GOP effort to suppress the black vote isn't working
California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder
Larry Elder: Could This Black MAGA Become Next CA Gov? He is everything Trump voters love: a selfnegating black man, a bigot, a homophobe, anti-immigrant. This Fox News hack, who thinks social programs like Obamacare and Social Security are Commie plots, is posiiioned to be elected Governor of California, the most progressive of blue states, in about 2 weeks when a special election will be held to decide if Gov. Gavin Newsom should be recalled. His infraction: making Californians fight the COVID19 pandemic by locking down the state last year and wearing masks. We will know on September 14 if the voters will send America's most populous state back about 500 years.
The cynical idea was to drive down the black vote in Georgia in 2022 and beyond when Georgia Republicans passed the state's draconian voter suppression laws just after they lost the Peach State to Joe Biden, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff just months ago. You remember the ones, where they eliminated voting on Sunday and mail-in ballots, even making it a crime to give drinking water to voters waiting on line, and plans to rig the ballots in black precincts in such a way as to insure a GOP win. So what has been the response from Georgians? The figures released last week show that 95% of the state's voters are now registered. Even with the vote-rigging and Herschel Walker's cynical run for Senate against Warnock, it's still unlikely that Georgia will revert to its ugly Jim Crow past anytime soon.
GOP Beating Up On Kamala Again To Trump-worshipping Republican sycophants, Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman of color in that office, can do nothing right. They don't like her background as a Caribbean-Indian from liberal San Francisco, her career in law enforcement, her fairly moderate views, even her clothes and laugh - and, of course, her sex. The nonstop racism and sexism campaign has driven her poll numbers down. Now they criticize a pending trip to Vietnam as somehow kowtowing to Communists, forgetting that we normalized relations in 1991 and that country has become a magnet for Western tourism and capitalism.
