2025 is shaping up to become another year of significant progress in our implementation of digital solutions across the Trust.

We start with the Yorkshire & Humber Care record which is now available. There’s an update on improvements to VDI and PC’s with the rollout of Windows 11.

Looking forward we have Clinical Narrative due around September which brings improvements to clinical noting. Speech Recognition and Electronic Consent are both underway, with more details below.

Connecting Care The Yorkshire & Humber Care Record (YHCR) is available through Clinical Workspace and

Accessing YHCR

Careflow EPR.

You can access the YHCR from Clinical Workspace and Careflow EPR.

The YHCR is a digital shared care record

There is no need for additional logons,

solution that enables citizen information from

the YHCR portal will open in patient context when selected. From here you can view the entire record from all sources

multiple sources to be accessed securely.

Information is updated in real time and is available to appropriate health and care professionals at the point of care. It provides information from primary and secondary care as well as local authorities and social care. .

What’s in the YHCR? Information is provided from Trusts across the region and the system has been available in the Humber region for some time. Each Trust chooses what information is shared with appointments, encounters, medication, allergies and documents being common examples.

Access to GP Connect is also provided as part of the YHCR. This provides direct access to information in GP’s systems, with near realtime updates.

The system is intuitive to use when connected., with no need for extra passwords.

Note: Access to the YHCR is for direct patient care and is provided to Medics and Pharmacy staff at this point. We’re working on wider access in the next system release.

Virtual Desktops Get a Boost New servers have been installed to improve the performance and reliability of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) used across the Trust.

There’s been a big move to VDI in 2024 as teams realise the benefits that VDI brings, especially those who work across different areas throughout the day.

Faster logon times.

Access to all the applications you need.

Move between devices, but keep the same session running.

Flexibility of devices. Desktop, CoW and Laptop options are available.

These latest updates enable us to run more virtual desktops to meet peak demand, deliver more performance for a smoother experience, and have enough capacity when we need to take servers down for maintenance.

Essential Maintenance Not as exciting, but just as important, is the work being done to keep our systems as reliable and secure as possible.

Cybersecurity is something everyone should be thinking about and the Infrastructure team constantly update our systems with the latest security and performance patches.

Improved Image Handling

Embedded Assessments

Images can be embedded into notes by default with no need to attach separately.

Based on the responses given, additional assessments can be embedded into notes. Open a smoking cessation note and come back directly to the original note once complete.

Annotation is improved with full control over size and colour for text and shapes.

Layers make it easier to hid infomation if required.

Build Once - Use Many A single Narrative assessment can be displayed in multiple locations. The same note shows in Workspace, EPR or Vitals. Notes are available where you need them.

Device Independence Narrative assessments are available across all devices such as VDI, PC’s, tablets and web browsers.

Introducing the Digital Support Team The ICT Help Desk and Clinical Systems teams are joining forces under the leadership of our new Head of Digital Support - Jim Shaw.

The move will help deliver a seamless one-stop experience for staff who have issues with our digital system and devices.

Sharing knowledge and support tools the team will be able to deal with more issues on a first time basis, speeding up support queries.

PC Upgrades Did you know we have a higher percentage of Windows 11 PC’s than any other Trust in our region? We are continually updating, upgrading and replacing the 5,000+ devices across the Trust.

Modern PC’s are much faster with more memory and solid state drives which last longer and use less energy.

You’ll see these rolling out alongside upgrades to get everyone on Windows 11. If your PC isn’t compatible with Windows 11 it will be replaced

by October 2025.

Powering Up our Information Power BI from Microsoft is being further integrated into our Business Intelligence processes across the Trust as cases for its use have become more prominent.

The Outpatients Operational Report demonstrates the interactive capabilities of Power BI, including date, specialty and CBU filters. Similarly, the development of a Ward Quality Report (originally based on IRIS) displays insights into the quality of care on each ward, through relevant key performance indicators, such as pressure ulcers incidents, falls incidents, MUST performance and nursing staffing.

Healthcare Inequalities Reports have been developed within Power BI enabling analytical and geographic insights into referrals, missed outpatient appointments and patient initiated follow up care.

In another case, statistical process control charts for pressure ulcers and falls per 1000 bed days that were previously designed and published from Microsoft Excel, are now available within Power BI, allowing for more convenient access and a higher degree of interactivity.

Setting the Standard An internal guide has been created by the BI team, designating best practices for the development of Power BI reports and providing direction on different methods to create visualisations within dashboards.

Speech Recognition After a clinically driven procurement the Trust has engaged with our existing supplier Voice Technologies to implement the leading clinical speech recognition tool, Dragon Medical One. Dragon Medical One is part of Microsoft who are investing in speech to improve accuracy, and drive their next level of AI for ambient speech. This enables conversations to be summarised and presented in different clinical documents.

The objective is to minimise disruption by integrating DMO into our current workflow with CareFlow EPR. Direct entry is possible, but we’re assessing taking digital dictations and covert them to text ready for entry into the relevant forms.

We’ll be able to share more information as we agree implementation timelies with Voice Technologies.

Digital Consent Adding to our existing Inform Digital Library, we are working with EIDO Healthcare to implement their Digital Consent Suite.

EIDO’s solution has the option of recording consent in the clinic with a Consultant, at home whilst reviewing accompanying documents, or on the day of a procedure if necessary.

The Consent Suite is about informed consent and links in with the existing library of patient information to help them understand the procedure they’re about to undergo.

Details on the implementation will follow once we’ve agreed with EIDO.

PowerApps Update Improvements have been made to the way staff connect to ProApps.

Instead of separate PINs you can now use your Windows Username and Password.

We’re using industry standard security tools to achieve this, which feeds into our desire to get all systems accessible with the same logon details.

There are also practical benefits such as assigning permissions based on roles, ensuring new starters automatically get access to the apps they need.

e-Forms on the move We’ve started to move e-Form from our on site SharePoint to SharePoint Online which is hosted by NHSMail. This keeps us up to date with the latest technology and will enable us to build new type of e-Forms.

As it’s part of NHSMail you’ll be able to take advantage of file sharing and email services that are part of the Microsoft 365 service.

Patient Portal We have implemented our Patient Portal to securely share data and interact with patients digitally. Patients can access their appointments and letters at any time, and services can track activity and engagement.

Patients who have a registered mobile phone have the option to receive their appointments and links to letters via SMS.

Watch the waste!

Did you know that in January we printed 401,750 pages across the Trust. That’s only 10% less than last year, despite the move to digital noting across the Trust.

71,782 pages were printed from Careflow Connect, which is a digital handover tool and should be accessed and updated as information changes.
