On March 18, 1996, Anny Garcia, a member of the class of 1996, passed away. Anny’s life and death has touched many people’s lives

Fresbwoman: Well, you see, I am a brand new ninth-grader this year and sometimes I just feel like I’m on the very last rung of the High School Ladder. It’s hard to begin at the bottom and slowly work your way up.

Wilson: Well, neighbor, I agree that starting new is never an easy thing to do. But did you know that the Native Pygmies of West Coral Salimander Sea hold their ninth-graders in very high regard? They let them wear crowns just like the seniors, so that they will be prepared to accept the responsibility of being seniors some day. The freshwomen there are taught this promising chant, “Haia- Waia- Hooly- Goola- Frooca.” Translated, this phrase means, “My only hope is that one day, I, too, will be a senior.

The Class of 1998 is one step closer to becoming upperclasswomen. This year they had the long awaited “semi” held in the gym. They experience, for the first time, the excitement of choosing colors and a theme, and getting dressed up for the important event. Towards the end of the year, they purchase their class rings. Before they know it, this very spirited class will be “moving on up.”

As the Class of 1997 enters their Junior Year, they are excited to finally become upperclasswomen. They consider this to be thei best year because they are looked up to by underclasswomen, but don’t yet have to deal with the stresses that will come with Senio year. This year, they celebrate the Junior Ring Ceremony, with their theme being the “Circle of Life”. This ceremony symbolizes thei unity as a class and the friendships chat have formed along the way. They are also able to attend their first formal dance, the Crysta Ball, followed by thejunior Prom in May. Juniors also enjoy the "on campus” privilege, which frees them from those dreaded assigned silent studies.

The Sophomore Semi-Formal is an important moment in every girl’s life, as it was on April 8, 1994. Dress shopping may begin as early as December, and by sometime in mid-March, we ask our dates. Those of us who aren’t lucky enough to have dates who can drive are faced with a big decision. Do we save our money and rent a limousine, or do we have to swallow our pride and let our parents drive? Either way, it is a night to remember. The girls who attended in 1994 had a wonderful night, and will always remember it when they see the colors cranberry and cream .... or hear the song “When She Danced”.

Due to an unexpected storm, the Crystal Ball was held on Sun­ day, January 14, 1996 instead of on the twelfth. Despite the set­ back, everyone that came had a wonderful time. After the all-im­ portant pictures were taken, there was dinner followed by plenty of dancing. It was an unforgettable night filled with many special memories.

The Mercy Day Liturgy was held in September. Mercy Day is the fea of Our Lady of Mercy and the feast day of the Sisters of Mercy. It wj a very special celebration this year because Bishop Mulvee made his fir visit to Bay View. After the assembly, he was available in the cafeter to talk and he also visited classes. As a token of appreciation, Bishc Mulvee received a book about Catherine McAuley from Sister Maureei so that he can become more familiar with the Sisters of Mercy and the mission. He also received some Bay View attire from members of d Student Council.

Fewcomer’s Welcome is the best way to start off the new school It is a pep rally which says a special “hello’’ to the freshman 7 th graders, while proving which class truly has the most spirit, s year the spirit began with the sale of pom-poms, each in a srent class color. In the beginning it was undecided who would , but in the end all the pom-poms were sold out, proving that all have spirit. Yet on the day of, it was proven that it was the iors who rule the school. There was great food, music and ipetitions. It was a time that we came together as a class, and been tradition for many years.

The Father-Daughter Dance is a great opportunity to say thank you to our dads and have fun at the same time. The dance is held at the Rocky Point Palladium in the Spring. There is a special bond between fathers and daughters which exists throughout our life­ times. At the dance we have a chance to celebrate and strengthen this bond through laughing and dancing the night away. Dads can do the Electric Slide tool!

I The Black History Month Committee was established in 1991 I' a group of determined freshmen. Hurt by the abundance of cial slurs being projected by their peers, they set forth attemptg to educate the Bay View Community about the African merican Culture.

This group works year round to produce an assembly during the onth of February. The 1995 Assembly was dedicated to African 'merican leaders. In addition to presentations about Bill Cosby lid Lenna Horne, there was a step show and a dance tribute to ebbie Allen. The assembly educated the community about this |iique culture.

Cabaret is the biggest fund raiser of the year. It is also one of the mos fun-filled times of the year. A lot of time and preparation go into thi extravaganza and the outcome always leaves the viewer speechless am wanting more. Without our beloved Mrs. Kavanagh and Miss Gualtier none of the excitement would be possible and we thank them for that “Follow Your Dreams” was a very special show. The show had a ver important lesson to be learned. God is with you no matter what and witl God on your side, you can be anything you want to be. With this in mind.

Community Classroom is a requirement that each senior must fulfill before she graduates. Every Wednesday the seniors enter the workforce to explore the vast opportunities available to young women after school. They go to various places such as courthouses, hospitals, grade schools, business firms, and the state house. They experience what it is like to work in a particular field. By the end of the program, which lasts about four months, you have a good idea whether or not you want to pursue that career. It is a productive and worthwhile adventure into the real world.

Being inducted into the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors one can achieve at Bay View.

Aside from demonstrating social leadership qualities, these students need to have shown academic leadership qualities as well. By the middle of their Junior year, a ceremony takes place to acknowledge their achievements. The officers are named and each girl takes their oath.

The Student Council Installation is one of the most interesting assemblies that takes place at the school. The new leaders of the school are presented to the students, and they are given a symbol of their office as Student Council works very hard to pull this event together. The soccer team’s 1995 fall season was one of the best ones in many years. With their new head coach and assistant coach, the team made tremendous progress since last season. The captains led the team with great satisfaction.

Three girls from the team made All Division.

The team made it to the play-offs with great determination and spirit. However, the team suffered a loss in the semi-finals against Ponaganssett. Overall, the team had a fantastic year and can’t wait to get started once again for the 1996 season. Good Job and Good Luck!

The tennis team did very well this past fall season. Coach Tony Cunha led them to nine wins and only six losses. Captains Becky Henriques and Melanie McGair were extremely supportive and proud of the team’s efforts. The most important fact to remember is that the tennis team was made up of many underclasswomen.

They were very strong in proving their skills, and their hard work paid off. The tennis team accomplished more than any past team in Bay View history. They made it all the way to the semi-finals, and hope to next year go even further by making it to the finals.

With three, young, new coaches the softball team, made a really good go at it. They ended their season in the first round of the playoffs. The Multi-Cultural Club is a group of concerned women who are deter­ mined to make a difference in the world. They strive to make people aware of different cultures and groups of people throughout the world. One of their many goals is to teach people to appreciate the values and traditions of other societies and peoples. They see the gifts that other cultures bring to our lives and want to help others realize how special these gifts are, too.

I

Mock Trial is a wonderful activity for aspiring lawyers. Students take part in tournaments in which they take turns playing the roles of the prosecution and the defense. They then act out a very real trial in which lawyers try the case and there are witnesses and everything. This year the topic of the season was drunk driving and its tragic effects on soci­ ety. The girls have done very well in years past; let’s continue the good work.

Model Legislature is an event in which students get to play the role of a congresswoman. The girls make up bills and prepare arguments to back their bills. Towards the end of March, the girls get to go to the State House and “Wear the shoes of a Senator” for the day. They propose their bill, sell it and argue about it for awhile. Then they vote and the bills that pass be­ come Model Leg. Law. Mrs. Morel is the leader of the group. Just call her Ms. President.

Grades, as well as char­ acter, leadership, and service arc all qualifications for induction into the Society. These students voted on a charity, House of Little Flower, and hope to give all money made through fundraisers to this organization. They give their time to tutor other students through the Peer Tutoring Program and they also serve door duty for Sister Michelle.

SADD stands for Stu­ dents Against Drunk Driv­ ing. The SADD club is a group of caring students who actively take a stand to convince other students not to drink and drive. Drunk driving is the number one cause of motor accidents.

SADD club members work to change that. They offer solutions such as the desig­ nated driver method and other helpful ways to de­ crease the needless deaths of so many people every year due to the recklessness of drunk driving.

On class day it is the custom for Sister Maureen to acknowledge a few people from the senior class. For the past few years this numb has been small, this year for some reason it is larger. For the girls who started here at Bay View in kindergarten or first grade, it b been a tough time. They have watched their class of thirty-five dwindle down into eleven. Although eleven is a big number, to the gi , who have been here it is small. For some reason everybody has left, except these eleven survivors. For the past twelve or thirteen yea they have seen many teachers come and go and have memorized each building. They have been here longer than most teachers ha\ This year is a hard year for them, they have to say goodbye to friends they have had for more than a decade. Come September, th won’t be running to each other in the halls, instead they will be calling each other cross-country. To these special seniors, never foQ what you have gone through together, although you may not have been close, a special bond ties you. So to Brooke, Carolyn, Christit Emily, Karen, Kristina, Nicole, Sarah, Sara, Stephanie, and Tara never forget the bond you have and the good times you have share
