appy Black History Month! Thank you for reading B Lifestyle Magazine, formerly known as LifeStyle Blogazine. This Lifestyle Magazine aims to highlight individuals changing their communities for the better. We will focus on Food, Style, Business, Inspirational stories, Parenthood and so much more. When I decided to rebrand this magazine, the main focus was the actual layout and look but my vision and purpose was to remain the same. This publication will not only focus on what’s happening in RVA, but it will also focus on what’s happening across the nation. When we entered 2020, it was the year of vision, but no one saw what was really ahead of us. There was an invisible enemy slowly making its way to wreak havoc on each and every one of our lives. We were confined to our houses in fear, away from our extended family and friends and forced to mask up in order to buy groceries. Opportunities of growth were lost with canceled public events, businesses folding left and right, and thousands of lives lost by simply breathing. It seemed as though our vision boards had gone to waste. 2021 to me signifies The Relaunch of our 2020 Dreams! 2021 gives us vaccines of hope, a pathway to what we once knew as normal. 2020 felt like we were on this runaway train that was heading off the rails at any moment. Now we have a light at the end of the tunnel. Personally, I can’t wait to be able to meet in person to network and eat comfortably inside restaurants. All the things that once brought us joy are slowly returning. My hope is that 2021 takes you to the very top to reach your goals. I’m sending positive vibes of better health and better wealth. We will all be winners this year, I’m sure of it. Embrace all challenges and learn to pivot in the moments of setbacks. This Relaunch issue features individuals looking to make an impact of their own this year. I appreciate everyone who gave their time to participate in interviews to share their journeys with our readers. Special thank you to Sharon Gilbert for acting as editor for a few of our articles. Enjoy the issue and again Happy Black History Month! Barry Farmer Publisher Follow Barry on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @iambarryfarmer

For example, Some guardians rear children from Kinship care, foster care, and/ or adoption. Some also, marry at an older age, have children later in life, or have adult children move back in with them which all a ects the family life cycle stages and makes every home as unique as it members.

RELATING TO
Families cannot strengthen their family through spending time away from them. The key to strengthen family bonds is to set aside time to spend together and enjoy those time you spend together without con ict.
There are a few “little things” that you can do in your home this week that will improve family relationships such as:
FAMILY &
Listen to music while you prepare meals and clean the house, Share why you like certain musical songs, Find something to look forward to every week that is enjoyable to you and who you enjoy to spend your time with and Avoid the feeling to be competitive for attention from family members by remembering you have your own special qualities and abilities.
CHILDREN
Highly valued guardians are mindful of the needs of the child in their care and usually makes every e ort to uphold those needs while the child is in their care by creating a safe environment knowing you are in charge of the safety and welfare of a human life. The responsibility of caring for a child is grand because they are undergoing signi cant physical developmental changes. The guardian’s in uence and direction can a ect the development of the acumen of the child to be ready to build a sustainable livelihood as an adult.

I
f I had to share my truest self it would be that of a parable storyteller. The stories that peak my interest the most seem of those which are parables. A parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. This also is the method that most of our elders use speak to us and this method requires general agreement of “what a thing is really called” to avoid miscommunication.
The birth of a child changes the lives of the parents and their families, forever. The decision to become a parent is a permanent one.
Miscommunications may develop when you do not understand a person’s communication style. This is common issue with new additions to the family such as adoptions, births, and new partnerships. There is a great personal growth opportunity that could “smooth out the bumps” in getting to know new family members that can be achieved with minimal additional e ort. These include: Listening with an “open mind” by not cross-examining or ridiculing the person you are speaking, Ask politely for clari cation when you are unsure of what the other person expects of you, Speak calmly when discussing disagreements and maintain respect and kindness in your speech.
According to Dr. Estes in her book, Women who Run With Wolves, “ Ancient dissectionist spoke of the auditory nerve being divided into three or more pathway deep in the brain. They surmised that the ear was meant, therefore, to hear the mundane conversations of the world. A second pathway apprehended learning and art. And the third pathway existed so the soul itself might hear guidance and gain knowledge while here on earth.”
Many families have similar structures within the community and are shaped by their cultural background as well as individual personalities. Every family has di erent family life cycle stages and its own unique ways of doing things on a daily basis that t their lifestyle.
