Welcome to this week’s Proud News. In this edition we celebrate our Healthcare Science Award nominees, share a heartfelt patient story, and highlight our wonderful Brilliant Award winners.

I’m also delighted to share that our 2024 NHS Staff Survey results are in – and they show real progress. Over 2500 of you completed it this year – a great response!

I’m also pleased to say that all of our scores across all NHS People Promise themes were above average, and national survey results show we scored the best in the country for teamwork, compassionate leadership and supporting work/life balance. These were among other positive results.

Your feedback is invaluable in shaping our workplace and improving patient care, which was exemplified by 69 per cent of you stating you would recommend the organisation as a place to work and receive care.

As plans for our new catering offer take shape, colleagues took part in a tasting session with new partner Medirest earlier this week, to sample and give feedback on a new menu to be introduced from April. The new offer is set to bring an improved range of food and drink to patients, visitors and colleagues at Barnsley Hospital.

Menus will improve choice and increase the number healthy options available, including “Grab’n’Go”, salad bars and an extended hot food menu. For patient catering, there will be an expanded menu, offering a flexible and consistently high-quality offer to our patients.

Colleagues from Rotherham and Barnsley worked together to get the best deal for both Trusts.

PUBLICLY BRILLIANT

Stam’scompassionrecognised

Dermatology consultant Dr. Stamatios Oikonomou was nominated by a patient’s relative for his care and compassion.

“My daughter has suffered with severe eczema since birth, no one has ever really spent the time to help her. She was passed from pillar to post and has had years of upset, anxiety, pain and bullying due to her skin condition.

“Stam put my daughter at ease and told her no matter what it takes we will get her skin under control. For the first time in 17 years there is not a single flaw on my daughter's skin.

“I can never thank him enough for the confidence he has given my daughter.”
