In the news this week

Staff October’s civic election in North Battleford took an interesting turn this week as two-term mayor Ian Hamilton made the decision to not seek a third term at the helm. As of press time no other contenders for the job had come forward, although long-serving councillor Don Buglas has filed nomination papers in his bid to return

to the council table. Across the river in Battleford it has been known for several months that Derek Mahon will not be seeking re-election as mayor. To date no one has filed nomination papers for that position, nor has anyone filed for a seat on council. Deadline for nominations is Wednesday Sept. 21. The election is set for Wednesday, Oct. 26.
