BATTLEFORD–A passion to help others led a former Battlefords couple to a life of missionary work in East Africa. Twyla and Ralph Williams visited the Battlefords Community Players Clubhouse in Battleford on Aug. 4 to share their experiences with family, friends and supporters. They moved to Tanzania 10 years ago to take up missionary work. “Friends of ours were going and were looking for experienced missionaries to go work with them,” said Twyla. “Ralph and I had been looking for some place to go because we really enjoy that kind of thing. I went home and I said, ‘Ralph,
let’s go to Tanzania.’ And he says, ‘Yes, Dear.” Today, Twyla and Ralph live among the Maasai people in Tanzania. For their humanitarian efforts, Twyla works with a ladies’ group who make jewelry using upcycled materials, and Ralph helps create rainwater harvesting systems to provide clean water to schools and clinics. Twyla sells the jewelry in Canada and the U.S. and the money goes back to the women in Tanzania who make the jewelry. Upcycled materials can be anything from foam from flipflops to the plastic lids from pop bottles. Before moving to Africa, Ralph used Continued on page 2

Police search for two suspects after assault, robbery in NB By SaskToday staff NORTH BATTLEFORD–Police are looking for two suspects following an assault and robbery in North Battleford. On July 22 at approximately 1:45 p.m., a person was sitting on a park bench in front of city hall in North Battleford when they were approached by a group of six individuals they did not know. The victim was assaulted and robbed of their personal belongings before the group fled the area. Investigators have identified and located four of the six suspects. Battlefords RCMP are still seeking to identify and locate two men believed to have been involved in the incident.
