Ensuring the School’s Future

Chip Howalt ’85 knows that we all have a limited amount of time and treasure, and he gives us all a great example of how to be generous with both.

Currently on the Board of Trustees, Chip played a big part in the success of the Forever Forward capital campaign in 2018, and he has enjoyed seeing twin sons, Beau and Joe, diving into their own Baylor experience as members of the class of 2025. But his work as co-chair of the 2021Celebrations! Auction tops the list of his volunteer endeavors at Baylor.

“It was a lot of work and a huge time commitment, but the benefits of working with the folks in the advancement office made it a labor of love,” smiles Chip. “They pour their lives into Baylor passionately every day, and seeing that energy is invigorating and contagious. Working with co-chairs Jenny Yates Stickley ’90 and Allison Edgmon Cromie ’90 was wonderful, and it was rewarding to see that work culminate in the kind of evening we had. Baylor leads in so many areas and we really showed our leadership at that event.”

In addition to donations of time, Chip and his wife, Cindy, remain motivated to give to The Baylor Fund. “Second to my marriage and my family, my time at Baylor was the best life experience I’ve had. It was life-altering, and it’s important for me to give back,” says Chip, while quickly pointing out how essential it is to the operating budget of the school. “Many may think that The Baylor Fund is for ‘extras,’ but it’s not. It’s paying salaries, paying for programs, and making sure that Baylor students enjoy the same kind of experience that I had. Capital campaigns and putting names on buildings is fun and exciting and important, but it’s critical to keep in mind that The Baylor Fund and the endowment are what maintain affordable tuition, provide financial aid, and ensure the future of the school.”
