A Message from Our Director

Dear Residents:

As we welcome another fall season, I find myself reflecting on what has been an extraordinary year for the Batavia Park District and our community.

Nearly one year ago, we opened the doors to the Callahan Community Center, a project years in the making and one that has quickly become a gathering place for people of all ages. From fitness classes and enrichment programs to community meetings, special events, and everyday connections, it has already become exactly what we hoped it would be: a place where community happens.

The excitement surrounding the Callahan Community Center reflects something larger taking place throughout the park district as residents continue to embrace our parks, programs, trails, events, and community spaces.

This fall, we’re especially excited to introduce a brand-new special event: Mom & Son Night Out. On Friday, Oct. 9, Shannon Hall and the J. Murphy Gym will transform into an out-of-this-world adventure featuring a live DJ, dancing, interactive games, friendly competitions, refreshments, and plenty of outer space-themed fun. It’s the perfect opportunity to unplug, make memories, and enjoy quality one-onone time together.

Pickleball players have plenty to celebrate this season as well. We’re offering Beginners, Beginners Plus, and Intermediate Leagues, along with a Recreational and Competitive Tournament on Sept. 19. Open gym pickleball returns to the Civic Center Gymnasium this fall for just $3 per visit or $27 for a 10-punch pass, and our eight outdoor courts at West Main Community Park remain available on a first-come, firstserved basis.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on enhancing parks, expanding recreational opportunities, and thoughtfully planning for the future needs of our growing community. Thank you to our residents, Board of Commissioners, volunteers, partners, and dedicated staff for helping make Batavia a place where people of all ages can learn, play, connect, and thrive.

As you explore this Fall Fun Guide, I hope you find something that inspires you to try something new. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your story. We look forward to seeing you this fall!

Warmly,

John Tilmon President

Help Bring More Bike Racks to Batavia Parks

The Batavia Parks Foundation’s Pedal, Park, Play! initiative is off to a great start. Our April 10 kickoff fundraiser at Sturdy Shelter Brewing raised more than $7,000 to support new bike racks throughout Batavia.

These funds will help install bike racks at H. Michael Wild Park, Saratoga Park, Braeburn Park, Hartsfield Park and Fox Trail Park, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy our parks by bike.

Sponsorship opportunities remain available for three popular Batavia parks: Memorial Park ($3,000), Engstrom Park ($2,500) and Big Woods Park ($2,500).

By sponsoring a bike rack, you are investing in our community and supporting active recreation. Sponsors receive recognition through a custom plaque and personalized bike rack end cap, creating a lasting connection to Batavia’s parks.

To support this and other Foundation projects, donations may be mailed to Batavia Park District, 327 W. Wilson St., Batavia, IL 60510 C/O Batavia Parks Foundation, or scan the QR code to give online.

Good Time Guarantee

At Batavia Park District, we’re dedicated to providing high-quality recreation programs because our residents deserve the best.

We’re so confident you’ll enjoy your experience that we offer a Good Time Guarantee — if you’re not satisfied, we’ll give you a full refund.

Our Promise:

If you’re unhappy with the quality of instruction, your child’s ability to adjust, or the class skill level, request a refund before the third class and receive your full payment back.

Guidelines:

• Participant must attend the first two classes.

• Applies only to recreation programs (six or more classes taught by Park District staff).

• Does not apply to Quarry passes, special events, trips, New Horizons Preschool, camps, Kids’ Club, Klub Fun, or Youth/Adult Leagues.

• Submit a completed Good Time Guarantee form to the Recreation office before the third class. Forms are available in person only.

GENERAL INFORMATION Policies

NSF Checks

Checks returned for non-sufficient funds will be assessed a $20 service fee.

Program Refund Policy

Refunds will be considered for the following reasons:

• Class cancellations/Park District closings will result in a refund that will be applied to the household account as a credit towards future registrations. Upon request, refunds can also be paid by check or issued directly to a credit card if the request is made within 45 days of the original purchase. If you wish to apply this refund to another class, you must notify the Park District immediately.

• Refund requests received 5 business days before the first class will be accepted, less a service charge. If application is received less than 5 business days prior to start of program and it causes enrollment to fall below minimum and the spot cannot be filled; no refund will be given

• Refund requests received after the second meeting of the program will not receive a refund with the exception of a written medical excuse prior to completion of the program. A $5 service charge and program supply costs will be deducted from the amount of refund for each program, including medical reasons. Medical excuses will result in a pro-rated refund based upon the number of classes held prior to the date listed on the physician’s excuse. If program falls below the minimum required and the spot cannot be filled, no refund will be given.

• Applications for refunds for one-day programs (with the exception of Klub Fun) must be submitted 5 business days prior to class starting in order to receive a refund. Refunds will not be accepted after the class has ended.

• All refunds will be issued in the form of how payment was originally made when a refund application is approved before the class starts. Refunds to a credit card can only be issued within 45 days of the original purchase.

• All refunds applied for are subject to a $5 service charge. Instances where fees are $10 or less, the service charge will be based on 10%.

• Kids’ Club, Klub Fun, New Horizons and Camp SUN-Sational participants are subject to different terms of refund and withdrawal policy. See parents’ manuals or description for more information.

• Refunds will be applied to any outstanding balance owed on any programs or activities.

Inclement Weather Policy

For program and event updates or cancellations, please visit bataviaparks.org/rainout. The umpires or instructors decide the status of play after program starts. They will base their decisions on the field conditions and the likelihood of rain or thunder.

Out-of-District Fee Policy

Batavia Park District residents make a significant contribution to the operation of the Park District via property taxes. The Park District boundaries were established with the formation of the Park District in 1969. A map showing the boundaries is included in the brochure and available at the Park District Administrative Offices. Persons living outside the boundaries may be required to pay an additional fee to register for programs.

Electronic Signature Readers

Electronic signature readers eliminate the need for you to complete a paper form every time you register. The electronic reader captures your signature and confirms that you’ve agreed to the liability waiver and release of all claims.

Signatures will stay on file for 12 months, and after that time you will simply stop in or complete an online registration to sign the waiver again. If you are a regular phone-in customer, we will need to capture your signature in person in order for you to do subsequent registrations by phone. Online registration is not affected.

Program Cancellations

All programming, events and trips are subject to cancellation up until the time of the program, event or trip if patron and staff safety is a concern. Programs not meeting the minimum registration will be canceled, and refunds will be issued in the form of a check.

Cancellation decisions will be made one week in advance of the beginning of the program in most cases. All participants in canceled classes will be notified by Park District staff and will receive a full refund.

Class Transfers

If you wish to transfer to a different class, please contact Customer Relations to complete a Transfer Form during business hours. The form is also available at bataviaparks.org: Programs & Events > Registration Information > Forms.

Waiting List

Many of our classes have Registration limits due to facility space and staff limitations, therefore we cannot always guarantee you will be enrolled in the class of your choice. The Park District maintains waiting lists for classes that have reached their maximum Registration and encourages everyone to be placed on a waiting list. We will open additional classes whenever possible.

Instructors and leaders are not allowed to accept any registrations and are not allowed to give authorization for more people to register than the listed maximum. Your cooperation is appreciated. Registration deadlines have been set for each class. Please register prior to Registration deadline. We try to establish class status at least one week prior to starting dates. Please register at least one week prior to class unless designated otherwise.

A.D.A. Compliance

The Batavia Park District intends to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act by making reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. If you or someone you know will require an accommodation for District service, or have any questions about the District’s compliance, please contact Batavia Park District’s ADA Compliance and Inclusion officer Brittany Meyer at 327 W. Wilson St., Batavia, 630-879-5235.

Essential Eligibility

Essential eligibility is the minimum set of factors that determines whether any person (exclusive of disability) is eligible to participate in a program. Essential eligibility changes from program to program, but not from person to person.

Essential eligibility requirements often include:

• Registration fees/charges - Paying the same fee everyone else is required to pay.

• Age restrictions - Meeting program age requirements/limitations (i.e., preschool children 3-5, summer camp for 4th and 5th graders, softball league for 8- and 12-year-olds, etc.)

• Complying with code of conduct/behavior expectations - All participants must abide by the same reasonable rules of conduct.

• Capacity restrictions - Once program capacity is met, the program provider can deny registration (denial is because the program is full, and not because of disability, race, religion, etc.)

• Residency - Program may be open to in district families first (denial is based upon non-residency status, and not because of disability, race, religion, etc.)

• Gender/sex - Some programs have gender requirements (i.e., girls or boys basketball, denial is based upon gender, and not because of disability, race, religion, etc.)

• Minimum physical/mental/skill competencyDepending on the program/activity, participants may be required to have minimum physical, mental or skill competencies. For example, to be eligible for a travel sport league, players may be required to prove certain offensive &/or defensive skills, or other minimum sport competency.

• Toilet-training requirements – If a program never provides toileting assistance to any child or participant, then such a personal service would not be required to a child or participant with a disability. However, the child or participant cannot be excluded from the program because he or she was not toilet trained and a parent agrees to come and do the diapering, or the family pays for a personal attendant.

Scholarship Program

The Batavia Park District Board of Commissioners and staff believe in providing program scholarship opportunities to residents with financial limitations. Park District residents are invited to complete the Scholarship Application, attach the required documents, and return to the Civic Center office at 327 W. Wilson St. For a list of qualifying programs and the Scholarship Application, please visit bataviaparks.org.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Fun Guide Disclaimer

The Batavia Park District staff makes every effort to prepare our Fun Guides as accurately as possible. Due to the large amount of information available in the seasonal guides, errors after publication may occur. We will attempt to keep information on our website as current as possible. We apologize for any errors and thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Code of Conduct

The Batavia Park District is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for participants in recreation programs. Participants are expected to adhere to fair and safe conduct guidelines. These guidelines apply to the safety of participants, the general public, employees and volunteers of the Batavia Park District.

A safe environment is where participants, staff, volunteers and the general public are free from physical harm. It is anticipated that some participants may require assistance to participate in the recreation program. This assistance may include accommodations, which will assist participants with unusual behaviors in order to maintain a safe environment for all.

The following actions are prohibited at Batavia Park District facilities and parks:

• Hitting, kicking or throwing objects.

• Inappropriate sexual touching.

• Creating a risk of contagion or illness, whether intentional or not.

• Bringing a weapon to a program or activity or acting in a manner which exposes the participant or others to danger.

• Extreme verbal abuse.

• Fighting.

• Any other unacceptable behavior including inappropriate dress.

• Any violation of these guidelines may result in: removal of the participant from the activity for a short period of time; removing the participant from the activity for the remainder of the day; suspending the participant for the next program meeting; and suspending the participant for the remainder of the program season.

Inclusion Services for Individuals with Disabilities

Batavia Park District works collaboratively with the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA) to provide reasonable modifications for individuals with disabilities who need assistance to participate successfully in programs.

We strive to foster independence and active participation in the least restrictive environment. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), modifications can vary from program to program and are determined following an intake assessment conducted by a team member from FVSRA.

Modifications can include one or more of the following:

• Activity modification

• Adaptive equipment

• Additional staff support

• Sign Language interpreters

• Staff training

• Support plans for behavior, diabetes, or seizure disorders

Requesting Inclusion Services

Inclusion services can be requested at the time of registration in person or by phone. If registering online, click the “Contact Us” option in the top menu bar or call the park district at 630-879-5235 to place your request.

Timeline for Services

For new participants, FVSRA aims to complete an intake assessment within one week of receiving your request for inclusion services. Once an individual has a completed intake on file, the average time to determine and coordinate modifications is two weeks. To provide the best customer service, we ask for at least two weeks’ notice before the start of the program to arrange modifications.
