here’s definitely more going on in Sacramento than lobbying. Our State Capital does offer more than a few fun events for your evening’s enjoyment, especially now that the Governator has left the building. If partying hearty is to your liking, check out Faces Nightclub, one of the Capital’s top nightclubs. Faces patrons can enjoy any one of three dance floors, a whopping 10 bars with 16 stations, and a VIP lounge, all with state of the art sound and video. Better bring your ID, because no one under 21 will be admitted. Be sure to to do your vocal exercises, because karaoke is big at Faces. Absolute Karaoke happens on Monday nights in the Middle Bar, while Tuesdays, Faces’ Latin night, offers Latin Karaoke in the front bar. Faces also presents a variety of rotating special events on Tuesdays, ranging from drag shows to singing contests. Unlike other bars, Faces also has a pool, with towels provided; it’s open on Sunday afternoons, as well on Sunday and Tuesday evenings. 2000 K Street in midtown Sacramento. www.Faces.net Faces’ neighbor, Badlands, a popular dance/video bar, is another great place to party when visiting Arnold’s former cruising grounds. Located at 2003 K Street, Badlands offers live and DJed music, laser light shows, and dancing until the wee hours of the night. Regular events at Badlands include Sunday Tea Dance & Beer Busts, FAG Fridays (Fabulous and Gay!) and Tipsy Thursday, with some very lively and scantily clad go-go boys. www.SacBadlands.com Feeling manly? Leather-Cowboy-Bear bar, hosts weekly events like pool and darts tournaments, pizza and nachos, drink specials and TV show-viewing nights. At their sexy leather contests and fundraisers, shirtless nights, and special parties through the year, you’ll meet many a hunky Bay Area resident who’s also trekked inland for a night of fun. Mon-Fri 5pm2am, Sat & Sun 2pm-2am. 2560 Boxwood St. (916) 649-8420. www.sacbolt.com For gay-inclusive dancing, Club 21 boasts a variety of different themed nights, including Bojangles 18-and-over dance club on Sundays and Wednesdays, Swing Classes on Tuesdays, Latin Night Fridays and more. Mezkal, a gargantuan slice of delectable authenticity uprooted directly from Mexico proper, is the Restaurant located on the premises; the menu includes a variety of Mexican dishes. 1119 21st St. (916) 443-1537. www. club21sacramento.com The much smaller Depot bar, built inside a renovated house, is possibly still open. Sacramento gays also organize many social events, from sports nights to benefits. Outword, the venerable publication that primarily serves our brothers and sisters to the north, invites you to join them for Drag Queen Bingo. Outword editor Charles Peer tells BARtab that the popular event

launched on August 12, 2009. “To date, we’ve held 38 Drag Queen Bingos, and we’ve raised over $37,000,” Peer proudly stated. Charitable recipients have included many organizations that serve the Sacramento LGBT community. “The Bingo nights are hosted by Rusty Nails or Felicity Diamonds,” reports Peer. Gotta love those names. For those who prefer a more formal setting, check out Outword’s Supper Club Night. “The Supper Club is a newer venture for us,” says Peer. “Once a month or so, we team up with a local restaurant

to just have a night out at a great dinner spot with friends, usually designed with a specially designed menu for the evening.” Speaking of menus, if you’re hungry in between your nightclubbing, stop by Headhunters sports bar and grill, which attracts a gay and mixed clientele (Really, how gay is a chicken sandwich?). Weekends are great, as they’re open until 3am Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday brunch runs from 10:30am2:30pm with unlimited mimosas. $10. 1930 K St. (916) 492-2922. www.headhuntersonk.com ✸

Club 1220 offers a respite for Walnut Creek’s LGBT community, with a proud 33-year tradition of hosting fundraisers, dance nights, drag shows, sexy strip acts and toy drives for the Bay Area community.
