PHOENIX LOFTS OF AUSTRALIA - BARRY & SHIELA DEVINE END OF AN ERA - COMPLETE SELL OUT

Stock Birds, Race Birds, the Winners & Prize Winners Baskets & S.T.B. Quartz Clock. At 67 years of age I have decided to call it a day, still in good health. I would like to do some travelling around Australia and overseas and devote more time to my family. Having such a large team of pigeons it has become a 7 day per week involvement which prevents me from doing anything else. My wife Shiela has developed a serious illness also which can be cured but will take time and a lot of assistance from myself and the family. This has been a very hard decision to make but like anyone else I have to put my wife and family first and foremost. 1. There will be 30 Houbens in the Melbourne sale. The sire of the triple winner Lot 1 and the triple winner Lot 2. 10 Houbens have been raced to 500kms, the others are breed 2005, one pair of cross Houben Janssen from John Wetering plus 5 lots 2005 bred Desmet-Matthijs cross Houben are in Melbourne, also 6 Houbens in Brisbane sale. The two original pair of Houbens were selected for me by Steven Kearsey. From the first round of youngsters off the first shipment of Houbens to come in to Australia that Neil Mackar has and Allen Marcons Houbens which have created a dynasty of Federation winners in Melbourne. The two original pair of Houbens will be sold off in the Sydney sale at a date to be set.

One of the original cocks from Allen Browne has since died rung 91. This family of imports has bred Chris Ostojic of Brisbane 1st QPF 400 miles. Barry Dodds, winner of VPU Old Bird aggregate three years in succession consistently won with Desmits x Janssens and John Dismore in Melbourne has consistently won with birds bred down from Desmets purchased at Alan Brown's sale. All have produced excellent race and Stock Birds. The Desmets will be split between Melbourne and Brisbane sale. The originals 2 & 3 year olds and 2005 Breed youngsters. They have all been kept together, only a few crossed with the Houbans. To describe the Desmets - they have beauty, brains and stamina, probably the nicest looking pigeons I have seen and very reliable. 3. The General-De Klak Janssen are of the original 88 imports and were purchased from Bill Wallford of Adelaide. 18 months ago Bill acquired one Red Janssen from K. Saggers and put through the De-Klaks he had. These Janssens have been responsible for winners all over Australia and are responsible for two car race winners here in Sydney. I also had 2 Mealy Janssen cocks from G. Bond that were off the Syndicate Cock from Steve Lucas. This cock bred a multitude of winners for George and I put one of the young cocks to the De-Klaks. Both are in Melbourne and their young ones are in Brisbane full pedigrees on each Lot.

2. The Desmet Matthijs are from Allen Browns clearance sale Melbourne in 1999. All four birds were hand selected by Allen for me. One Desmet from John Dismore and one Desmet obtained from Robert North. Raced by Dave Able of Ipswich, won 1st Batemans Bay 935 km, 1st Tuncurry 505 km by 20 minutes.

4. The Keith Wrightsons pair were bred especially for me by Keith a few years ago. Keith has been flying pigeons for over 60 years and would have to be one of the best long distance flyers in Sydney, especially at 700 mile. The pair Keith bred me are off his 700 mile winner and his national winners. I believe this is the first time Keith's birds have been put up for auction, the original pair will be sold in Melbourne plus 5 of the young and six will be sold in Brisbane, full pedigrees on each Lot. 5. Staff Van Riet, I acquired one pair at considerable expense last October. Parents are direct from Staff Van Riet, a sister and a brother to my pair have bred 3 Federation winners in Sydney last year, 2005 for three other flyers. These Staffs are extremely good. All the young ones bred off this pair, 9 Lots will be in the Brisbane sale. If you don't have Staffs in your race teams in Sydney and Brisbane I don't believe you will be competitive now days. (in my opinion). These Staffs I am putting in Brisbane are like peas in a pod and cannot be faulted, perfect in every way. Parents will be in Sydney sale at a date to be set, full pedigrees on each Lot. 6. There will be 10 Wickhams in the Brisbane sale, stock birds some the same way bred as Les Hansson producer cock came from my loft. This cock has bred a multitude of winners for Les in his Toowoomba Club, from short to long races. 7. The Goodgers I have came about when Roger Mortevedt visited Australia and stayed with John Pryor and Bill Wallford in Adelaide. Roger took a liking to the Goodgers and three pair were acquired and placed with me to breed off and test them and then send them off to America. Each time we had them ready Newcastle Disease broke out in NSW and prevented them going. I am unable to hold them any longer so they will all be put up for auction. There will be 12 or so in Melbourne sale and Brisbane.

There are over sixty Goodgers and will be auctioned in Ballarat on Sunday, 9th July, 2006. Contact Greg Burges - 03 5335 8304. John Share Red Hen Mealy Cock 2nd Feb and 13th Fed 500 miles. Bill Wallford one pair and one pair from Grant Patterson. By way of John Share in the pedigree all have the famous Lots 53 & 60. The Cook winner and of course the Elliot Hen. They all look good and handle well. Some have what I call a Black Pearl Eye. These came from the Bill Wallford Hen I believe. I don't believe you can get better Goodgers than these.

THEY ARE AS GOOD AS THEY GET! Detailed pedigrees on all lots.

Note: The only medication used on these pigeons is a little iodine occasionally. NO ANTIBIOTICS OR HEAVY CHEMICALS USED Their reproduction system has not been affected or damaged.

THIS INFORMATION REFERS LOTS 37 TO LOT 50 the “Janssen” pigeons are renowned the world over for thei racing and stud prowess. When Ponderosa Stud, John Hofman imported pigeaons from Greenfoeld Stud in 1989 Janssen based birds were successful in their first racing season. The omports were sons and daughters of James Bond, Famous 05, Bertie and Annie sire and dam of James Bond (Bertie and Annie Campius) DeKlak - The Generaal Line - a great Dutch champion racing cock and Boniek - the real side of Janseens. The winners from this first importation would be astronomical and Tony Hayne, Ponderosa England, did a wonderful job selecting the right birds to send to us. The Generaal Line was particularly strong types and were successful in New Zealand, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland. The Boniek Line were top performers and I was lucky enough to have one to put to my imported Janssen Cock (Raketman) line John Hoffman used a RCC with his Stud Hens and the young were successful in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. The BB 03480SA96 DeKlak-Generaal Line was from a DeKlak BBH off (imp) pair. Sire by the Generaal himself and the dam by Kadet. She was mated to her own son MC533 to produce 2 Mealy Hens. Strong, powerful, showy hen; one flew 300km on,y and the other to 600km. MHen 20781SA03 has produced three Lt BCHens typical of the line, they were going to be real goers.

The 03480BBH DeKlak-Generaal when mated to BBC37337SA96 a Janssen x DwKlak x Mueleman x Kadet bred 2BBH and 1 Slate Hen, all to the Generaal type. Strong, powerful racy types, these three youngsters had very strong eyes. The Generaal line breed down and down. The 03480BBH produced winners and many placings in Broken Hill and was first in 1997 Adelaide $10,000 Race. John Hoffman bred her as a substitute for birds lost in traing before the event. I have been kucky enough to see many lofts of imports in Australia and overseas, Belgium, Holland, Egland and Scotland, but feel the Ponderosa “Janssen” based birds lose nothing in comparison and they have produced for all who are lucky enough to have them. I believe the Janssen family selected by Mr. Tony Hayne for Ponderosa Stud have proven themselves to be true champions and if handled in correct manner will keep winning for many years to come. Eijkeramp “Janssen” from the Janssen Brothers started in 1964 and the line is still winning today for Greefields Stud. In 1998 1st National Orleans from 18,878 birds + 40 National Places in forst 100. Also 16 wins at Federal and Combined level. Spice Girl won two Federation Events 6,476 birds and 3378 burds respectively. She is a LtBC Hen, strong powerful type with rich pearl eye and JAnssen based Van Loon DeKlak type.

There are a couple of things of importance that I would like to point out to intending buyers. These birds have not been medicated with antibiotics at any time. In my opinion Pigeons that have been medicated heavily or lightly would definitely have had their reproductive systems partly destroyed as well as their immune systems. As I stated in my story in the journal March issue that I let the pigeons build their own immune systems up. One other important issue also is when I am racing these pigeons - I can race them every week if necessary and mostly do even if the velocities are down to 900 mpm. They don't need two or three weeks rest to come back into condition. After a Saturday race my pigeons are jumping in the loft by Monday. The only medication used is iodine occasionally and apple cider vinegar. You usually can tell if pigeons are medicated by their poor feather quality. You will find my pigeons have a very silky feather and will slip through your hand.
