MEET BATH’S INDIE MEET BATH’S INDIE HEROES HEROES
We speak to Emily and Layla, founders of the award-winning 12 Trim Street.
Tell us a bit about 12 Trim Street ...
12 Trim Street, new to Bath, is a relaxed, open plan, happy hideaway to unwind and enjoy a range of hair and beauty treatments. New independent business owners Emily and Layla have created a beautiful salon with a talented team for customers to be treated to the best styles, great coffee, good vibes and the friendliest service.
Why Bath?
Not only is Bath one of the world’s most beautiful cities, it’s filled with atmosphere from a mix of independent businesses, friendly community and the hustle and bustle of tourism. With a vision for our customers to have the ultimate, luxury service we felt that Bath offers the best and only place for us to create our brand and to build a loyal clientele.
How did it feel to be featured in Bridgerton?
It came as no real surprise that Netflix chose Bath for the filming of its no 1 series Bridgerton. Our beautiful shop front made it an easy pick to be featured as Gunther’s Tea Shop when Trim Street was transformed back in time. Even a year on the tour is still thriving and we get many tourists posing for photos outside the shop.
Top Indie recommendation in Bath?
Whilst Mondays are our boring admin day, it’s made far more enjoyable by some fabulous lunch spots around Bath. Rosarios has the best coffee and the friendliest service and Café Lucca in the sunshine has some lovely healthy food options.
What are you most looking forward to in Bath this year?
Bath offers such a variety of events all year round. We will be looking forward to the comedy festival at the Forum, Bath Boules charity event in Queens Square where we will be looking to take the title this year ha ha! We also hope to finally see back the Christmas market this year.

What are your plans for the future?
After a successful first year in such a difficult time to open a business mid lockdowns, we hope to keep growing our team and continue to delight everyone who visits 12 Trim Street. We plan on offering our space for online businesses to host pop up shopping events in the summer. Finally another salon party has been requested, this time bigger and better with an incentive to raise money for some of Bath’s incredible local charities.

BATH IN FILM: BATH IN FILM: BRIDGERTON BRIDGERTON
Bath plays a starring role in Bridgerton, with many scenes being shot throughout the city. Many of the city’s fantastic independent businesses featured as locations in the series...
Abbey Quarter It’s difficult not to imagine bumping into Eloise and Penelope enjoying a gossip as they browse through the market stalls, or even to catch a salacious encouter between Anthony Bridgerton and Siena, as you stroll through the cobbled square of Abbey Quarter. Home to some of Bath’s favourite shops, eateries, and the Abbey Quarter Market on the last Sunday of every month, an exploration of this area is an absolute must for fans of Bridgerton.
The Abbey Deli Whilst you won’t find the famed dressmaker Madame Delacroix here, what you will find is an assortment of freshly baked meals and produce sourced from local suppliers. A must visit for anyone looking for a nice place to lunch.
The Holburne Museum After browsing the wonderful art collection, transport yourself back to 1813 and enjoy tea in the cafe, where a section has been converted into a ‘Bridgerton’ setting. There’s even a photo area at the front of the building - used as the exterior for Lady Danbury’s townhouse - for all your Bridgerton-inspired snaps! No.1 Royal Crescent Explore the rooms of the house and marvel at the Georgian splendour, whilst imaging yourself eavesdropping on gossip from the servants and family that live there. Just like the Featherington’s in Bridgerton!
12 Trim Street Known as Gunter’s Tea Shop to Bridgerton fans, this charming shop front is home to 12 Trim Street, an award-winning hairdresser and beauty parlor.
