A FAMILY LEGACY OF GIVING BACK Brothers WYATT HOGUE ’90, JASON HOGUE ’93, and BRYAN HOGUE ’95 each lived their own Baylor story. This spring, they added another chapter as all three watched their sons, BOWEN, JAMES, and BRETT, cross the commencement stage as members of the Class of 2026. Together, the brothers have had seven children attend Baylor, a testament to the enduring impact the school has had across generations. Together, the brothers have had seven children attend Baylor, including HADDIE ’21, EMERSON ’24, FISCHER ’24, and LILLIAN ’28—a testament to the enduring impact the school has had across generations. “The people are our strongest memories of Baylor,” they reflect. “Baylor creates challenges that we all went through together. The result is more than learning from the challenge, it’s developing bonds with classmates and teachers through shared experiences that last forever.” That appreciation has inspired the Hogue family to invest in Baylor’s future. Through both personal philanthropy and the ongoing partnership with Adams Lithography, the family supports the school in meaningful ways, donating printing services and materials while also contributing financially to ensure future generations of students have access to the same transformative experience. Their generosity is rooted in a deep belief in Baylor’s mission to develop not only capable students, but honorable people. Among the many values Baylor instills, one stands above the rest. “Honesty creates respect,” they say. “When you’re faced with difficult times, honesty reveals a person’s true character.” The Hogue family also believes that philanthropy strengthens more than an institution—it strengthens the entire Baylor community. “Philanthropy helps build a community by keeping people engaged and involved. When people stay connected and participate, the community thrives.” That sense of connection extends beyond financial support. The family sees every gift—whether of time, expertise, or resources—as a way of giving back to a place that has given so much to them. “We’ve loved sending all of our kids to Baylor. PRESERVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR GENERATIONS Long before he enrolled as a student, DR. JIM MCDANIEL ’66 was making memories on Baylor’s campus. Nearly seven decades later, his connection to the school continues to inspire his support of The Baylor Fund. In 1956, his mother, BETTY MCDANIEL, became assistant director of Baylor Play Camp, working alongside STAN LEWIS. He attended Play Camp as a child before serving as a counselor from eighth grade through his graduation from Baylor in 1966. “Working with children all those years influenced my career choice as an orthodontist,” he said. “I realized I could make a difference in people’s lives.” Baylor’s faculty also left a lasting impression. “Numerous teachers influenced my life at Baylor, including MAJOR [LUKE] WORSHAM, STAN LEWIS, JACK STANFORD, BILL CUSHMAN ’59, and JAMES PENNINGTON, to name a few. I’ll always remember Mr. Pennington’s entertaining Latin classes.” Today, Baylor’s impact spans four generations of his family. His sons, ANDY ’94 and GRAHAM ’01, are alumni, and his grandsons, OWEN ’23 and WYATT ’26, have each experienced Baylor for themselves. “I am so happy and proud that both my sons and our two grandsons were able to share the ‘Baylor Experience’ with me,” he said. “I was the recipient of generous financial assistance when I was a student at Baylor,” he added, “and I would like other families to be afforded the same opportunity to send their children. Tuition alone does not cover the cost of a Baylor education, so donor giving is essential to providing the extras that make Baylor so special.” McDaniel emphasized that supporting The Baylor Fund helps preserve the opportunities that have influenced generations of his own family while opening those doors for others. “If you or your children had a great experience at Baylor as I did and want others to have a similar experience, then give to The Baylor Fund. A TRADITION OF GENEROSITY While looking for a year-round swim program for their daughter, CAITLIN ’24, CANDICE and CHRIS COLEMAN heard about Baylor from friends in Bermuda and decided to take a closer look. “As we learned more, we were attracted to the balance of strong academics and athletics, the emphasis on teamwork and school spirit, the values of character, accountability, and personal responsibility, and the respect for others that the school reinforces,” said Chris. “The campus is stunning, but it was really the people who stood out. Everyone was so welcoming, and it immediately felt like a place where our children would thrive,” added Candice. After Caitlin enrolled, her younger brother, TYLER ’26, followed one year later. Caitlin traded swimming for lacrosse, while Tyler found his place on the soccer field. “Our children loved being part of a community that encouraged them to get involved in so many different ways,” said Candice. “The balance was incredible.” An unexpected and meaningful outcome of their Baylor experience was the connection their entire family developed with Chattanooga. “We initially came to the area because of the school, but over time we enjoyed the Baylor and wider Chattanooga communities so much that we purchased a home in the area,” said Chris. “Baylor gave our children the opportunity to grow in a challenging but supportive environment, and it gave our family a community that has meant far more to us than we could have anticipated when we first began looking at schools.” The Colemans believe supporting The Baylor Fund is an expression of gratitude and an investment in ensuring future families experience the same opportunities that meant so much to them. “Our children benefited from the generosity of families who supported Baylor before us. It feels important to participate in that same tradition and help sustain the experience for current and future students,” said Chris. “For us, it is not simply about supporting the institution. It is about supporting the teachers, coaches, programs, residential life, and broader community that played such an important role in our children’s development.”

PHILLIPS FAMILY GIVING BACK FROM AFAR
For HANNAH KILBRIDE PHILLIPS ’10, supporting The Baylor Fund means ensuring that today’s students have access to the same extraordinary experiences that helped shape her own life. “The Baylor Fund bridges the gap between tuition and excellence,” she says. “That bridge is what sets Baylor apart from other institutions. It’s not just a high school. For so many of us it’s where passions are discovered and experiences broadened, and so much of that is possible because of The Baylor Fund.” Among her favorite Baylor memories is the Walkabout program. She also remembers classmates participating in community service trips around the world, friends competing in world-class athletic facilities, and teachers whose influence left a lasting impression on her. “The fact that I learned how to roll a kayak on my high school campus is not the norm! The programs offered at Baylor really are next level,” she adds. Looking back, Phillips says she always loved her time as a student, but it wasn’t until after graduation that she fully appreciated the opportunities that were available to her. Today, she enjoys flipping through Baylor magazines with her husband, Connor, a native Texan who had never heard of the school before they met. “It’s really fun to show off the incredible programs and initiatives, and so many students and alumni are prime examples of the school’s excellence. I feel so lucky that Baylor is one of the places that built me.” Philanthropy has been a shared priority since the beginning of her relationship with Connor. While they actively support organizations in their hometown, contributing to The Baylor Fund allows her to invest in the community that invested in her. “The Baylor Fund was the obvious answer on how I can give back from afar. I was able to experience the benefits of the generations before me who donated to The Baylor Fund, and now it’s my turn.” She also hopes other young alumni realize they don’t have to wait until later in life to make an impact. “I am a procrastinator myself, but there’s really never a good reason to put off what’s important to you,” she says. “And no donation is too small. I used to think giving meant you had to have your name on a building somewhere, but in reality, it all adds up.”

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR STRONGEST MEMORIES OR EXPERIENCES WITH BAYLOR? Working with master teachers such as JIM STOVER and HEATHER OTT, who were not only mentors but good friends. They modeled expertise and care, which I came to accept as the standard for professionalism. Among the vast array of memories are going on two senior trips when it rained every day, but the seniors still having so much fun, teaching in the Trustee basement for 23 years, and handing diplomas to my daughters at their graduations. WHY IS GIVING BACK IMPORTANT TO YOU PERSONALLY? Baylor has been a part of my existence for over half of my life. In many ways, the school has made me who I am (it’s the only full-time job I’ve ever had). I’ve driven through those gates countless times since 1994, always knowing that I’m entering a special place where people care about me and I can make each day worthwhile by making other people’s lives better. WHAT ASPECTS OF BAYLOR’S MISSION/VALUES RESONATE MOST DEEPLY WITH YOU? The desire to have an impact not only on campus but around the world. Having accompanied students on trips to India and Italy, as well as having traveled to China, Cuba, Scotland, South Africa courtesy of the Faculty Global Study Grant, has made me a more informed teacher. In turn, I have utilized my experiences to inspire my students to appreciate the wider world. HOW DO YOU HOPE YOUR PHILANTHROPY WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE? I’m a firm believer in the value of consistency because it’s one way of practicing discipline, a predictor of success in any endeavor. By devoting a bit of my paycheck each month, I hope to contribute to some of the little things that facilitate the complexity and intricacy of an excellent educational institution like Baylor. First, I want every Baylor student to find a kind and supportive community, one that helps them find a passion, explore it, and thrive. Also, the Baylor experience should be one that is life-changing because it’s unique, memorable, and somewhat magical. Finally, I hope that students learn the skills necessary to be both great thinkers and noble doers. WHAT ROLE DO YOU BELIEVE PHILANTHROPY PLAYS IN STRENGTHENING A COMMUNITY? In order for the school to meet its obligations as an elite preparatory school, it needs support from everyone who believes in the mission. Baylor’s influence on the community, whether locally, nationally, and internationally, is significant, something I’ve come to appreciate after having had the privilege of teaching so many accomplished artists, doctors, engineers, teachers, and business people.
