Introduction My name is Peter Mastic and I am 54 years old. I am involved in pigeon game since I was a young boy in Germany. Before I moved to Australia in 2002 I raced pigeon in Germany for 27 years. When I came to Australia I didn’t know that we race pigeon here. After 2 years here in Australia I built a pigeon loft and tried to find some good birds. Sadly in 2004 I got very sick, I had bladder cancer. The next 3 years I was not able to work much because of chemo therapy and was always in hospital. I tried as best I could do to race pigeons, sometimes with a top result. I realized quickly that the pigeons I had were not good enough. In 2004 I meet Tom Wills and we became good mates. Through Tom Wills I managed to get some real top race pigeons. I done a lot of work for Tom and got paid with top shelf pigeons. Later Tom bought some of them back for good money after they started winning for me. In 2008 I moved from Riverwood to Westmead and became Tom Will’s neighbour. It was not always easy to train my pigeon because Tom was training all day. The first year I raced only the short sprint season. I won the sprint average. I decided to specialise on Sunday money races and I done well. Last year Tom sold all his birds I flew first time the CCF full season. I won the middle distance average in my section, and won a number of other races. The highlight of the year was my champion bird “Forest Gump”1st Fed, 500 miles on the day after flying two 400 mile races in 7 days; he became CCF bird of the year. He also won Australian ace bird award for best performing bird in 2013 in Australia. One of the real top pigeon was 2201 a daughter of Albert, of Albert Marcellus the sprint king. I sold this hen back to Tom for $4500. Before that, Tom and I would always share some youngsters of her. Another top family of pigeons was the new imports from Germany which are the Louis Wouters via Willi Van Beers and some line bred Hardy Krueger pigeons also from Germany In 2005 when I got these pigeons, I knew how good they were because I knew the flyers personally and how there birds had performed in Germany and Europe. In the first year I raced them and bred off them. I crossed these 3 bloodlines on performance and was lucky that they matched perfect together; they have bred birds that can win from 50 to 500 miles. These pigeons possess the homing ability the strength, power and the toughness to survive the tough Australian race conditions. The results on the CCF web site will support this statement. If you study my catalogue you will see that I practice line breeding. I used 6 main breeding cocks which I use on bull system. Every cock is always re mated; some cocks were mated in one year to 5 different hens. I believe that’s the shortcut for breeding pigeon of high quality. I also ensure that all birds mated are matched. I look at the performance of each bird and the performance of the sires/dams and g/sire/g/dams. I am always mindful to mate the birds to ensure the required traits of size, handling and wing type are maintained. There is no truer statement then “the apple does not fall far from the tree”. “Like father like son”. My flying career is finish now after 47 years in 2 countries; I won what I wanted to win and achieved my dream. Pigeon racing is a great sport and I have enjoyed every bit of it. We got the opportunity to move to the country, and we loving it. At this stage I need to focus on our new life in Taree. I will not be racing in the near future and that’s why I’m selling out. I have kept 6 young pairs to breed some pigeon for one loft races all over the world. I think my family off pigeon can hold against the best and I intend to see how they go up against the big boys. I believe that the pigeons that I have offered for sale are proven breeders and the progeny of them.
