Riverview residents recently spoke out against proposals to re-purpose buildings formerly occupied by Battlefords Trade and Education Centre. A microbrewery and tavern have been proposed for the century old armoury building, while another project would see the Vida Macdonald centre remodeled into apartments. Residents have voiced concern

about safety, increased traffic and impact on property values. At an open house Wednesday at Don Ross Centre, developers behind both projects invited residents of the neighbouhood to learn more. The men behind the micobrewery provided visual examples of other historic buildings re-purposed in this way. They say it is their desire to save the structure. For more tun to Page 3.

March Out Racism

Lori Nicotine, a member of Water is Life: Treat 6, the Battlefords, carries the flag for International Indigenous Unity March 21, to mark City Hall’s proclamation for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The initiative was organized through a partnership between Battlefords Immigration Resource Centre and the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan. Councillor Len Taylor attended as a representative of the City and read from Mayor Ryan Bater’s proclamation. For more turn to Page 8. Photo by Shannon Kovalsky
