Auction of Racing Pigeons owned by
Merv Hatch – 17 August 2008 At SAHPA Hall, Baulderstone Road, Gepps Cross Viewing from 09:30, sale starts at 10:30 Complete sale of stock birds, two and three year olds and yearlings bred for the 2008 racing season and including hampers, Junior clock and his loft. He has raced pigeons in the ‘Hills” since 1980 – some 27 years and reckons that pigeons in the ‘Hills’ have to be better than the ‘city’ birds to be competitive. In all Merv has won 14 SAHPA races and gained many SAHPA placings - a very good race record. His record of 4 Young Bird Derby wins is unsurpassed in South Australia. In the recent past he has built his breeding around the Palmer Busshaerts from Geo Thomas in W.A. plus additions from Maj R Wilson (with whom he had a strong friendship which extended to gift pigeons between them). In addition Merv has had success with the Wettering Delbars from Maj R Wilson and the Dordin cock bred by Ray McDonald of Pt Augusta and gifted to Merv by Maj R Wilson. He found that the Dordin x Wettering Delbar and Dordin X his ‘old family’ raced very well and this included a SAHPA winner and SAHPA placings. The Palmer Busshaerts have been very successful for Merv contributing wins and places at SAHPA and club level. Merv is 89 years of age this July 2008 and is having to sell the birds because of ill health. He is unable to look after the birds in the manner they deserve. Merv offers the birds for sale with his best wishes, and hopes the new owners reap the satisfaction and rewards Merv has enjoyed in past years.
