GIVING BACK

Batson-Cook’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live and work began with our founders, W.C. Batson and Edmund Cook. They helped the people of West Point, GA rebuild their lives and homes following two natural disasters - a tornado and a flood - which occurred not long after the company was founded in 1915.

Over the ensuing century, the BatsonCook family has honored its founders by being as passionate about giving back as we are about building. We strive to live by our core values of doing the right thing and caring about people. Our employees are leaders in their communities, and our company does not step away from an opportunity to help improve the lives of those around us.

“We strive to make meaningful contributions; and we embrace our company’s civic conscience.”

SAFETY

A strong culture of safety is at the foundation of how we protect our Batson-Cook colleagues, clients, trade partners, and communities in which we work. We know a concerted effort to protect safety, health, and the environment has a direct effect on the engagement of our workforce and the quality of work we perform.

Batson-Cook’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system follows the following guiding principles:

Visible Leadership Commitment

Safety leadership starts at the top. Our expectation is that all Batson-Cook employees, as well as our trade partners perform safe work and continuously look for opportunities to improve and apply best practices. They recognize and reinforce employees’ positive behaviors and those individuals that support our safety efforts and expectations.

Pre-planning

Our preconstruction department allocates budgets for health and safety resources while also prioritizing the identification of proactive systems and technologies. In partnership with our project teams, safety risks are identified, assessed, and planned for in advance. Our employees are trained and

empowered to engage in health and safety planning; to identify and speak up about hazards in the workplace; and to report and learn from unintended events.

Safe Start

Our Safe Start Program is Batson-Cook’s system for on-boarding each trade partner prior to starting work and continues throughout the project. The preparation and various proactive safety meetings allow us to discuss work methods, assess risk, and agree to controls and procedures.

Continual Improvement

Our operations teams and HSE professionals analyze all unintended or unplanned events whether they result in injury or not. The information gained from these events allows us to identify root causes, as well as opportunities for implementing new technologies, systems, or processes. Lessons are shared within the company and trade partners to continually refine our safety measures.

The more we talk about safety, the more we cultivate a strong, proactive safety culture where our people embrace ownership for the health and safety of themselves and others.

At Batson-Cook, safety is a shared responsibility.

Every employee is personally committed to working safely and actively contributes ideas to continuously improve our safety practices, both in the field and in the office.
