I first met Steve at the end of the 2002 Race Season and from that time on we have become great mates. Steve has a lot of good qualities including honesty and integrity. He has a lot of friends in the pigeon fraternity and mingles with other recognised flyers like Mick Portelli, George Desira and Grant Patterson. Excellent pigeons were never far from his reach, and his motto is “only the best will do�. Success for Steve started fairly early in his pigeons he could find his passion for requiring the best pigeons he could find and not compromising for anything less. I can vouch many of my best pigeons came from Steve and still todays his pigeons play a large role in their pedigrees. I have had a great success with his birds, and so too many other country and city flyers. Whoever purchases these birds will strengthen their lofts. I wish Steve all the best with the sale. I became good friends with Steve in 2008 when he invited me to toss my birds with him. The first time he invited me over to his place was when he was waiting for the double birds to arrive. In this particular race, he got 2 birds together and achieved 1st and 2nd. Knowing that he had the race pretty much covered, he done something that just shocked me. He placed both birds in a basket and told me to take them home and breed off them. (“You need some EUROS in your loft john” was his comment) I just looked at him in disbelief and declined his offer. I just couldn’t take them. As I got to know Steve, we exchanged a few birds and 2 particular birds that were provided to me turned out to be exceptional breeders. One cock, a Jansen Ponderosa bred pigeon, produced 8 federation positions for me including my Produce Fed winner when crossed into my family of pigeons. In 2011, this cock and 2 of his sons were responsible for breeding 5 out of 7 possible fed positions which enabled me to win the spirit series averages in the VRPU and to also lead the overall averages half away during the season before the racing was cancelled due to the PVM outbreak. The second cock that he loaned me was a Smeulders Jansen based bird bred by Steve. I raised 2 single nesters off this cock mated 2 different hens. One hen was placed 3rd and 5th few and also landed another 2 times with few birds. The other single nester was a late bred cock that landed with my Whaley Fed winner when I dropped 3 birds to win this prestigious race. In this particular race, all VRPU and GMPF birds were liberated together and I had the best velocity against all 3 feds. The birds that I have received from Steve have enabled me to be more competitive in races of up to 300 miles and have also added more federation positions to my loft especially in the shorted races. One fascinating observation I found with these birds is that they perform better when sent every week in the earl part of the season. For any new flyers or existing flyers that are serious about improving their performances, I strongly recommend Steve’s family of birds. He has always purchased the best possible birds available and it has become clearly evident that many other flyers that have been generously gifted birds by Steve have gone on and bred winners, topped the averages and have established their own families of top class racing pigeons.
