throughout her paintings. “Identity for me is fluid,” she explains. “It’s shaped by memory,

place, and how objects transform through symbols and figuration.” Growing up between Kuwait and New York lent her a unique, layered perspective— one that marries the personal with the collective. In her paintings, nature often serves as a sacred setting, a mirror to emotional landscapes, while cultural motifs are woven subtly into gestures, rhythms, and materials. This intrinsic sense of duality made her the perfect collaborator for Piaget’s Play on Shape exhibition at Art Dubai. The luxury maison, celebrated for its craftsmanship and energy drawn from the free-spirited 1960s and 70s, found a natural conversation partner in Rashed’s ever-evolving, fluid world. “Piaget’s trapeze motif immediately spoke to me,” she says. “I saw it as a sun that ripples, a giver of life. From that, I imagined blue figures—born from a singular blue atom—caressing and rotating eternally around the sun.”

Her commissioned piece, Your Love Moves Around My Trapeze Sun (Will You Hold Our Glistening Light?), is a visual dance between heritage and spirit, blending Piaget’s iconic shapes with Rashed’s signature figures. Through careful layering of raw pigments, gold leaf, and pointillism techniques, she infused the painting with symbolic energy. “Each dot represents the atom of the spirit,” Rashed shares. “It bursts into existence, wrapping itself around the trapeze sun in a dance of life and renewal.” For Rashed, the collaboration with Piaget felt like a natural extension of her own artistic language. “Piaget’s history carries a sense of movement, form, and eternal expansion,” she says. “Those themes are already alive in my work. Collaborating with them felt effortless, like two spirits meeting and merging.” Instead of altering her practice, the partnership amplified her storytelling, allowing her to dress her fluid, fluctuating figures in the maison’s multidimensional heritage.

Exhibiting the work at Art Dubai is particularly meaningful for Rashed. “Art Dubai offers a platform where Arab artists can share their stories not just internationally, but within the region itself,” she reflects. Ever since I was a child, I’ve used my smile as my only weapon to fight the surrounding chaos. In the middle of life’s battles, smiling became my shield—and my gift. For the past years, I’ve been smiling, giving, caring, and sharing.

It started with Facebook—my happy little corner where I shared joy on people’s newsfeeds. Then came spontaneous conversations with strangers, each one touched by a simple smile that somehow improved their day. Volunteering with love for years— listening, caring, simply being there—has always fulfilled my soul. There’s something truly special about helping others and choosing goodness in every phase of life. Later on in my career, I was honored with the Best Smile Award at one of my previous jobs—a beautiful reminder that wherever I go, I leave behind a little sparkle. Smiling became my magic. And guess what? You have that magic too. People always tell me I carry a special, positive, joyful vibe. That when they’re around me, they feel happy and accepted. And God, that feeling—knowing I can make someone feel that way—reminds me that this is my purpose. Every step I’ve taken, every path I’ve walked, has been leading me closer to a dream that’s been glowing in my heart since I was a child: to inspire. To speak out loud. MAPPING MEMORIES WITH MOHAMMED ALSANEA

The Artist Bringing Kuwait City to Life, One Map at a Time By bazaar Staff

If you’ve wandered through the streets of Kuwait City with a charming, hand-illustrated map in hand, chances are you’ve already encountered the work of Moe. Quietly creative and brimming with thoughtful energy, Moe is an artist who doesn’t just draw buildings— he breathes new life into them. Through his collaborative map project, he’s turned exploration into a personal, artful experience.

“I usually introduce myself as Moe, an artist— and when my confidence is at its peak, a comic artist,” he laughs. Though art wasn’t always a clear career path, it was always in the background. “I’ve always liked to draw,” Moe reflects. “Me and my sister used to write and draw short stories too. But I wouldn’t say that I’ve always wanted to be an artist. Perhaps I never thought that it could be a path to go through in life at the time.” Still, the passion never faded, and years later, it found its perfect canvas in an unexpected place: a black-and-white map handed to him during a backpacking trip through Mumbai. “The map was simple but it was very personal,” he recalls. “It highlighted things that only a local friend can tell you about—where to do your laundry, where to eat, and so on.” That spark of

hyper-local storytelling through illustration stayed with him. “It was this map that made me itch to do something for Kuwait City.” The first map of Kuwait was entirely handdrawn by Moe. It featured offbeat nuggets of knowledge like where to borrow a free bike or feed pigeons, combining the whimsical with the practical. “We launched it with the help of Norah Al Jassar, who added digital colors. We were lucky to find a sponsor for printing, and we delivered the map ourselves around different venues across Kuwait City.” That early effort quickly turned into a multimap journey. Moe teamed up with Sulaiman Al Rodhan, who brought in-depth knowledge of the city’s architecture and cultural sites. Together, they created four different editions, including a version focused on Salmiya and an Arabic

translation. The goal was always the same: to help residents and visitors experience the city in a new, more connected way. “As for the journey,” Moe says, “well, I hope that this map would help in pouring life back into the old buildings and museums around the city.” Each version of the map has had its own rhythm and team. For the latest edition, Moe took a step back from illustrating and instead managed the project alongside a talented Indian comic artist named Boris. “The idea we have in the future is to work with a new local artist to launch these hand-drawn maps,” he shares. The team behind the project reads like a creative dream crew. “Sulaiman takes care of the project in terms of dealing with organizations within the map, gathering the extensive list you can find on the back, and handling social media.

Norah Al Jassar worked on the cover and Arabic lyrics. Alaa Al Terkait helped us edit and translate the map. And then there’s me,” he says modestly. Selecting the landmarks was no easy task, and there were limitations. “We wished the map was able to include Al Jahra and the north of Kuwait, but for visual purposes, we couldn’t,” Moe explains. “However, we tried to include everything we knew and thought of as important.” When asked about his favorite part of the project, Moe’s response is as grounded as his illustrations. “I guess how well it was received,” he says. “And I wouldn’t change anything—this is a process, and with every new map we learn something new and build on it.” As for what’s next, Moe and his team are thinking of ways to make the maps more interactive. “We’re thinking of launching a puzzle

version for young kids,” he says. And beyond the map, Moe has been busy building something even bigger. He currently manages TaDang, an art residency and creative hub in DaLat, Vietnam. “We hope to get artists from Kuwait and the Middle East to the Southeast region and work together on some creative ideas.” Will there be more maps in the future? “Yes, hopefully,” Moe says with a smile. “The puzzle… and perhaps other things.” To aspiring creatives, Moe offers a heartfelt reminder: “Trust yourself, and God will show you the way. That’s what I say to myself.” With a pen, a passion for storytelling, and a knack for collaboration, Moe’s maps are more than just guides—they’re invitations to rediscover our cities and see the beauty in the details we often overlook. of the 20th century, particularly a marriage of Bauhaus and Brutalist design styles, which influenced many of his chair recreations and designs at Verge. Bauhaus exemplifies “purpose over form” modus operandi, and Brutalist emphasizes raw materials, logical structures and purity of form. Both styles reimagined design and birthed the very first examples of minimalism. Having graduated from Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia, a city that flourished in midcentury architecture, Humoud completed his degree in 20th century design and digital media design and upon graduating, became well versed in iconic designers and architects that inspired his early journey as a designer.

Back in Kuwait during his ex-banking days Humoud would look obsessively over a Brutalist building from the 1970s, from his office, The old Souk Al Wataniya. Searching for new quarters for BASTA as a recent board member of a non-profit organization supporting children’s education, Humoud thought if this brutalist interpretation of an arabesque design with its dated arches could house the new BASTA Space. Little did he know it would turn into an “object gallery” by night years later to showcase Verge pieces. Humoud began his first renovation opening up the place and transforming it into a beautiful modern space, fitting the old yard with a glass roof and fitting large beautiful wooden beams to textured worn out high

ceilings. The space transformation was his first physical testament to his love for design. After this renovation came to light, Humoud’s interest in object design evolved and he decided to model the unavoidable dilemma of every designer, creating a personal chair. In 2017 he decided to design a chair without any idea he would start a furniture and object design concept business with current business partner, Fajer Qabazard. Convinced that every designer must design “A Chair” that reflects a design identity and act as an early design footprint, Humoud began sketching his first chair’s blueprints, a cube-like structure out of raw unconventional materials, stainless steel and Italian marble, giving the illusion that the marble seat is floating on air. His inspiration was his Divine spiritual journey and the cubical form of “The Holy Kaaba” in Mecca. That combined with derivative Bauhaus inspirations and minimalism at large found their way into the final form of his first ever chair “Kursy”. Years later the recreation for “Kursy” would be the starting point for Humoud and Fajer’s company launch. Fajer Qabazard was the ideal business partner for Humoud. Coming from the Qabazards’ family known for their diverse artistic backgrounds, of artists, directors, producers and a close relative owning Que.haus, a concept boutique to curated home accessories and furniture, Fajer understood furniture well and the nuances of the Kuwait market when it came to niche preferences in specific design directions. She understood which segments would align with their unique brand identity, and how the brand’s customers perceive their needs when it comes to furniture. As the PR image of the brand, Fajer aims to cement Verge’s foundation in their niche market first and later expand it to a broader audience. Humoud and Fajer started designing their first collection for Verge in 2023. The recurring materials common to their debut collection were stainless steel, green marble, and natural stone, equally favored and loved by both. The collection evolved to add limited reclaimed midcentury pieces from the 60s and 70s, wood, reupholstered leather and repurposed mink fur. The first chair for Verge, “Kursy” was a recreation of Humoud’s original chair back in 2017. Similarly made from stainless steel the seat was made from Indian marble to give it commercial durability. The Second chair came quickly after that, after a much-needed self-indulgent challenge. It was a recreation of the famous iconic Red and Blue chair by the Dutch designer and architect Garit Rietveld who followed a specific exploration of minimal simplicity with dimensional architectural planes. Humoud approached this fascinating recreation with a modern reinterpretation of the original wooden blueprints of the chair to pay homage to the midcentury/Bauhaus Designer from whom he takes inspiration. Though using stainless steel seemed like a hopeless task at first, as welding metal at such angles seemed inconceivably impossible, [Continued...]

he dove into the challenge. He renamed his chair the “Green and Silver” chair after successfully transforming the blueprints into a marble and steel recreational haven of utmost craftsmanship, optimum angles perfected for the human posture, and a grounding of senses through the use of natural materials in their purest forms to maintain a brutalist aesthetic. Yet another beautiful piece was “Al Atlal” named after Om Kulthum’s famous Arabic song from the 1960s Al Atlal meaning the word “ruins”. In a sustainable design approach Humoud recovered discarded limestone pillars and repurposed those “ruins” into sculptural drink tables. To extend the pillars’ aged look he welded an iron framework onto them chosen for iron’s inherent rusting property and exposed the welding burns to give an even more rough and organic finish. Later a green marble surface, common with their first collection pieces, was added on top to connect the pillars and create a beautiful sculptural drink table for Verge. In fact, the origins for the piece, those pillars, were made to connect with the title of the song “historical ruins”. As an extension to their first collection, Humoud found another passion. Tapping into refurbished original pieces specifically re-claimed midcentury objects or chairs. He found a rare piece, a1955 mid-century chair by the famous Brazilian architectdesigner Sergio Rodrigues, dubbed the Father of Brazilian furniture, of which only a few pieces were locally sourced and handmade in Brazil at the time, named the Brazilian sling chair. A beautiful wooden chair with a beautiful solid rosewood frame fitted with natural leather to suit the tropical climate of Brazil. Humoud lovingly began a full restoration on the reclaimed piece, sanded the old wood, re-stained it and replaced the original leather with cowhide to give it a modern and contemporary finish. Verge’s second collection was done in a more complex approach with the use of richer and many

more organic materials. Humoud and Fajer better understood stainless steel this time and re-injected the metal into their next collection using more sophisticated ways. Stainless steel took different forms in this collection using sheets over pipes that built the solid forms in the year before. This time, laser cutting precision techniques prevailed to bend the stainless-steel sheets with utmost precision into more comfortable angles. The duo aimed to redefine the conventional paradigms of stainless steel which was once considered a “hostile material” and turned it into an organic warm finished piece. The sustainability angle of the brand lies in a consistent design approach which aims to restore reclaimed classics and upcycling or repurposing organic material into new recreations. One of Verge’s reclaimed chairs, the 60s midcentury Mink Chair, was reupholstered out of repurposed mink. In an effort to weave a love story into his creations, Humoud transformed a loved piece by his late mother, an old fabulous Vintage mink coat Circa 1970s on reclaimed mid century desk chairs to give his pieces a special meaning. Though the pieces sold were limited pieces, he aims to reproduce it in commercial quantities but made to order, from once again repurposed mink and the original blueprints of the reclaimed chair. Another sustainable object/ piece is the silver ottoman whose cowhide was sourced from leftover fabric from Humoud’s second business, his refined avantgarde tailoring, Crude, a consistent link that exists in material and form between both brands. In a similar example, another refurbished 70s armchair was reupholstered in cowhide that fed into Crude’s signature corsets using the leftover material. The focal point of Verge’s sustainability, was the use of discarded naturally shed antlers in their recent collection from deer on one of Kuwait’s farms and were incorporated into signature pieces and as sculptural pieces on their own.

Yet again an iconic reclaimed piece in the second collection is the timeless classic, Le Corbusier LC4 lounge chair from 1964, a collaboration by French designers C. Perriand and Le Corbusier and Swiss Architect P. Jeanneret. After getting his hands on this quintessential original piece that sustained weathering and damage to the pony skin Humoud reconditioned it and later dyed it with an orange Henna dye to saturate the hide/hairs with color, tone and vividness and gave the final piece a more youthful look to fit today’s Spaces. Humoud and Fajer understand their unconventional designs pushes boundaries and aim to bring about a shift in taste in Kuwait through awareness and a sense of “el zaman el gameel” through creating more “showroom” events to allow the public to familiarize themselves more with their midcentury classic and timeless designs. They further aim to create a community and collaborate with potential artists in the field. By continually adding pieces to their collections in reclaimed or repurposed fashion, it allows them to weave sophisticated stories and unique brand storytelling for their customers. As the Co-Founder and PR image for the brand, Fajer speaks of the brand’s bold plans for a consistent production line and expansions into Bahrain and Saudi markets, specifically the city of Riyadh. She recognizes that both communities have their traditions rooted in the arts and promote the arts strongly, and above all the arts scene is believed by both Founders to align with the innovative energy of the brand. The utmost goal for both is for their Verge pieces to find “ a home” and fit into every house that appreciates classic timeless statement pieces that give each its distinct voice.
