Snapshots, September 13 - 19 THE HAITIANS ARE COMING Haitian migrants seeking to escape poverty, hunger and a feeling of hopelessness in their home country said they will not be deterred by U.S. plans to speedily send them back, as thousands of people remained encamped on the Texas border Saturday after crossing from Mexico.

Scores of people waded back and forth across the Rio Grande on Saturday afternoon, re-entering Mexico to purchase water, food and diapers in Ciudad Acuña before returning to the Texas encampment under and near a bridge in the border city of Del Rio. The Department of Homeland Security said Saturday that it moved about 2,000 of the migrants from the camp to other locations Friday for processing and possible removal from the U.S. Its statement also said it would have 400 agents and officers in the area by Monday morning and would send more if necessary.
Joe Manchin Holds America Hostage He's just one U.S. senator from West Virginia, a state with less than 1.9 million residents, but the fate of 328 million Americans literally rests with Joe Manchin. The conservative Democrat, fearful of being re-elected in a Republican state and clinging to old-fashioned faith in bipartisanship, is holding up nation-changing legislation - namely, the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill and the voting rights bill - as the deciding vote in a 50-50 Senate. At last check Manchin is not even close to bending.
MAGA Wannabe Larry Elders Finds Lead In The Golden State Neanderthal radio talker Larry Elder had hoped to hit pay dirt in Tuesday's election to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom and install the Trumpist Republican in the deep blue state. It should come as no surprise that Elder lost 2-1 and dealt a huge blow to a movement hoping to make America sicker, poorer and more ignorant. Next up: elections for governor in Virginia and New Jersey on November 2. Things don't look any better for the GOP in those 2 states either. They aren't getting the message: the voters hate them.
