In2001,Bar-GalmovedtoShanghai,wherehebeganresearchonthecity’sJewishcemeteries.Hiseffortstopreservegravestones andraiseawarenessbroughtglobalattentiontoShanghai’sJewishheritage.Since2003,hehasledtheShanghaiJewishHeritage TourandownedtheARTSEAPhotographyGallery,promotingcontemporaryphotographyinShanghai. Bar-Galistheauthorofthreephotoalbums:SeaSpirit(1998),FortheBenefitofthePeople(2010),andShanghaiJew(2013),and publishedChina’sfirstPassoverHaggadahin2009.
AfrequentspeakeratU.S.universitiesandculturalorganizations,Bar-GalcontinuestoshareShanghai’suntoldJewishhistory. SincemovingtoSanAntonio,Texasin2022,heremainsdedicatedtopreservingculturallegacies. HisexhibitionsincludesoloshowslikeSeaSpiritinTelAviv(1998)andRedLandinShanghai(2005),aswellasgroupexhibitionsin Beijing(2009).Hisworkexploresmemory,identity,andtheimpermanenceoftime,urgingviewerstoreflectontheimportanceof preservingculturalstories.

DianeMazurisathird-generationJewishAmericanartist,knownforherlarge,figurative,abstractedpaintings,collages,and multimediaworks.AnExpressionistatheart,shedrawsherarthistoricalinfluencesfromSurrealismandCubism.Herworkserves asadialoguebetweenthefigure,fantasy,andabstraction.TheJewishidealofcontinualgrowthandtransformationisreflected inallofherartwork,andsheexperiencesaflowofenergywhilecreating,feelingdeeplyconnectedtotheprocess. ThepiecesDianeisexhibitinginthe2025JewishAmericanHeritageMonthgroupshowarepartofherVortexSeries,created between2023and2025.Thevortex,anarchetypethatshefirstencounteredthroughaspiralcompositioninhercollagework, becameasymbolshewantedtoexplorefurther.Toher,thevortexrepresentsthespiritualjourneyoflifeandthepathto enlightenmentthroughenergyandtime.Itsignifiescontinualgrowth,theexpansionofknowledge,thecycleoflife,evolution, andthebalanceofenergies.
Dianeenjoysexperimentingwithspace,andherpiecesinthisseriesexaggeratetheimplied3-Dspaceofthe2-Dpictureplane. Drawingontheconceptofsimultaneity,amysticalideafoundinJewishwritings,eachpiececanbeviewedfromanydirection, makingthemsimultaneouslyfourobjects.Dianehopesviewerswillappreciatethedepthandcomplexityoftheseworks.

Oneoftheguidingprinciplesinbothlifeandworkhasbeenthevalueofexploringdifferentperspectives.AsaJewishindividual, hehasalwaysappreciatedJudaism’semphasisonquestioning,interpretation,andapplyingtraditiontocontemporarylife. Professionallytrainedasanengineer,hedevelopedahabitofevaluatingmultiplesolutions,challengingassumptions,and applyinglogicalframeworkstoproblem-solving.
Thismindsetcarriesintohisphotography.Heisdrawntocapturingtheworldthroughuniqueframesofreference—whetherby adjustingdepthoffocus,zoominginorout,orshiftingvantagepointsfromlowanglestoelevatedviews.Hisartisticprocessis fueledbyadesiretofindandshareviewpointsthatarebothoriginalandthought-provoking.
