Post office to reopen in new year By John Cairns Staff Reporter
Canada Post still has a way to go before they officially return to their old 22nd Street location in Battleford. There is still no concrete date for when Canada Post expects to reopen. While there had been hopes that it would open before Christmas, it will have to wait
for the new year as Canada Post is still in the process of getting things ready and in place at the 22nd Street location. “We are looking to returning our postal services to the building on 22nd Street and reopening our doors to customers in early 2018,” according to a statement from Phil Legault, media relations, Canada Post, to the News-Optimist.
According to Legault, the building’s owners Cassandra Germsheid and Jesse Crozier completed their renovations in the fall to the area Canada Post will be using. Canada Post is now working to “make the space operational again as a post office,” said Legault, refitting it with new equipment, retail counters, post office boxes, product, and so on, a
process that always takes a couple of months. Legault states Canada Post will have a better idea after Christmas as to timing for re-opening. Canada Post will communicate an opening date as they get closer to that time. In the meantime, Canada Post continues to operate from its temporary facilities off of 35th Street in Battleford.

A number of patrons gathered on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Tropical Inn for a Holiday Murder Mystery. Battlefords Community Players actors mingled with patrons, and the murderer was revealed near the end of the evening. Tropical Inn general manager Doris Binette said she thought a murder mystery at the hotel would work well after hosting one of her own at her house. During the evening, 70s costumes were encouraged.
