Robert Mansergh served in the 17th Battalion Manchester Regiment – the 2nd Manchester Pals. He survived hostilities, despite his involvement on the Western Front. He was awarded the Military Cross for bravery in the field, promoted Captain and became a Staff Officer in later times. Robert was wounded and invalided home in 1918, where he served with the 3rd and 51st Battalions. After the Armistice, Robert was posted in Germany. He later served in the Territorial Army.
