01 NEXUS Multi-level, multi-family housing has emerged as a natural response to the demand for shelter in dense urban areas - to maximize the number of living units possible in the given land. The main theme of the design is to find a perspective that looks at affordable housing more than just lliving sapces and shared amenities.

BRINGING AFFORDABILITY BACK TO HOME The thought of making sure everybody gets their basic needs ifs getting faded away in the fast running routine urban life. Hence, The Integration of common spaces along with providing maximum number of houses in a given area was posed as tthe challenge. This was responded by designing a central square which would become the place of interaction between blocks and also the liminal space between them.

Site :Guindy Industrial Estate,

Ekkatuthangal, Chennai.

Area

:3600sqm.

FSI achieved :1.98 Number of Units

: 60nos.

Common Area Percentage: 19%

Considering the green cover in the center of the site a nexus point is created fro the users, as a converging point form both the roads.The Nexus being the central square and a communtiy gathering area creates a sense of belonging.

The Nexus is made pedestriancentric ,and so the vehicular traffic is being pushed to the perifery.

The Intial massing was done in the intent of achieving the FSI required for the Non-highrise buildings in TNDCBR.

Then the massin g was converted into a structure considering th column grid required for the stilt parking.

CONCEPT EVOLUTION: The Nexus is entered through a pathway covered with the a closed canopy cover creating a sense of amusement in the open square in the center.

The transition from the colsed to open space is intended.

02 THE POD The Design is proposed to create a Visitng Professor’s Pod,inside the Anna University Campus, Chennai. My intent is to consider necessity of different kind of environments for staff-student interaction, while not compromising their basic privacy requirement.

DELIMITING THE SPACES The aim is to provide the Professors with efficient combination of open , semi-open/closed spaces. The daily routines of Professors were taken into consideration while proportionating the spaces required. Transition spaces act as buffer zones between the public and the private areas.

Site: Anna University, Chennai Area: 600sqm.

Users:4Professors+ Students.

Understanding canopy cover and shadows in the site.

Inferring from site analysis.

Zoning of private and public spaces.

Creating buffers between them.

Visual connectivity between public and private spaces.

The Integration of open, semi-open and closed spaces for the interation between the Professors and the students . These spaces are considered public, while the Professor rooms are secured spaces where privacy is concenterated fro their comfortabilty.

03 CEREBRAL PURSUIT Urbanization of the cities has made the people get stuck in a routine life loop that holds them from expressing their thoughts and some thoughts often get neglected. An earthly structure which could actually make the people to integrate and express their thoughts of varioud disciplines- SPACE FOR THOUGHTS.

WHY BEACH? The crashing sound of the ocean waves, the smell of salt water and the feeling of warm sand beneath your toes brings us to a soothing mood. Recent studies prove that a beach-type environment can have a profound impact on our brain and mental health. The beach always tends to be the premier destination to unwind and recharge our minds.

The site is partially crowded, so as to ensure the effective use of the structure.

The potential to generate thoughts was seen on the site.

WHY THIRUVANMIYUR? The intent was to concenterate on the fast moving crowd of the city which was considered from the Guindy Industrial Zone and the IT parks in OMR.As beach was the main see-Thiruvanmiyur was selected. the site character is built with variety of users which will lead to the expression varied class of thoughts.

04 TRIPOD

YONGXIN BRIDGE COMPLEX

The competition was based on connecting both sides of Heshui River (the old and new city of Yongxin county) along with Linjiang building, the Bridge along with the building is called the BRIDGE COMPLEX.

BRIDGE AS AN EXPERIENCE The Bridge Complex is perceived as a way to depict the history of Heshui River across which the bridge is to be erected. The Historical context and memory to be passed on to the next generation of the county through this experience.

The bridge is 150m in length running North-South which resulted in the amphitheatres to act as sun viewing decks in both directions.

Various aspects and historical incidents were explored and concluded to these triangular interpretations. These were then broken to creating nodal points in the bridge. which would make the experience memorable.

Different Nodal points were createdProviding different functions to each one of them.

1. Swings / Children play area 2. Kiosk- small eatery space 3. Seaters 4. Amphitheatre- Sun-view point.

LINJIANG BUILDING This Building is the part of the bridge complexdesign as a pass through building that facilitates the functioning of the Bridge. GIven a open plan as function was not spectifed. The Deck in the top of the building is designed such that it gives clear cut view of the bridge as it is 200m away from th e bridge.

ELIVE NTRANCE ARCH-PROPOSAL PROJECT EXPERIENCE

At the sitework, I was given a task of designing the Entrance Arch of the live-project. Considering the function of the building which was based on trade, the design is intended to depct the early form of trade-BARTER SYSTEM. The curve of the arch symbolises the hands being placed on one another during the exchange of goods.
