August already? Somehow, despite everything this year has thrown at us, summer keeps moving, life keeps happening, and the show, as they say, must go on. We’ve learned a thing or two about resilience over the past few months, and perhaps the biggest lesson is that sometimes you just have to keep going. Holidays are winding down, suitcases are slowly being unpacked, and before we know it, alarms will be set, school runs will begin, and our familiar routines will take over again. And honestly, after the year we’ve had, a little normality sounds pretty good right now.

So, naturally, this issue is all about looking forward, getting back into the swing of things, and finding a few beautiful distractions along the way.

We sit down with Noor Alhuneidi, founder of KBT, a Gulf-based tech company tackling something anyone who shops online knows all too well: the complete gamble that is sizing. KBT wants us to stop guessing, using a one-time body scan to match shoppers with how individual garments will actually fit. Even more exciting is that Noor is building it from the Gulf, for a region whose bodies, preferences, and approach to fashion have too often been an afterthought for global retail.

Azza Fahmy Jewellery presents its newest Soraya Collection, inspired by the enduring symbolism of the crescent moon and stars, reimagined through the brand’s lens of storytelling, craftsmanship and cultural exploration.

For centuries, the crescent and star have travelled across the Ottoman world, woven into architecture, textiles, jewelry and decorative arts.

Carried across generations, the motif became part of a rich visual language that remained recognizable while continually taking on new forms.

At the heart of Soraya lies one of Azza Fahmy’s most recognizable signatures: the chain. More than a functional element, it becomes the collection’s defining language. Inspired by and brought to life through the house’s intricate mesh-like chain technique, Soraya transforms chainwork into fluid surfaces that recall the softness and drape of textile. Chains connect motifs, create movement and shape fluid silhouettes, transforming ornament into structure.

The collection explores celestial symbolism through a rich variety of forms and inspirations. The Celestial Scarf Necklace transforms Azza Fahmy’s signature chain into a fluid, scarf-like composition inscribed with a lyric from the beloved Warda song, translating to “my days become sweeter with you.”

Designed to be worn in multiple ways, it is finished with cascading chains adorned with crescent and star motifs that bring movement and lightness to the piece. Taking approximately 82 hours to create, the necklace is a testament to the exceptional level of craftsmanship behind the collection, where every detail is thoughtfully executed by hand in keeping with the brand’s dedication to artistry and heritage.

The Cascading Crescent & Star Earrings reinterpret one of the brand’s most recognizable chain forms through an Ottoman crescent and star motif at the ear, from which a mesh-like composition falls with the softness of textile.

Emerging from the cascading chains, celestial motifs create a dynamic interplay of light and movement. The design is also offered in an allgold version adorned with diamonds, elevating the piece into a statement of refined glamour.

Inspired by Victorian jewelry, the Celestial Beaded Choker reimagines the classic pearl choker through the celestial language of Soraya. Composed of three strands of pearls or colored stones, the design is centered by an Ottoman crescent and star motif set with champagne diamonds, presented upside down as a contemporary reinterpretation of a familiar symbol.

The collection also pays homage to traditional Egyptian jewelry through the Celestial Kirdan Necklace, inspired by Fallahy adornments worn in rural Egypt. Another key design, the Constellation Chain Bracelet, reimagines Azza Fahmy’s iconic chain by incorporating star motifs in three distinct forms. Together, they create a mesh-like structure reminiscent of woven textile, while three Ottoman crescent and star motifs at its center unite the collection’s celestial narrative with the house’s signature chainwork.

Throughout Soraya, rings, bangles, pendants and earrings continue this dialogue between history and reinvention. Pieces such as the Cascading Celestial Choker, Ottoman Crescent & Star Ring, Three Star & Crescent Ring, Star & Crescent Bangle and Ottoman Chain Bracelet reinterpret historic

David Beckham marked his annual appearance at London’s internationally renowned tennis championship this week, arriving on day one in a bespoke BOSS ensemble that once again confirmed his place among the most closely watched dressers in sport.

For the occasion, Beckham wore a custom double-breasted suit from BOSS Made To Measure, cut from a light grey micro-pattern wool.

THE WOMAN TEACHING FASHION HOW TO FIT

Noor Alhuneidi never trained as an engineer, but she is building the infrastructure she believes online shopping has been missing all along By bazaar staff

Noor Alhuneidi does not describe herself the way most founders do. “Honestly, I’m just someone who takes action,” she says. “I don’t come from a tech background, which people find surprising when they hear I’m building a tech company. But I think that’s actually part of why I could.”

Her company, KBT, is a Gulf-based platform built to solve one of fashion’s quietest frustrations: not knowing whether something will fit until it is too late to do anything about it. The name has nothing to do with acronyms. It comes from ‫كبت‬, the Arabic word for closet. “Your closet is yours, and everything in it should actually fit you,” Alhuneidi explains. “It shouldn’t be full of things you’re about to return, or things you have to take to a tailor before you can wear them.”

That idea sits behind the company’s guiding 24

line: stop guessing. “Shopping online has always asked you to guess, and we didn’t think that had to be true anymore,” she says.

A Problem Hiding in Plain Sight The moment that convinced Alhuneidi to build a company came from a packing mishap. She had ordered a batch of clothes ahead of a trip, all in the same size. They arrived only days before she left, some too big, some too small.

“There was no time to return anything, so I

just made do with whatever fit,” she recalls. “It wasn’t the disappointment that stuck with me, it was realizing how absurd it was that this is normal.

We’ve all just accepted that ordering clothes online is a gamble.” Research followed, then conversations that confirmed it was universal. “It turned out everyone had the same story. That’s when it stopped being a personal annoyance and started being something worth building.”

Wrong sizing is consistently the leading reason clothing gets returned, and returns cost the global

fashion industry hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Alhuneidi is candid about why the issue has persisted. “Returns got treated as a cost of doing business rather than a problem to solve,” she says. “You can’t try clothes on through a screen, so everyone accepted the guess and built reverse logistics around it instead.”

She is equally direct about the limits of the standard size chart. “A generic size chart can help, but only to an extent,” she says. “The same person is a medium in one brand, and a large in another, and a chart won’t tell you that. It gives you a label, not the real information.”

Building the Fit Layer Alhuneidi describes KBT as “the fit layer of fashion.”

“We sit between a shopper’s body and a brand’s garment and translate one to the other. Brands keep their own sizing, shoppers keep their own bodies, and we handle the matching in between.

It’s infrastructure more than a feature.”

The mechanics follow four steps: a shopper creates a profile and completes a body scan through their phone camera, KBT captures measurements from that scan, those measurements are matched against a brand’s actual sizing for a specific item, and the shopper receives a personalized recommendation, down to where a garment might sit snug or loose and how the length will fall.

Alhuneidi is careful to note the privacy built into that process. “The photos aren’t stored, and the data is anonymized. We only keep what’s needed to

understand fit, nothing that identifies you.” The scan only happens once. “After that it’s reused across the brand’s items, so it’s a one-time effort, and then it just works.”

The harder problem, she says, is that sizing cannot be converted between brands the way currencies can. “A conversion chart assumes sizes mean the same thing across brands, and they don’t.

Two brands can both call something a medium and cut it four centimeters apart. You can’t convert, you have to calibrate, garment by garment.”

Keeping the system precise while easy for retailers to adopt was the defining design challenge. “We deliberately put the heavy work on our side so the brand’s part stays light, because the brands who need this most are often the ones without big engineering teams.” And the system keeps learning. “The more it sees of how real bodies relate to real garments, the sharper it gets. Over time it stops being a chart and starts becoming knowledge.”

Built in the Gulf KBT is a Gulf-based company, and Alhuneidi is clear the region is not a testing ground before a bigger market elsewhere; it is the foundation. “The Gulf is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in the world, and fashion is a huge part of how people here express themselves,” she says. “It’s also a market that’s been underserved by Western sizing for years, so the need is sharper here than almost anywhere.”

That grounding shapes how KBT thinks about fit itself. “Coverage, length, and drape matter in ways a standard Western fit model doesn’t account for, and so do the different body types the region actually represents,” she says.

London and Paris feature in KBT’s ambitions, but as future markets rather than existing footholds.

“We’re building from the Gulf and that’s the identity, not a steppingstone. The fit problem is universal.”

What Comes Next Alhuneidi is candid that convincing retail partners takes more than a good pitch. “What convinces a brand isn’t the technology, it’s their returns line.

When you show them what wrong-size returns are really costing them, and that it’s fixable, the conversation changes quickly.”

Her ambitions extend well past sizing. “I want KBT to be the layer brands assume they need, the way they assume they need search or payments. I want shopping online to stop feeling like a gamble.”

She credits the team around her, including Reem Al Ashban and Tuleen Al Rowaihy. “What we’re building, we’re building together,” she says.

Ultimately, Alhuneidi hopes KBT proves something bigger than a business case. “I’d be proud if KBT showed that you don’t need to come from a technical background to build something technical. You just need to care enough about the problem not to let it go.”

Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya has renewed its Green Key certification for 2026, reaffirming its commitment to responsible hospitality and the continued integration of sustainable practices across the guest experience and daily operations.

The certificate was presented during a visit to the Hotel by Ms Mona El Rez Bassaj, Consultant for the Environment and National Operator for the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE); Ms Hebah Abbas, Head of the Sustainability Committee at the Kuwait Water Association (KWA); and Ms Ibtissam Lamouchi, Assistant to Ms Bassaj. The delegation presented the certification to Martin Kipping, General Manager, and members of the Hotel Planning Committee.

“Renewing our Green Key certification is particularly meaningful because it recognises the consistency and collective effort behind our environmental commitments,” said Martin Kipping. “At Four Seasons, sustainability is not separate from the guest experience. It is part of how we care for our surroundings, support our

community and shape a more responsible future for hospitality in Kuwait.”

The certification follows a comprehensive assessment of the Hotel’s environmental management and operating practices, including energy and water conservation, waste reduction, responsible purchasing and team engagement.

Led by the Hotel’s Engineering team and supported by colleagues across all departments, these efforts include AI-enhanced food-waste management, on-site water bottling, the continued elimination of single-use plastics, energy and water monitoring systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.

“Green Key certification requires continuous attention, measurement and collaboration across the entire Hotel,” said Ali Al-Zain, Director of

Engineering at Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya. “This achievement reflects the discipline of our teams and their commitment to turning environmental objectives into meaningful and measurable action every day.”

The renewed Green Key certification complements the Hotel’s wider sustainability credentials, including LEED Platinum certification and Forbes Verified Responsible Hospitality, reflecting an approach in which thoughtful luxury and environmental responsibility progress together.

Luxury, apparently, has learned to whisper. Beige cashmere, unmarked handbags, immaculate tailoring, pale interiors, discreet watches. Nothing too colorful, nothing too decorative, and certainly nothing that tries too hard to be noticed. Quiet luxury has spent the past few years convincing us that sophistication is found in restraint, and that the less something announces itself, the more tasteful it must be.

But whose definition of taste are we using?

For a region with a visual heritage built on pattern, ornament, craftsmanship, color, and abundance, the elevation of quiet luxury as the ultimate expression of sophistication feels strangely at odds with our own cultural history.

Our luxury has rarely been quiet.

Against that backdrop, the idea that refinement must be stripped of visible detail begins to feel less universal and more like one particular cultural preference being presented as objective good taste.

Beige Is Not a Neutral Idea Quiet luxury did not invent minimalism, nor is there anything wrong with loving a beautifully simple room or an impeccably tailored coat. The problem begins when one aesthetic becomes shorthand for sophistication itself.

Craftsmanship Was Luxury Before It Became a Trend Ironically, quiet luxury celebrates many ideas our region has valued for centuries: quality materials, skilled workmanship, longevity, and objects made to last.

We do not need to reject those values. We need to reclaim them.

Craftsmanship does not require aesthetic silence. A hand-embroidered textile can represent hundreds of hours of skilled labor while being gloriously colorful. An intricately carved door can demonstrate extraordinary workmanship precisely because you can see the work. A piece of jewelry can be both valuable and unapologetically ornamental.

Perhaps true luxury is not about whether craftsmanship is visible. Perhaps it is about whether craftsmanship exists at all.

Take Up Visual Space None of this means every Arab home should be maximalist or everyone should dress traditionally.

Culture stays alive by evolving.

5 WAYS TO FEEL MORE CONFIDENT THIS WEEK

Confidence is not something you either have or you don’t. Small changes in how you act, speak, and show up can help you build more of it.

We tend to imagine confident people as naturally different from the rest of us. They walk into rooms without second-guessing themselves, speak without rehearsing every sentence, and somehow never spend the journey home analyzing something slightly awkward they said three hours earlier.

Choose one thing you have been postponing because you are waiting to feel more certain. Then do it while uncertainty is still there.

Confidence is not believing you will always succeed. It is trusting that you can handle yourself when you don’t.

The Truman Show (1998) Truman Burbank has a nice house, a stable job, friendly neighbors, and a seemingly perfect life.

There is just one problem. None of it is real.

Released in 1998, before social media, influencers, livestreaming, and the normalization of broadcasting everyday life, The Truman Show now feels almost unnervingly prescient.

Jim Carrey plays a man unknowingly living inside a television show while everyone around him performs for an audience he does not know exists. What begins as clever satire becomes an exploration of free will, surveillance, authenticity, and what happens when comfort becomes a cage.

You will never look at product placement the same way again.

Memento (2000) Leonard Shelby cannot form new long-term memories. He knows who he was before his injury, but recent events disappear from his mind within minutes.

He is also trying to solve a murder.

Christopher Nolan turns that premise into a storytelling experiment by presenting much of the film in reverse chronological order, placing the viewer in something resembling Leonard’s own uncertainty. You know what is happening, but not necessarily what happened before it.

Every new piece of information changes your understanding of what you have already seen.

It is the kind of movie that makes a second viewing feel less like a rewatch and more like part two.

These films do not hand you every answer, and that is precisely the fun. They leave gaps for interpretation, questions for the drive home, and ideas that resurface days later when you are supposed to be thinking about something else.

WHY YOU SHOULD HATE-READ BOOKS

Sometimes the book you cannot stand has more to teach you than the one you loved.

Life is too short to read bad books. At least, that is what we have been told.

There is something wonderfully liberating about abandoning a novel 60 pages in because you cannot tolerate the protagonist for another moment. The DNF pile exists for a reason, and nobody is handing out medals for finishing books you hate.

But occasionally, keep going.

Hate-reading, the peculiar experience of continuing a book precisely because it is driving you mad, can be surprisingly rewarding. You roll your eyes. You complain to friends. You take photographs of particularly offensive paragraphs and send them to the group chat. And somehow, you cannot stop reading.

This is not wasted reading time. You may actually be developing better taste.

Hating Something Requires an Opinion It is easy to say a book is “not for me.” It is much more interesting to figure out why.

Do you hate the prose? Is the dialogue unbelievable? Does the protagonist make decisions no functioning human would make? Is the plot predictable, or are you irritated because the author refused to give you the ending you wanted?

Dislike becomes useful when you interrogate it.

The same applies to almost every creative field. Knowing what you dislike, and being able to articulate why, helps define what you value.

A terrible reading experience can reveal your preferences with surprising precision.

Congratulations. You hated the book, but you learned something about yourself.

You Might Be Wrong There is another, considerably more irritating possibility: the book might be good.

Sometimes discomfort is intentional. An unlikeable narrator may be unlikeable for a reason. The pacing you initially found frustrating may reveal its purpose later. A writing style that feels unfamiliar may simply require adjustment.

Literary critic Harold Bloom wrote that reading well involves being open to works that challenge our expectations rather than merely confirming them. Great books do not always make themselves immediately agreeable.

Occasionally, the novel you spent 200 pages arguing with becomes the one you are still thinking about six months later.

That does not mean you secretly loved it.

It might mean the book did something more interesting than please you.

It Gets You Out of the Algorithm Recommendation algorithms are exceptionally good at giving us more of what we already like.

Complaining Is Half the Fun There is a deeply social pleasure in reading a terrible book with someone else.

Start a hate-read book club. Pick something divisive. Agree to finish it. Meet afterward with snacks and grievances.

Unlike a universally beloved novel, where everyone spends twenty minutes agreeing that it was beautiful, a polarizing book gives you something to discuss.

Defend the character everyone hates. Argue about the ending. Read out the line that nearly made you throw the book across the room.

Reading does not always need to be reverent.

Sometimes books are entertainment, and sometimes the entertainment is complaining about the book.

But Know When to Quit Not every bad book deserves 400 pages of your life.

If you are bored rather than irritated, leave.

If reading has become homework, move on.

Hate-reading only works when the dislike itself is entertaining or when the book is provoking enough thought to keep you curious.

The goal is not suffering for literature.

It is occasionally resisting the impulse to consume only things perfectly calibrated to please you.

So next time a book annoys you, give it another chapter before returning it to the shelf.

You may discover hidden brilliance. You may sharpen your own opinions.

Or you may finish all 350 pages and confirm that you were absolutely right from the beginning.

TOYOTA RACING has once again proven why it remains one of endurance racing’s greatest forces, securing its sixth victory at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans during the third round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries guided the No. 7 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar to a memorable victory after completing 381 gruelling laps in a race time of 24:03:01.030. Their winning margin of just 10.913 seconds highlighted the intensity of one of the closest editions of Le Mans in recent years.

Teammates Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa completed an exceptional weekend for TOYOTA RACING by finishing third in the No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar, crossing the line after the same 381 laps in 24:03:21.447 to secure a coveted double podium finish.

The result marks another milestone in Toyota’s remarkable endurance racing legacy, built on more than six decades of motorsport innovation and competition.

Reflecting on the hard-earned victory, Kamui Kobayashi, Team Principal and driver of the No. 7 car, said: “It was very challenging for us, but we never gave up. Vehicle No. 7 has had a lot of second places at Le Mans but finally we got our second win. We have waited so long for this victory and it feels amazing. The whole week was not easy, including the race which was not smooth. We had a puncture early and that made it tough for us.

But Mike, Nyck, our engineers and our pit crew did a great job. It was an incredible day. Thank you to everyone who made it happen, including all the fans who make this such a special event.”

A crowd of 350,105 spectators witnessed a race defined by strategy, resilience and relentless pace. After modest qualifying positions in

Hyperpole, both Toyota crews gained valuable ground through an aggressive fuel strategy that allowed them to challenge the frontrunners early in the race.

The No. 7 crew recovered impressively from an early puncture before steadily climbing through the field, posting a fastest lap of 3:25.155 along the way. Meanwhile, the No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid Electric Hypercar led during the opening stages before overcoming several setbacks to remain in podium contention, ultimately recording the team’s quickest lap of the race with a 3:25.041.

The decisive moment came when a late safety car with fewer than six hours remaining compressed the field, setting up a dramatic sprint to the finish. A series of bold overtakes propelled both Toyota Hypercars into a one-two formation

with three hours remaining, before Conway, Kobayashi and de Vries held their nerve to deliver a landmark victory. Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa rounded out an outstanding team performance by securing third place, reinforcing Toyota’s reputation for consistency under pressure.

The result extends TOYOTA RACING’s lead in the FIA World Endurance Championship manufacturers’ standings to 36 points, while Conway, Kobayashi and de Vries move to the top of the drivers’ championship heading into the next round.

Toyota’s philosophy that “roads build people and cars” continues to shape its approach to motorsport. The lessons learned under the extreme demands of endurance racing directly influence the development of ever-better road cars, with the FIA World Endurance Championship serving as one of the brand’s most important proving grounds for hybrid technology, performance and reliability.
