DON JOSE’S GRILL IN PLANNING THE restaurant, we wanted to incorporate elegance with an Old Western Mexican look. We were able to accomplish this with the extensive wood work along with the elegance of onyx and mural stones. We also wanted to raise the bar for Mexican restaurants with a bar area to be enjoyed.

Some of our most popular drinks include our classic house and top-shelf margaritas, as well as our signature margaritas. The Spicy Mango Margarita is a frozen margarita that combines the sweet taste of mango with a spicy hint of Mexican hot sauce. It is no secret that Mexico is famous for blending spicy with lime, but this margarita is a cocktail version of the popular tradition of eating freshly sliced mango with lime and hot sauce that is found in neighborhoods and households throughout Mexico.

LOUISIANA LAGNIAPPE RESTAURANT WHEN WE WERE young we went to Destin yearly for family vacation.

There were no restaurants there that served food like we were accustomed to in Louisiana. Surely there were other families like ours who wanted food cooked with seasoning? We found a location in 1984 and opened in Sandpiper Cove. After selling the restaurant in 1998, we moved home to Baton Rouge and opened our present location on New Year’s Day of 2003. We were fortunate to have a built-in customer base of those who had known us in Florida.

Cocktail favorites at our bustling, cozy bar include the Old Fashioned, the French 75, the Peach Sangria and the timeless blend featured here, the Manhattan Proper. It is stirred with the smooth and bold Maker’s 46 and Antica Formula sweet vermouth, then garnished with the warm oils of a flamed orange and a Luxardo cherry.

BIN 77 BISTRO AND SIDEBAR THE SIDEBAR WAS formed from a need to provide our guests with a continued Bin 77 experience. We found that after finishing a delicious spread at the Bistro, our guests were looking for somewhere to hang out nearby with the same knowledge and attention to detail they found at Bin 77. The Sazerac is considered to be one of the first cocktails originating in New Orleans. It is unlike other featured cocktails on our menu in that it is presented in its classic form. THE GREGORY LOCATED OFF THE lobby in the former Louisiana National Bank, our restaurant is centered between an open kitchen and a full bar and surrounded by murals painted by the artist after whom the restaurant is named, Angela Gregory.

LA CONTEA ITALIANO RISTORANTE THE BAR AT La Contea is warm and inviting. Its unique curved design geometrically matches the curved architecture of the building, creating a semicircle shape which allows for better service. There are also tables for those who prefer to sit closer to the 12-foot windows.

For cocktails, a guest favorite is the Italian Margarita made with Adriente gold tequila, Disaronno amaretto and fresh-squeezed lime juice. There is also the Italian Berry Mule—Absolut, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, raspberry puree, fresh-squeezed lime and a splash of balsamic vinegar. The La Contea 75, featured at left, is similar to the French 75 but with a twist. It’s made with Avissi Prosecco, fresh lemon juice and cathead honeysuckle. The unique flavor of the honeysuckle adds to the Prosecco, giving this drink a refreshing finish.

Some of our guests’ favorite drinks are the happy hour staples, such as the Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Moscow Mule and French 75. However, the most popular drink ordered is the “make me something” menu feature that we call Cocktail Roulette. Patrons love challenging the bar staff to concoct a cocktail using a simple description of a single featured ingredient—but the fun can range all the way to a more vivid description of a favorite dessert or maybe a drink they loved from somewhere else.

The drink featured here is one of our original crowd favorites, the Strawberry Swing. It features fresh strawberries and basil, gin, elderflower liqueur, pomegranate juice and our original-recipe grenadine. It’s an amazing cocktail for the hot summer months!
