In this fabulous festive edition, you can read about Barnsley Hospital Charity's Shine Bright for Barnsley event, which brought our community together to celebrate the start of the festive season.
This issue not only marks the switching on of the dazzling Christmas lights, but also honours our Proud of Barnsley award nominees and winners, whose dedication inspires us all.
As we look ahead to 2025, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Breast Care Appeal, a vital initiative to enhance care and support for patients. Join us as we celebrate the season, recognise outstanding achievements, and share exciting plans for the year to come.

On 27 November, we launched the festive season at Barnsley Hospital with a vibrant festive market and delicious food stalls, culminating in the Christmas stars switch-on. Staff and volunteers enjoyed complimentary mouth-watering treats and were entertained by a fantastic military band.
The lights were officially switched on by Santa Claus, creating a memorable moment for all.
The event was a joyous celebration, fostering holiday spirit among staff and visitors.
All proceeds raised during the festivities will directly benefit our patients and staff, making this season of giving even more meaningful.
Making Barnsley hospital merry and bright...
Looking for a new challenge, or to get fit in 2025? Then look no further. Thanks to your amazing support, teams of runners will be taking part in the Barnsley 10k and the Great North Run in support of Barnsley Hospital Charity. Get involved with your friends or make new friends as part of our team.
Congratulations and a big thank you to Aoife Behan from the Acute Response Unit who smashed her first Great North Run in September. Aoife only started running in March this year, had a brilliant race, and raised a fantastic amount to support our charity. There is no stopping her and she has already signed up for 2025! To join Aoife and get involved, email; barnsleyhospitalcharity@nhs.net.
We’re thrilled to reveal that our 2025 Appeal will back a total revamp of our Breast Care Unit – a lifeline for thousands of patients every year.
The unit sees around 7,381 people annually, handling everything from breast lumps to cancer treatment, with 250 breast cancer patients supported each year.
The environment overhaul promises privacy, dignity, and calm. Think nature-inspired designs, stunning ceiling tiles, and tranquil spaces.
Your support will help create a place where patients feel truly cared for during life’s toughest moments.

Earlier this year, young hero
Freddie shaved his head in solidarity with mum Kelsie, who lost her hair during breast cancer treatment. Their inspiring fundraising has now funded hair loss packs for patients, providing much-needed comfort and support.
Kelsie worked with Chemotherapy Unit Lead Nurse Lindsey to design the packs, with Ward Clerk
Olivia assembling them – a true team effort all around!
Huge thanks to everyone involved for making a real difference to patients’ lives.
Well done, Freddie and Kelsie – you’ve helped turn care into compassion.
