Page 1

Welcome to your Bath Spa University (BSU) Open Day. We’re so excited to meet you!

This is your opportunity to see what it's really like to study at our University. You'll be able to talk to students, explore our campuses, and learn all about the support and opportunities available to you when you study with us. Be sure to check out the timetables on pages 13 to 24 to see which sessions you'd like to attend.

There are maps on campus (and in this brochure), and our Student Ambassadors and staff are on hand throughout the day to help. You can visit our information point in Commons Atrium, where our staff are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Free tea and coffee is available in the Refectory and at various locations across campus.

We hope today helps you make an informed decision to apply to BSU, and that you enjoy your visit!

WHY CHOOSE US?

With great teaching, excellent facilities, and the space for you to discover your best self, BSU is more than a university- we're a unique community where creative minds meet.

A WORLD-FAMOUS CITY

Bath has been the shining gem of the South West since Roman times. Known for its creative scene, wide array of independent businesses and Regency charm, it’s an easy city to fall in love with. It’s also one of the safest cities in the UK, so you can settle into your new home with confidence.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

We conduct world-leading research that makes a difference. With BSU, you can be a part of a movement of creative thinkers changing the world through creative solutions, impactful cultural partnerships, and the facilities and confidence to succeed.

MAKING YOU A PRIORITY

Our community is at the heart of our work, and we’re here to help you make the most of your time at BSU. Our Student Wellbeing and Careers Teams are available around the clock to support you in any way that they can.

OUTSTANDING SPACES AND FACILITIES

Our campuses have everything you need to realise your most ambitious projects. From our state-of-the-art studios, labs and performance spaces to our specialist workshops and IT suites, you’ll have the very best tools at your disposal.

DISCOVER A NEW COMMUNITY

University is a great place to meet new friends and find new interests. With over 70 different clubs and societies, there’s something for everyone at the Bath Spa Students’ Union. Try your hand at cosplay, join a competitive sports team, or even start a band; the possibilities are endless.

SHUTTLE BUS

Our shuttle buses run between Newton Park from outside the library to our art and design campus, Locksbrook, all day.

You can hop on the bus outside of the Library at Newton Park to head to Locksbrook, and at the Locksbrook Road entrance of Locksbrook Campus to head to Newton Park.

If you're looking at courses mainly based at Newton Park, why not go explore our other campus? Even though it's focused on art and design provision, Locksbrook is open for all of BSU's students to use, both as a study space and as a means to experiment in our technical workshops. You can try your hand at screenprinting, sewing, 3D printing, metalwork, graphics, painting... the opportunities are endless!

You can also hop on a free FirstBus Shuttle bus from Newton Park to Dorchester Street (outside Bath Spa train station) and to the Weston (near Locksbrook Campus).

THE CITY OF BATH

Bath is a beautiful and unique city, with a thriving student community. We love being here and hope you will too! After you’re finished on campus, we encourage you to check out the city centre. We’ve prepared a handy guide of fun things to do in Bath whilst you’re visiting us!

WELL CONNECTED

It’s easy to explore from Bath; big cities like London, Bristol and Cardiff can be reached by train, and Bristol Airport is less than an hour away for adventures further afield.

VIBRANT AND CULTURAL

Outstanding sports venues and facilities, lively nightlife, restaurants and cafés sit alongside great independent shops and quiet corners. Bath also has a vibrant arts scene, including the annual Bath Festival and SparkFest, both of which BSU students help deliver.

BURSTING WITH INDUSTRY

You’ll graduate industry ready in a city thriving with creative industries and leading organisations in education, publishing, creative technology and more. There is also a large community of entrepreneurs and microbusinesses.

1

FIVE THINGS TO DO IN BATH

There’s plenty of history to see in Bath; the whole city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hop on an open top bus tour and check out the sights, or follow the city trail walking tour and see iconic historic locations like the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and the Assembly Rooms. TOUR THROUGH TIME

2

FANCY A CUPPA?

Bath is renowned for its huge array of teahouses, most of which dates back to the 18th century. Get the ‘true’ Georgian experience with a Bath Bun at Sally Lunn’s, the oldest bakehouse in Bath, or enjoy a cream tea at one of the many other independent cafes across the city.

3 EXPLORE THE OUTDOORS

The city centre might be bustling with its fair share of shops, restaurants, and bars, but it’s also home to many beautiful green spaces. Take a tour around the Parade Gardens, or laze in front of the Royal Crescent at Victoria Park and take in the views.

4

SPOT THE FILMING LOCATION

Bath has become renowned as a sought-after film location and hosts its own Film Festival every year. Why not go on a tour of your favourite Bridgerton spots, or see where Timothee Chalamet danced in Wonka?

5 QUIRKY SHOPPING

Full of independents, vintage shops and high street brands, Bath is a shopper’s paradise.
