Not many opportunities present themselves for us to improve in our chosen sport so don’t miss this one My good friend George has some of the best birds in the country and great deals of them are coming up for auction. This is a regrettable decision that had to be made, as racing from George’s present address will soon be no longer possible. The only entry path to the loft for the birds will soon be filled with a two-story house being built right in front of the loft, and with a new neighbour who will do all he can to have the birds removed. The only option available to George is to move house and to recommence at a new address. I have a good friend in George, a man I have known for about fifteen years. The one thing I can say about by George and our sport is that he never stops trying to improve in every aspect of the sport, from feeding, health, breeding and training along with the type of bird he keeps. Many birds have been tried, some make the grade and many fail. Only the Very Best will do, absolutely nothing less! If you refer to his article in the “Pigeon Fancier Magazine” late last year, you will see how keen George is in selecting his birds. He owes a lot of his success, if not to the best Gabbies to come to this country, some of which George imported himself, birds like his “Golden Pair” then close to the best. These birds raced both straight and crossed to his other families have produced birds to top the Federation many times, winning many club and Fed events including four successive Birds of the Year winners in the last few years. (See results below). Although the Gabbies have had many successes over most distances, when crossed with the Staff Van Reets they are basically become unbeatable especially at the shorter events and we all know how essential it is to get off to a good start every year.
