Graduate School The Graduate School is Baylor University’s central administrative office serving over 3,000 students in more than a hundred academic programs across the humanities, arts, and sciences. We oversee admissions and enrollment management for our graduate programs, provide professional development opportunities for students, organize outstanding graduate student research and teaching, and confer nearly a thousand graduate degrees per year. Roughly 80% of students study full-time, and nearly 50% are pursuing doctoral degrees. Graduate students play a key role in Baylor’s research and scholarship, producing roughly 800 professional presentations and over 600 research articles per year. Over 100 research doctorates are awarded each year. More than 95% of doctoral graduates work full-time in an array of academic, research, and professional settings. WHY CHOOSE

Baylor University? GENEROUS FINANCIAL SUPPORT Nearly all incoming Ph.D. students receive full tuition remission, a 50% subsidy in general student fees (starting fall 2020), a multiyear research or teaching assistantship, annual travel funding, and an 80% subsidy for student health insurance. Stipend levels are highly competitive, and with Waco’s low cost of living, roughly two-thirds of Ph.D. graduates accrue no student loan debt during their doctoral program. Masters programs offer varying levels of support, ranging from a partial tuition waiver to full tuition remission with a stipend. Please contact your program of interest for details. Professional programs typically do not provide funding support.

STRONG RESEARCH SUPPORT Graduate students are a key part of Baylor’s scholarly and research community, producing nearly 800 professional presentations and over 600 research articles per year. Their work is supported by a wide range of programs and opportunities within their departments and across campus. The Graduate School provides generous travel grants to help students present at professional conferences and conduct dissertation research. Baylor’s Graduate Research Center offers a place within our central libraries specifically designed for graduate students. Our Graduate Writing Center and Dissertation Writing Lab help with the variety of writing tasks students undertake. COMMITTED PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT Baylor alumni pursue a wide range of careers. More than 50% of PhD graduates over the past five years are in full-time faculty roles, with another 20% in post-doctoral positions. The remaining 30% serve full-time in industry, government, K-12 education, clinical practice, and the social sector. The Graduate School’s professional development programs meet this variety by helping students prepare for a wide range of career paths. Our PROFF and TeaCHE programs assist those planning for an academic career. We collaborate with our Office of Career and Professional Development to help those pursuing work outside the academy. For international students who are non-native English speakers, we coordinate with Baylor’s Center for Global Engagement to provide English language support.

Baylor’s Department of English offers training in all major historical periods, focusing on literary aesthetics and criticism. The area of Literature and Religion is a historical and ongoing strength of the graduate program. We divide our research and courses into three main categories: Literature, Linguistics, and Professional Writing and Rhetoric. Journalism students work alongside faculty to design a rigorous program that meets their own goals within areas of degree concentration such as News-Editorial, Public Relations, Advertising and Photojournalism. Many students have completed internships in Europe, South America, Canada, Asia and Africa with news, public relations, government and faithbased organizations. American Studies faculty members and students approach American culture from many directions but have in common the desire to view America as a whole rather than from the perspective of a single discipline. The goal of the American Studies faculty is to shape graduate student studies around American culture, ultimately allowing students to choose their own interdisciplinary path within the university setting. Baylor’s Department of Museum Studies focuses on the history and philosophy of different types of museums and the different skills that are needed in museum administration, museum education, collections management and care, archival management, and exhibit design. This high impact learning environment includes field trips to major museums in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Waco. Students are given the opportunity to apply and test their knowledge in the real world through work at the Mayborn Museum Complex and other museums and special collections libraries on the Baylor campus. Known for the unusually collegial relationships within its graduate student community and its commitment to the Christian tradition, Baylor’s Department of Philosophy prides itself on the teaching excellence of the faculty and the individual attention that students receive. Baylor’s Physics Department offers students both experiential and theoretical research programs. Experimental research within the department focuses on atomic, molecular, nuclear, elementary particle, plasma, surface, and space physics. According to the Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of physical therapists is projected to grow 28 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. Baylor’s Occupational Therapy professional doctoral program is unique. An accelerated curriculum allows completion in two years. Baylor’s Physical Therapy program’s hybrid design offers blended learning that combines online learning interaction, hands-on laboratory sessions, and collaborative clinical education experiences. School of Business Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business has a visionary standard where integrity stands shoulder-to-shoulder with analytic and strategic strengths. The School’s top-ranked programs combine rigorous classroom learning, hands-on experience in the real world, a solid foundation in ethical values and a global outlook. Approximately 4,100 students and 300 faculty and staff comprise the School–that’s nearly 25% of Baylor’s total enrollment.
