One of my most enjoyable pastimcs during the off season is to get out the VHA Yearbooks and study the racing careers of different flyers. Most of the "cracks" build up to a golden era, where their performances render them almost unbeatable. Flyers ofthe ilk ofJ. Mifsud, three FED Aggregale wins during the forties and fifties, B. Nancarrow; three Fed Aggregate wins in the fifties, sixties, and seventies, and the likes of W. Fritz, P. Ainsworth, T. Groves, and Stevens Bros. taking us through the seventies and eighties, and J. Brislin taking us into the nineties with his record fburth VHA Old Bird Aggregate win, through to our present day champions, such as G. Evans, K. Saggers, J. Van Beers, C. Perry, etc. Through this more than fifty year period, Tom Meehan has more than

held his own against these, and all the other great flyers the VHA has produced. A record that is bcst recognised by the fact that at least once in every decade since the 1940's, Tom has been either first or second in the Vl lA Old l3ird Aggregate, a particularly remarkable achievement to say the least.

In 1994, I was fortunate to obtain two

hens from Tom's cunent day family, and their pre-potency has been a big factor in my loft achieving some satisfing results over the past five years, including 1" Fed Cobar, l1 % hours on the wing and l'1 Fed Coonamble over 13 hours on the wing. I unrescrvcdly recommend these pigeons, but more importanlly " Dips me lid' to this great pigeon man.

The birds in this loft are mainly Wickham's that came from my friend the late Keith Wickham, and the Deweerdts liom my old friend Keith Veall. I have had a lot ofsuccess over the years, and the few birds I sold in the 1994 sale bred two Federation winners, two second Federations, and other Federation positions. So, I am sure that thcse birds will do well for those that get them. There are not a lot ofbirds as I did not breed in 1999. Over the years I have won 13 VIIA Old Bird Races, which I believe is equal to the best in the VHA, including twice first and once second 500 mile Fed's, and twice first and twice second in the VHA produce race classic.
