2026SHOW PREVIEW
A SECTOR-BY-SECTOR BREAKDOWN OF EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY AT THE SHOW
EARTHMOVING
JOHN DEERE’S MOST ADVANCED EXCAVATOR LINEUP EVER
John Deere is calling its new P-Tier machines the most technologically advanced excavators the company has ever brought to market. Starting with the 210, 230, and 260 P-Tier, all of which sit within the 20-metric-ton class, John Deere has incorporated new technology features and designed an operator experience that it says will make operators’ lives easier and improve skilled operator retention for contractors. Ahead of CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, John Deere previewed these machines at its proving grounds near Phoenix, Arizona.
Throughout product development, customers representing mass earthworks, residential construction, underground utility, agricultural, recreational habitat restoration, pipeline construction applications, and more put the P-Tier excavators through
their paces. These customers worked with John Deere to optimize the undercarriage, hydraulics, cab, and more, ensuring that these machines are ready for a hard day’s work and can withstand the most rugged conditions. The test customers noted that the power and speed is a big upgrade from previous models, as is the roomy new cab — now with over 27 inches of leg room.
Lifting capability, especially in sub-optimal conditions, such as at reach over the side of the machine, has been refined to ensure that craning heavy loads, such as jersey barriers, can be done safely and with confidence. EZ Control technology reduces inputs needed to control the boom, arm, and bucket making lifting operations safer and smoother, particularly when craning materials below
ground where the operator may lose line of sight. Travel over long distances also just got easier with these new machines. Joystick tracking allows the operator to move the machine in a straight line, in forward and reverse, without using the levers and pedals.
The new in-cab monitor is a substantial 12.8 inches and makes navigating machine functions and settings easy. The operator can quickly adjust camera views, whether in full or splitscreen. The number of advanced technology features available on the P-Tier machines is impressive, and the monitor serves as the central hub for harnessing their power.
• Attachment manager technology provides easy setup, calibration, and customizable settings for up to 20 attachments.
• SmartWeigh is a dynamic weighing tool that tracks the machine’s production and ensures that truck loads are optimized.
• A new auto laser catch feature, part of the new John Deere 2D grade control system, assists the operator in making it easier to catch the laser for vertical grade reference on the job site. The 2D grade control can also be easily upgraded to full 3D SmartGrade.
• Virtual fences help protect the machine and its surroundings with set defined job site limits using a combination of cameras and sensors. Avoidance alarms alert the operator when they get too close to obstacles.
The P-Tier excavators will be available for visitors to check out at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in the Silver Lot booth that John Deere will share with its Wirtgen Group brands. An innovation centre will walk attendees through job site technology solutions and the John Deere Operations Center.
In the West Hall, John Deere Power Systems will show a variety of power options, including E-Power solutions.
John Deere and the Wirtgen Group will be a presenting sponsor of Shop Talks and Walks, which will help customers review how to perform a quality daily walkaround via an interactive simulation.
On Tuesday, March 3 at 11 AM, Jahmy Hindman, senior vice president and chief technology officer at John Deere, will deliver the opening keynote of the show, “Never Idle: Tech Made Easy and Grounded in Purpose.” He will be joined on the Ground Breakers Stage by John Deere leaders Maryanne Graves and Jonny Spendlove to discuss the transformative role technology plays in addressing persistent challenges within the construction industry.

Volvo’s recent new excavator, articulated dump truck, and wheel loader series, as well as a new rigid hauler, soil and asphalt compactor, and electric models will be represented. Ahead of the show, Volvo has made several more equipment announcements — and promises that there are more surprises in store.
Volvo will debut the 60-ton A60 articulated dump truck.
This ADT delivers 15 percent better fuel efficiency and 5 percent higher productivity than its predecessor. Volvo says that the A60 is the largest 6x6 ADT in the industry, and its new all-Volvo powertrain includes a robust transmission and axles that enable full power to be used in all gears. Its active hydraulic front suspension enables fast hauling speeds while its automatic drive combinations (including 100 percent differential locks), all-terrain bogie, and hydro-mechanical steering deliver dependable stability and control. It features Volvo Dynamic Drive, a predictive gear selection function, and Terrain Memory, which identifies and remembers slippery road segments and proactively adjusts the differential locks to prevent wheel slip and preserve productivity in adverse conditions.
Volvo is introducing three new compact excavators. The 9-ton ECR90 is a short-swing excavator built to compete with larger models. Compared to its predecessor, the ECR88, it
offers more power, more pump torque, and greater bucket, digging, and tractive forces as well as a larger cab. The new 7-ton EC65 and EW65 (wheeled) models deliver 4 percent and 6 percent more engine power respectively, along with a 9 percent increase in boom lifting force, all of which lead to faster, more reliable operation. All three models have increased auxiliary hydraulic flow.
Volvo’s new short-swing excavator, the ECR255, is ideal for confined spaces and demanding environments, such as urban construction, utility, and infrastructure projects. The ECR255 replaces the previous generation’s ECR235E, and delivers a 7 percent increase in lifting capacity and a 10 percent reduction in fuel consumption.
The first wheeled models in Volvo’s latest excavator series are the EWR150 and EWR170. These medium-sized excavators offer increased lifting capacity and reach compared to the previous generation models. Volvo has reduced the front swing radii by nearly 2 feet, making these excavators even better for confined spaces. Wider lift cylinders give the updated excavators more lifting capacity over the front of the machine, while reach is extended by a longer twopiece boom. Both models can be customized with three different arm lengths, an outrigger or blade added to the front or rear, and an optional 9-foot-wide axle for additional stability when lifting over the side.

Steelwrist will hold live demonstrations throughout CONEXPO, giving visitors the opportunity to see the versatility of tiltrotators up close. During the 15 minute demo show, a real job situation will be simulated by the excavators and their skilled operators. The show will run every hour on the hour starting at 10 AM.
Two compact excavators with Steelwrist’s new automatic quick coupler solution, SQ40, on the X07 tiltrotator, will share the same set of work tools. SQ40 allows for quick changes of high-flow work tools on smaller excavators, providing the same efficiency as larger SQ couplers. This makes changing powered work tools easier and safer, as it can be done without leaving the cab.
A 14-ton short-swing excavator with a third-generation tiltrotator, the XTR15, with the Open-S-compliant SQ60 automatic coupler will also be demonstrated. The XTR15 is one of five models of the new third-generation tiltrotators from Steelwrist. Finally, an electric-powered compact excavator will be equipped with the smallest XTR2 tiltrotator, showing how Steelwrist solutions are also available for the smallest machine on the job site.
