This business organization was incorporated as the North Battleford Board of Trade in 1906 with H.W. Detwiller as the Charter President and R.R. Earle, the Commissioner. In 1956-57, the Board of Trade changed its designation to the North Battleford Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, Battleford joined with the City and the Chamber became known as the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce and has grown with the communities, supporting a membership of more than 375 business firms. The President is supported by a 20-member elected Board of Directors, the Executive Director and an Operations Staff to deal with the many, varied requests for business assistance from the local community and potential newcomers to the Battlefords. Chambers of Commerce are catalysts in their community, and the Battlefords Chamber is no different.The local organization has several key priorities to serve the needs of its member businesses. Some of the priorities include: Workforce, Economic and Community Development, Business Promotion and Education, and more. The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce is the “Voice” of business in the Battlefords. Battlefords Heritage Society Ensuring the preservation of our historic structures and properties

The Battlefords Heritage Society is comprised of a group of citizens from the Battlefords who believe in the critical importance of saving our communities’ historic and heritage structures and properties. The society intends to partner with both municipal governments and the citizens of the Battlefords in the task of preserving our built history for future generations.The following provides information on the Society’s executive committee, its advisors, purpose, operational strategies, and first projects: Members Richard W. Jane Shury (Executive Secretary), President and CEO, Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, currently heading a project to document the history of the Saskatchewan Hospital. Battlefords NorthWest Historical Society, the Battlefords Citizen of the Year, 2007, formerly with the Canadian Military (paratrooper, a member of the famed “Van Doos” regiment, commander of the Airborne Training Centre in Edmonton). Purpose to ensure the preservation of the Battlefords historic buildings and properties Operational Goals and Strategies 1) a) to work with the City of North Battleford, the Town of Battleford, and provincial government departments, to protect our historic buildings and properties; to lobby and act as critic if necessary b) to work with local, provincial and federal organizations and agencies who have an interest in preserving our history (Battlefords NorthWest Historic Society, for example) c) to gather data (especially policies on protecting/razing historic structures) from other city governments (Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, for example) d) with respect to (a), to research, write, present and negotiate a policy on identifying, securing, restoring, maintaining, and, in some cases, destroying our historic structures and sites e) to ensure the preservation of the historic buildings in the city’s downtown area in the wider context of contributing to the ideas and

planning related to the rebuilding of North Battleford’s downtown core. 2) to represent (not officially) the City, Town and respective publics to ensure that our history is protected. 3) to identify historic buildings in the Battlefords – addresses, owners, status, condition 4) to work to secure, restore (in some cases), maintain and use (lease, rent) historic buildings 5) to lobby for heritage status for our historic buildings that qualify 6) to engage the media as a means to promote the Battlefords Heritage Society’s cause and to publicize the Society’s successes and failures 7) to engage the public and solicit the public’s support with respect to saving the Battlefords, tangible history. 8) to gather support from organizations and agencies in the Battlefords (clubs, service organizations, agencies, boards, schools, etc. by means of speaking engagements, power point presentations, public lectures, guest speaking at schools and in other forums, etc.) 9) to negotiate with municipal authorities and owners of historic properties on matters related, variously, to their preservation, security, maintenance and use 10) to contribute to the education of students in the Battlefords’ schools with respect to our communities’ remarkable history 11) to promote the preservation of our history in general (promote and support authors, writers, government, municipal and private agencies that work to find, preserve and educate with respect to our local histories). 12) a) to solicit monies from federal, provincial and municipal agencies to further the aims of the Battlefords Heritage Society, and to fundraise for the same reason 13) to publish a regular Battlefords Heritage Society Newsletter 14) to write a series of articles on local history for the News Optimist (in progress) First Projects 1) establish an inventory of historic buildings in North Battleford Downtown Core 2) seek heritage status for a number of our iconic old buildings in the North Battleford downtown area and close by 3) Saskatchewan Hospital 4) determine status of old bridge Contact: President - Richard W. Destination Battlefords www.battlefords.ca Destination Battlefords is an innovative marketing organization with a mandate to promote the Battlefords as a Destination Area for tourists, new residents, businesses, and events.The organization is governed by a Board of Directors comprising the Battlefords Hotels Association, City of North Battleford,Town of Battleford, and industry members. The Historic Battleford Lions Club The Historic Battleford Lions Club (chartered in 1976) and the Battleford 2000 Lions Club (Chartered in 2000) amalgamated in 2014 and are now jointly called The Historic Battleford Lions Club. The Lions motto is “We Serve” Our club “serves” our community by supporting local people, projects and events and we feel that giving back to our community helps make our community a great place to live. Working in partnership with other Lions members is an invaluable and fun experience, fostering positive personal and professional relationships. We organize the Christmas Bazaar, held the first Saturday of December, and the “We’ve got you covered” Community Garage Sale, held the first Saturday in May, as well as numerous other activities. This year, we will be organizing an event in conjunction with the International Street Performer Festival in July and also organizing “The Operun” in October to raise funds for the Opera House in Battleford. Funds raised are dedicated to specific projects or are distributed to local people, projects and events throughout the year. We also support organizations that deal with diabetes, sight, the elderly youth, culture, sports and recreation. As Lions, we support project Pride and Lions Dog Guides and other events sponsored by Lions International and the Lions Foundation of Canada. We also “serve” by volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program, by volunteering to host a birthday party at Battlefords District Care Centre, by planting trees in our community and in many other ways. Ionic Lodge No. 31 A.F. and A.M. Ionic Lodge No. 31 was instituted in North Battleford in December of 1906. The Philanthropy of the Masonic Order is Youth. Ionic Lodge provides an award to the Musical Festival in Speech Arts.We also sponsor a young boy or girl to the provincial leadership youth program, which promotes to improve leadership skills. The Masonic Youth Trust Fund provides scholarships to students to further their education.

K-40 Club of North Battleford Membership in K-40 consists of former Kinsmen Club members. Wives of K-40 members are K-ettes.The K-40 Club functions mainly as a social organization to continue the fellowship established in Kinsmen. The K-40 Bonspiel, held each year in a different location in Canada, is a major event. K-40 members also assist Kinsmen and Kinettes when called upon. Supper meetings are held when required. Kiwanis Club of The Battlefords While Kiwanis is international in scope, the Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords makes the needs of children in the Battlefords its first priority. Club meetings are held last Monday noon of every month at Blend Restaurant and offer an atmosphere of fun, learning and fellowship. Noon meetings generally consist of project updates followed by thoughtprovoking community speakers. The Kiwanis Club supports a wide range of community organizations and our service projects are often linked to the Kiwanis Program. “Young Children: Priority One,” but we address other needs within the community. Some community organizations and community needs that we have been able to assist are: Catholic Family Services, Saskatchewan Winter Games, COPS Program, Empty Stocking Fund, Kiwanis Music Festival, Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, Meals on Wheels, Novice Hockey Tournament, Finlayson Island Nature Trail, Cancer canvass, walking trails, funding for the CUplex project, plus numerous scholarships and sponsorships. Knights of Columbus - District 15 The Knights of Columbus (K of C) is an International Catholic, Family, Fraternal Service Organization of Catholic Men. District 15 is made up of five Third-Degree councils in the North Battleford area. District Deputy Thomas Schwab is in charge of these five councils, with over 530 members. The Dr. Uhrich Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 1066 is the Patriotic Degree of the Knights of Columbus.The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism for God and the country. At present, the Assembly has over 150 members in the north-west area of Saskatchewan. Meota Duplicate Bridge Club The Meota Duplicate Bridge Club plays one session of duplicate bridge on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at the Do Drop In Seniors’ Centre. North Battleford B.P.O. Elks The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Canada was founded in 1912 and was incorporated by an act of Parliament, May 16, 1913.The North Battleford Lodge No. 369 of the B.P.O.E. was founded in 1953. The purpose of this society are: benevolent, provident, moral and charitable purposes and in particular to generally assist children for their good and welfare. The National Charity of our order is The Elks and Royal Purple fund for children and through this the Elks Deaf Detection and Development Program. This charity offers assistance to children under the age of 19 years who for one reason or another require it and assistance is not available through other channels. Today we have a variety of Ongoing Provincial Programs across Canada for the hearing and communicatively disabled child. The Saskatchewan Preschool Auditory Rehabilitation Centre or SPARC, was founded in 1976. It is located at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and provides free hearing tests for preschool children. The Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research, University of Alberta, Edmonton, was founded in 1986.This program provides research and a unique model service with immense benefits for the stuttering child. The Elks and Royal Purple Drug Awareness Program assists in educating children about the danger of drug and alcohol abuse. The North Battleford Lodge supports these programs as well as many local charity and needy groups or individuals. Bingos continue to be our main

fund raising projects. In May, 1998, the lodge committed $18,000 to fund the continuation of the multipurpose exercise trail from Scott Drive to Douglas Avenue. Over the years most children and youth activities, sports programs including minor football league have received assistance from the Elks. In 1993 the Elks purchased four emergency room beds and two heart monitors for a cost of $40,000 for Battlefords Union Hospital. In 2003 $9,500 was committed to furnish one palliative care room at BUH. In 2009 we funded $4,000 toward the purchase of the score clock at the Civic Centre. We are one of the groups sponsoring free skating for adults and children. Since 2013, more than $200,000 has been donated throughout the community to individuals, schools, groups and organizations. In 2010 we donated $50,000 to the Aquatic Centre at the CUplex multi purpose facility, in keeping with our purpose of assisting children and adults. In 2012 $15,000 was committed to Battlefords Residential Services Inc. towards the purchase of a van. Rotary is an organization of business and professional women and men united to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to help build good will and peace in the world. Membership is based on business classification and normally attracts proprietors, partners, corporate officers and professionals of worthy businesses and professions. Internationally, Rotary has raised more than $1 Billion to support an immunization program to eradicate polio in the world. In The Battlefords, many of our projects have focused on the celebration of excellence in youth as leaders in tomorrow’s world. Scholarships in academics and the arts, RYLA, RYPEN, and international student exchange are all examples of Rotary commitment to youth in the Battlefords. Rotary is also a proud sponsor of the NBCHS Interact club. Rotary has supported local projects such as the Rotary Skateboard Park, Paws Off-Leash Dog Park, King Hill, Multipurpose Walking Trail,

the Senator Herb Sparrow Splash Park, Rotary Plaza at the CUplex, and recently donated $50,000 to the Humane Society for their new building. They were also a Platinum Sponsor of the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games held here in North Battleford in February 2018. Many of the funds raised for the projects come from the Trip of the Month fundraiser, Oktoberfest, the famous Spud-Nut booth at the fair and the annual NHL Playoff Hockey Draft. long and ongoing relationship with many of the schools in Northwest Saskatchewan, where we participate with them in programs to supply backpacks full of school supplies for students in need. We donate or facilitate the donations of thousands of new books for North West students to have not only at school but at home. We have also made significant financial donations to over 25 school libraries and their literacy program in the last ten years. We also have proud relationships with many other local organizations and groups such as BTEC, Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Cancer Society, The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation and Meals on Wheels. With the support of the Battlefords Hotel and Dental Associations and various local businesses we have also begun to provide free of charge personal hygiene kits to many local schools and shelters. As a club our focus is volunteer work, where we consistently provide between 2000 and 3000 hours per year to the Saskatchewan North West.Through battery and computer salvage initiatives we are also able to help may local organizations with financial donations. AWANA Boys and Girls Club

Territorial Drive Alliance Church The AWANA Club is an interdenominational organization for boys and girls from age two years to Grade 12. Our name is an acrostic taken from 11 Timothy 2:15 - “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (NIV) In other words, Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed - AWANA. AWANA Club meets each Tuesday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Territorial Drive Alliance Church. Club begins in early September and runs until the end of April. Each club evening is divided into three parts — game time, handbook time and council time. Game time encourages good sportsmanship and cooperation. Handbook time focuses on scripture memorization and understanding the Bible. Each clubber has an opportunity to recite their memory work to qualified leaders. Council time is a time of singing, presentation of awards and a devotional. There are special theme nights each month that everyone enjoys. The Battle River Cloggers was formed in the fall of 1987, when a group of square dancers asked Dona Keys if she would be their instructor.The club has grown to include people from all around the Battlefords. In the fall of 1995, we started a children’s class. Clogging is done with a double tap on the shoe. It came from the Appalachian Mountains and was modernized to better fit modern music. Battleford Quilters The Battleford Hand Quilters group was formed on March 6, 1974.The traditional art of hand quilting continues to be enjoyed by 10 members who meet each Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Alex Dillabough Center. Visitors are welcome to join us to observe, put in a few stitches and have a cup of tea/ coffee. New members are always welcome. The Battleford Quilters will take orders for quilts to be hand quilted.The customers provide the quilt top, the batting and backing. All the hand quilting is stitched by volunteers. Each hand quilted quilt has The Battlefords Quilters logo on the back. Most of the proceeds are kept in the community, with donations to the Battleford Tot Lot and other organizations. In 2018 we also donated a quilt to a local school for a fund raiser. Members have enjoyed demonstrating hand quilting for special occasions at the Western Development Museum and will be hand quilting there during Museum Days in June and Those Were the Days in August. The Battlefords Ag. Society operates under the guidelines of the Saskatchewan Agricultural Societies Act, its own constitution and bylaws. The objectives of the society are to encourage improvement in agriculture, homemaking, industry, manufacturing, a rts and to promote educational activities, recreation and community development. Created in 1885 by our pioneers, records and documents show the local society has continuously served the surrounding communities in a variety of activities. Members o f the society come from the general membership who join active committees. New members are always welcome. Honorary and regular officers of the society form the board of directors. Day to day operations are furthered from the board by employees. Current activities focus around the Battlefords Children’s Festival - June, Community Garage Sales - Spring & Fall, Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Races - June 2, 3 & 4, 4-H Regional Show and Sale - June, and the annual Agricultural Exhibition known as Northwest Territorial Days August 15 - 17, with a parade to kick it off August 14 in the evening. Agrimex is a commercial trade fair that allows business people to exhibit in appropriate classifications to support agriculture, business, industry. It happens for 3 days at the beginning of April. The Annual Mistletoe Craft Show and Sale will be held in early November. Based on 70 acres of property on the eastern edge of the city the grounds boast the Agriplex, Agrivilla and Board Room, Four livestock barns, AgriVilla, grandstand and race track. Efforts are continuously in progress to upgrade the facilities to be able to serve an ever-changing community by hosting a variety of activities annually. Battlefords Community Players Are you looking for a new adventure, did drama back in high school, always wanted to be involved in live theatre but never had the time or thought experience was necessary. Come out and join the Battlefords Community Players. We are open to everyone and welcome new members at any time. Remember there is more to community theatre than acting, we also need people to build sets, create costumes or who might just like to help by working backstage or front of house. Donâ€™t know, not sure, we can mentor. Battlefords Community Players have been part of the scene in the Battlefords since 1952. The club is one of the oldest in the province and the first to bring supper theatre to Saskatchewan audiences. The club traditionally presents three or four productions each year and will often work with other groups in partnership to present a wide variety of experiences to the community. The club has been the first to produce many new plays for first time and emerging writers â€“ some with great success others not so much. We have also produced many productions written by local writers that have been very successful. BCP traditionally offers a 3 or 4 play season on a subscription basis, as well as smaller, more intimate, productions at our clubhouse in Battleford. Individual tickets are available to all our productions and we offer dinner theatre and show only options. BCP has also been offering murder mystery shows to various groups looking for entertainment for their fundraisers or community events.This year we also prepared a show called Love Letters that would be available to any group looking for something fun for their event. The 2018 - 2019 season should be announced by the end of June, 2018 and our previous patrons will get first opportunity to renew their subscription. Battlefords Duplicate Bridge Club The Battlefords Duplicate Bridge Club has been in operation close to fifty years. Bridge is an intellectual game, one of the most popular card games worldwide and is believed to slow the process of dementia. One session of bridge is played weekly on Thursdays, 7:00 P.M. Six weeks of lessons are given in the fall on Tuesdays. (Date to be announced). Bridge games continue through the year on Tuesdays 10:30 A.M. – 2:45 P.M. Bagged lunch at noon. The Battlefords Highland Dancing Association (BHDA) promotes Scottish culture in and around the Battlefords, primarily by offering highland dancing lessons and planning an annual Robert Burns Supper and Ceilidh in January. Battlefords Horseshoe Club The Battlefords Horseshoe Club welcomes anyone interested in joining them for a game of horseshoes. Our league plays from May September on Tuesday afternoons 5:15 p.m. Players can join our club or just come and learn the skills and rules of the game. Play as many games as you wish, go on holidays, no catch up games necessary. New players are given a handicap to equalize their scores with those who have been playing for years. Men aged 65 and over, ladies and juniors pitch a distance of 30 feet while men under 65 pitch 40 feet. Our club is affiliated with Horseshoe Saskatchewan Inc. and receive some funding from them for member assistance to travel to tournaments. We hold one sanctioned tournament in North Battleford every year but other clubs in the province also hold tournaments throughout the season for players who wish to compete. Our windup in the fall consist of some games of doubles, presentation of various awards and supper to be enjoyed by all. Membership fees for adults are $10.00 per year, Juniors (ages 12 - 18) $8.00, under 12 free. Associate member $2.00. Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival Association The Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival Association held its first festival on May 2, 1932 under the affiliation of the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association. The festival was held in the Legion Hall with 80 entries. The president was Ira Lawrence and the secretary was G. Alex Kevin. North Battleford hosted a Northern District Festival in the spring of 1925 in the Arena Skating Rink. This point of interest gives some indication as to the extent of early musical interest in The Battlefords and area. In 2018 our 87th anniversary was celebrated. Our festival is one of the few that carries the distinction of conducting continued festivals

for 80 years. The objective of our association is to encourage musical growth and development.The festival gives young people an opportunity to perform in public, compete with others their own age and benefit from the suggestions given by the adjudicators. Our committee consists of many dedicated volunteers who help to coordinate the festival. Financial assistance and awards are donated by service clubs, businesses and individuals as well as by the City of North Battleford and the Town of Battleford. Battlefords Lawn Bowling Club The Battlefords Lawn Bowling Club was formed on May 24, 1978. In 1979 the club affiliated with the Provincial and Canadian Lawn Bowling Association. The purpose of the club is to provide lawn bowling opportunities for members wishing to participate for recreation, fellowship and to prepare themselves for competitive lawn bowling. This sport is open to people of all ages - young and not so young. Our members compete in tournaments in Saskatoon and exchange Fun Days with Saskatoon Clubs, Nutana and Mayfair. Battlefords North Stars Jr. A Hockey Club

www.northstars.ca The Battlefords North Stars are one of 12 teams, which compete in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.The North Stars take pride in providing the community with entertainment and a high calibre brand of hockey. Since 1973, the Battlefords have been home to a junior hockey franchise and are proud to have some of the most loyal and enthusiastic fans in the league. Battlefords Registered Music Teachers’ Association Since its founding in 1948, the Battlefords branch of the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers Association has been actively concerned and involved in the provision of quality music education.Active members of the association reside in Glenbush, Cut Knife, Spiritwood, Unity, Battleford, North Battleford and surrounding rural areas. The members frequently serve their communities as church organists, accompanists, guest soloists, playing for weddings and funerals. Teachers also prepare students for music festivals, examinations and public recitals. In recent years, the Club has broadened its scope to include activities such as stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking, in addition to sailing. Club members enjoy liberal access to one of the finest beach facilities in Saskatchewan, and they enjoy free use of the many Club-owned sailboats, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. The Clubhouse is located on the lakefront on the east edge of the village of Meota, adjacent to Meota Regional Park swimming area and beach, and the Meota Golf Course. The facility boasts a spacious elevated deck with an amazing view, BBQ, large meeting/event area, modern kitchen, pool table, and washrooms with showers. The property includes a wide sandy beach for swimming, dock, access for sailboat lifts, and a large lawn for outdoor activities. Note that the Clubhouse is available to groups to rent for special events. Club activities include beachfront socials and fun sailing/kayaking/ paddle boarding. While many Club members are engaged in these fun activities, some join the Club just to have access to the clubhouse and facilities – almost like having their own day-use cottage on the lakefront. Battlefords Ukrainian Seniors Society Branch No. 184 The Battlefords Ukrainian Seniors Society Branch No. 184 was first organized October 1977. The purpose was to get Ukrainian Canadians together for recreation and socialization. Having no permanent home, the basements of the two Ukrainian churches were put to use, alternating every Wednesday for readings, cards, singing and general socializing. In January 1980, we acquired the former band hall, started dismantling on January 14, 1980 and in three days time had it moved to our present location at 792 - 108 Street. Through the generosity of our people and the great amount of volunteer labor by so many we now have a building that is paid for, which serves many purposes and we are very proud to show it off. We gather for suppers with others for certain celebrations such as Ukrainian New Year, Ukrainian Heritage Day and any other occasion that warrants such a supper. Films, slides and guest speakers also are hosted. Many workshops are held to keep up our heritage. The hall is also used by the Svoboda Dancers and The Ukrainian Cultural Society with whom we are closely associated, and the Ukrainian Studies Group. We do not receive any grants.

More than 75 years ago a group of hunters and fisherman got together and formed an organization to stop excessive hunting and to slow down the depletion of habitat for wildlife, and to establish controls on over fishing. This organization eventually became known as The Battlefords Wildlife Federation. At the present time there are over 400 members. In 1975 the Battlefords Wildlife Federation in conjunction with The City of North Battleford, Ducks Unlimited and McMillan Brothers embarked on one of its most exciting and successful undertakings, “The Goose Nesting Project”.This is located within the city limits in the North Saskatchewan River valley. The two basins cover 135 acres. An average of 50 pairs of Canada Geese nest here each year, with a yearly hatch of over 200 goslings.This wetland also provides habitat for numerous other species both migratory and local. It is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. A viewing tower and platforms have been built to provide magnificent opportunities to see wildlife up close. In 1999 the Battlefords Wildlife Federation entered into a long term

agreement with the City of North Battleford on use of the vacant water slide facility and have developed it into an interpretive centre.The purpose is to enhancement of wildlife habitat and youth education in outdoor and conservation fields. Displays exhibited this year are: • a 42-foot display of taxidermy specimens fitting into the backdrop mural of three landscapes — prairie, shoreline and forest; • a display of how animals are adapted to habitats; • an egg collection from over 50 types of birds; • live aquatic tank; interpreting the life of various water insects; • large forest predators. Interpreting their value in the balance of nature; • a Sportsman Den, explaining what role hunters and fishermen play; • a video camera on location on an island in the goose nesting project monitored inside the interpretive centre, allowing visitors to view wildlife up close without disturbing it; • one section has an exhibit of 124 processed plants that grow in the river valley; • on the hillsides are walkways where you can observe identified natural plant life, flower gardens and an aquatic pond. City of North Battleford Historic Archives The City of North Battleford Historic Archives was established in 1989 and works at collecting materials that are original, unique and mostly unpublished items which are judged to be of permanent historical significance.Archival records may be in any medium, they include photographs, maps, architectural drawings, video/audio cassettes and digital formats. Our collection illustrates issues of administrative, legal historical or cultural significance to the development of the City of North Battleford and surrounding area.All holdings are preserved and recorded according to Provincial archival standards. David was a shepherd boy, the youngest in a family of eight boys and Jonathan was a prince, son of King Saul. Everyone would have thought that Jonathan would be king but God had other plans. Instead, God chose David to be the next king of Israel. You might think that Jonathan would be jealous, but instead, Jonathan made a covenant with David and promised to do al he could to help David become all that God wanted him to be. What a friend! Jonathan gave up all he had for David’s sake, and the Bible says David became a man after God’s own heart and that the Lord was with him. We want the children to know they also have a friend who gave up all He had to see them become all God wants them to be. Jesus, the Son of God, left His home in Heaven to come to earth as a little baby. He died and rose again to make a way for each child to have a personal relationship with Him, so they can become all God wants them to be.What a Friend! Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is a private, non-profit, charitable organization that conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats. Since 1938, DUC has been restoring drained wetlands, improving those that have been degraded, and protecting others from being lost across Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is part of the pothole region that spans Canada’s southern prairies and is known throughout North America as a unique jurisdiction for waterfowl. The many small wetlands that dot this landscape make it especially attractive to the waterfowl that migrate to Saskatchewan each spring to breed and rear their young. Saskatchewan citizens have long valued the ecologically rich landscapes that make up their province and have played a key role in managing habitat for migratory bird species such as waterfowl. DUC’s work with the people of Saskatchewan has been essential in achieving waterfowl habitat goals and preserving those landscapes. Waterfowl aren’t the only beneficiaries of DUC wetland and habitat conservation efforts – people benefit too.Wetlands are nature’s water filters. Beyond improving habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife, wetlands replenish groundwater sources, purify surface water and offer flood protection and erosion control. All of which contribute to a safe water supply. Although wetlands are considered nature’s nursery, the stark reality is that much of this habitat has been lost and the remainder continues to be degraded. Up to 70 per cent of Canada’s original wetlands have vanished in settled parts of the country, and more disappear every day. Our conservation work is not done. North Battleford City Kinsmen Band The North Battleford City Kinsmen Band is a community band whose mandate is to provide training on woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Anyone in the Battlefords and area ages eight to well over eighty is welcome. The three levels of performing options can accommodate a wide range of music experience. The beginners’ group is for those learning to play an instrument and they meet on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. The intermediate band is for those that are able to play an instrument and are looking for an opportunity to develop those skills. They meet on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The senior band is for the more experienced players.They meet on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.The bands meet for weekly practices on the first Monday after Labour Day until the beginning of May. Our Leisure Centre was opened in October of 1981 and is located at 1501 - 101st Street.We provide sociability and fellowship to seniors 55+ through card games (Kaiser, crib, canasta), shuffleboard, jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring, afternoon yearly kaiser and crib tournaments and kaiser tournaments every 1st and 3rd Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Pot luck birthday dinners are held every second month and a catered supper at Christmas.The Centre holds a picnic in July and other social events are held for special occasions. Northland Power Curling Centre The Northland Power Curling Centre located next to the Dekker Centre in the CUplex opened its doors in October 2012.This spacious and modern two storey building, operated by the Twin Rivers Curling Club, features six sheets of ice, change/locker rooms, meeting rooms and administration offices on the main floor and a fully equipped restaurant and lounge with ice surface viewing on the second level.This facility has year round rental opportunities for car shows, trade shows, wedding receptions, public gatherings and company events such as Christmas socials, curling bonspiels, banquets and workshops. Monday,Wednesday,Thursday and Friday evenings present league curling to Open and Mixed teams of all levels of skill. Tuesday evening is the Open Competitive League. New to the 2018/19 season will be Doubles curling on Wednesday evenings as well Sturling curling on Friday evenings. During the Curling off season from April to the end of September the Northland Power Curling Centre is home to the Battlefords Roller Derby League with practices on Monday and Wednesday. Throughout the curling season, Twin Rivers Curling Club will be the host to several events, local, regional and provincial that will make great viewing by the public. December we will be hosting 6 female and 6 male U18 teams competing for a spot on Team Saskatchewan for the Canada Winter Games to be held in Red Deer in 2019. Northwest Hockey Development Association The NWHDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting hockey in The Battlefords. Our main function for raising money to promote hockey is the operation of the Civic Centre concession. The Pioneer Association The PioneerAssociation began in 1955 and has been active ever since. It owns a small but very well-equipped hall at 792 - 101st Street (South Railway Avenue). Members are 50 years of age and over and the annual membership fee is $5.00 per person. Membership numbers at the end of 2016 was 78. Any member of 90 years of age qualifies for a lifetime membership. On the fourth Wednesday of each month a birthday party is held, with a pot-luck supper and a dance with live local music. There are suppers and dances held for special occasions throughout the year. An Old Time Dance is held the second Friday of each month, October to April inclusive, with live music. Pot-luck lunch to follow. This is open to everyone. A jam session is held the first Sunday afternoon of each month from September to May. Musicians bring your instruments to play and sing. Everyone is welcome to come to play, sing, dance or just to listen. Admission is a silver collection. Pot-luck snacks, coffee and tea available. The regular general meeting is held in the hall on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. The hall is rented regularly by The Bridge Club, Ballroom Dance Lessons and Tammy’s Violin lessons. The Hillcrest Singers now use the hall every Friday afternoon for their singing. Rivers’ Edge Quilters - The Battlefords The Rivers’ Edge Quilt Guild was formed in September 2000 with 14 members and now has an active membership of nearly 40 quilters. Activities include: monthly business meetings at the Don Ross Center craft room on the first Friday of every month September - May - day long sewing, usually Monday, Thursday and Friday, also at the craft room; retreats; classes taught by members at no charge; and projects for donation within the community. On sewing days, members work on their own projects, take a class from another member, or work on a charity project. Nothing is compulsory, and members can attend as often or as little as they like. Royal Canadian Air Cadets No. 43 Squadron The goal of the Air Cadet movement is to encourage youth to become better citizens, and to promote an interest in aviation and aerospace industries. Weekly training includes citizenship, drill, sports, biathlon, marksmanship, target shooting and curling, with classroom instruction on flying, navigation, airframes, meteorology, aero engines and air radio. Weekend activities include survival training, map and compass orientation, sports weekends, citizenship tours and the central theme of Air Cadets: flying and gliding. Youth aged 14 to 24 have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program, with cadets aged 14 to 18 are able to complete most of the tasks through the squadrons training program. Cadets are also given the opportunity to attend summer camps at various locations in Canada which include Drill and Ceremonial courses,Technical Training (electronics, airframes, aero engines),Airport Operations, Flying and Gliding to a license standard, and International Exchange to the U.S.A., Europe and Australia if qualified and are chosen. 43 Squadron meets every Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m. at 792 111th Street, North Battleford from September - June. The program is open to boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 inclusive. The program has no registration fees and training and uniforms are provided. The aim is to develop the attributes of good citizenship and leadership and to promote physical fitness. The Cadet honour code states that as a member of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, all cadets shall aspire to become citizens of the highest integrity in their community, they shall strive for success in their studies, they shall be considerate of all persons and their property, they shall achieve the highest physical, mental, spiritual and moral standards possible. Weekly training includes, drill, fundamental training, citizenship, target shooting, map and compass, sports, physical fitness and others. There are occasional weekend exercises that include Bushcraft, Fieldcraft, Communications, Biathlon (cross-country skiing and range) and Orienteering with an added focus on Adventure Challenge. Cadets have the opportunity to attend a variety of summer training courses across Canada sponsored by the Department of National Defense Cadets can choose from a number of camps and training opportunities ranging from Basis courses in leadership, music, drill and marksmanship.As well the Cadet program offers a number of adventure and expeditions to Cadets including international exchanges to other countries and the opportunity for Cadets to participate in an Expedition on Mount Everest. The Battlefords Boys & Girls Club is a non-profit agency created to provide for the recreational, cultural, educational and social needs of all children 6 - 14 years of age in our community. The Battlefords Boys and Girls Club was established in November 1976 and has been serving our community ever since. Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program The Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) is a province-wide network of home and community based services provided to families with children from birth to school-age who experience or are at risk for developmental delays. ECIP’s work to enhance child development, support families, and enhance community connections. ECIP organizations share the vision that,“All families have the capacity to meet the developmental needs of their children within the community

of their choice.” Children who are involved with ECIP’s are often delayed in reaching age-appropriate, developmental milestones such as walking, talking, eating, manoeuvring, playing or interacting socially. Early Interventionists make referrals to an Early Childhood Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and others when necessary. Staff begins by building relationships with families and assist them in working toward mutually-identified goals for their children. CMHA Battlefords Branch We are a community based organization supporting persons with mental illness, their families, friends and caregivers. CMHA Battlefords Branch is one of nine branches in Saskatchewan providing direct services, education and mental health/illness community awareness to reduce stigma. Membership is open to all. We provide the following programs: TEP Training for Employment Program develops work and life skills and employs a team of individuals working in the community. Each work day, the TEP crew does snow removal, lawn care, yard maintenance, flyer delivery and odd jobs as well as manage a lunch program for members Mondays to Thursdays. Social/Recreation Program focuses on community involvement, education and advocacy. Activities are offered to members either free or at minimal cost (Christmas Social, monthly dances, seniors program, special events, day trips and extensive summer programs). Social/Recreational activities are offered four evenings a week, bowling each Saturday, weekend day/overnight trips and a week long summer tour. Based on the Saskatchewan New Start Model for life skills training, our Life Skills Program assists clients in the development and maintenance of essential daily living skills that may have been lost due to loss of independence, institutionalization and so forth. The Life Skills Program runs Monday and Wednesday morning (except during summer months).

CMHA Battlefords Branch has an innovative partnership with Friends for Life and GAP (Gambling Awareness Program) that provide community awareness and education workshops. Habitat for Humanity - Battlefords Chapter

In November 2012, My First Home Inc. of the Battlefords signed an agreement to operate Habitat for Humanity - The Battlefords, under the umbrella of Habitat Saskatoon. Habitat Saskatoon serves as our mentor and provides full administrative support including sending out tax receipts. This allows the local committee and volunteers to focus on the home build itself. Homes are built using volunteer labour and donated materials. Working families who are selected to receive a home must contribute

500 hours of “sweat equity” and enter into an affordable and sustainable, no-interest mortgage, held by Habitat Saskatoon. We have been working hard since breaking ground in 2015 to construct a duplex at 1211 - 106th Street for two families. We are still looking for individuals and businesses/organizations who wish to come out and help with the final stages of the build. Kanaweyimik Child & Family Services Inc. Kanaweyimik Child and Family Services Inc. was established in 1994 to provide child and family services for First Nation communities. Kanaweyimik currently serves the communities of Moosomin, Mosquito, Red Pheasant, Sweet Grass and Saulteaux First Nations. Most recently in 2014, Kanaweyimik started to provide prevention services for children and families in the Battlefords and surrounding areas. Prevention Program Kanaweyimik provides individual/family support provided by professional staff; community wide activities coordinated by Local Advisory Committees and supported by Activity Coordinator; youth intervention services to provide youth with opportunities to participate in healthy and cultural activities; and counselling/treatment provided through the Family Violence Program and Warrior Program. Child Protection Program This program is staffed with Family Service Workers that respond to reports of child abuse and/or neglect in the five First Nation communities. The Family Service workers are available during normal working hours. Emergency services are provided after hours and on weekends/holidays.

Playtime Co-operative Childcare This non-profit parent co-operative is licensed to provide childcare services for 73 children aged six weeks to 12 years. Prairie Employment Program Inc. Prairie Employment Program Inc. (1977) (PEP) is a nonprofit community-based organization which is governed by a local board of directors. PEP is funded by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training (ICT) and the Government of Canada through Service Canada (SC). PEP’s mandate is to assist clients by establishing realistic employment goals, designing programs focused on solid outcomes and providing follow-up services and supports to ensure long-term success in the workforce. Prairie Employment Program works with unemployed individuals eighteen and over who offer a variety of skills and are seeking employment.Through the dynamics of one-to-one counselling and the Skills Training Employability Plan (STEP) employment continuum, the agency provides services to facilitate career decision making, skills enhancement, employment preparation, work experience and work assessments. Mission Statement: To enable Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. We carry out our mission through community service, first aid and CPR training. We provide high quality training by knowledgeable and experienced instructors in First Aid/CPR/AED, Babysitting, Pet First Aid and Personal Care Worker courses. St. John Ambulance also carries all your first aid supply needs everything from bandages to Automated External Defibrillators. During our courses, students receive a 10% discount when they purchase first aid kits and/or CPR barrier devices. St. John has Volunteer Medical First Responder Units that provide first aid coverage and support services at public events where our presence is requested.To apply to be a MFR volunteer, you must have a current SJA Standard First Aid/CPR C/AED certificate; as well you would need to have a criminal record check done and two references. Once approved, we ask you to commit 60 hours of service and training within our community. Medical First Responder training would be provided for you as well as on-going training. The Therapy Dog Program is founded upon the belief in the therapeutic benefits of volunteers from the community sharing their dogs with people who are unable to keep a dog of their own.
