Welcome to Golden Oaks Golden Opportunities Frozen Genetic Sale Vol. II.

On offer are some exciting Angus and Hereford embryos, semen and the right to flush none other than Golden Oak Magnolia 2D! It’s a very exciting time to be in the cattle industry and we truly believe the genetics we have on offer provide an overall mix of proven genetics that will enhance any program.

This is the first year for Golden Oak Preacher 333L calves and we are extremely happy with the calves hitting the ground; lots of hair, vigour, moderate birth weights and you can quickly see the top and hip they have in them. Golden Oak Hollywood 210K gave us our first calf crop in 2024 and his calves did not disappoint. His progeny sold very well in our December sale and we will continue to use him on both heifers and cows moving forward.

On the Hereford side, Ice Box and Amsterdam lead the way and continue to impress us with birth weight, colour and vigour. The Ice Box females are now in production and they have beautiful udders and are great moms.

We feel it’s extremely important to build a herd around a cow family and feel you can buy with confidence in that.

If you have any questions about any of the offering, please don’t hesitate to contact either of us.

3. How to Bid

Now that you are logged in and your account phone number / email is verified you are able to bid on an upcoming sale. Simply find the lot you are interested in bidding on. After you have found the lot there are 2 options for bidding on the lot.

- Place Next Bid – to place the next bid on the item, you see the amount in the first box, you simply click the “Place Bid” button and after you review the bid and agree to the terms and conditions your bid will be placed.

- Max Bid Amount – to place a max bid you put your max bid in the second box listed as “Max Bid” on the item, and then click the “Place Bid” button and after you review the bid and agree to the terms and conditions your bid will be placed as the next bid. With the Max Bid placed the computer will then keep you as the high bidder to the max amount you have placed. This can be a great feature if you are not able to give 100% attention to the sale close out and protect your interest, so you do not miss out on any lots you want to purchase. The Max Bid amount is completely confidential from the seller during the sale process. Example of How the Max Bid Works - If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. Please note that in some cases a lot value can change very quickly if 2 max bids are placed on the same lot competing against each other.

4. Watch List Feature

If you have items in multiple auctions or only a few from the same auction that you want to watch with out having to scroll through the entire list, you can add the lots to your watchlist. On each lot you will see the “eye” button beside the bid button, by clicking this “watchlist” Icon that item is added to your personal watchlist for easy viewing of just your favorite lots in this sale or on the entire site.

5. Sale Ending / Closeout

Most Farm Gate Timed Auction sales close racehorse style with extended bidding.

What is Racehorse Style Close?

Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

How will Extended Bidding works?

When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

6. Bidding Close & Follow-up

After the clock has gone to “ENDED” and no bidding has occurred for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished. Following the close typically within 24 hours of the sale close the sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/Pick up of your lot. Or as the winning bidding you can contact the sale consignor / sale manager to confirm payment instructions.

Please make sure that your account info is up-to-date and correct if you are the winning bidder of a lot as this is how the billing is sent to Sale manager and/or Sale consignor.

GO Magnolia 2D is a Harvestor out of 143K, Natural Law’s mom. GO 2D is the type of power cow that we are striving to breed at Golden Oak. She is moderate, very tanky, good-uddered, and has a big foot under her. 2D is one of those cows that goes the extra mile raising her calves. Her production is only really getting started. She is the dam of our high selling GO Preacher 333L bull who we sold half interest to Westway Farms for $70,000.00 and GO Krakow 330L bull who we sold to LT Ranches for $30,000.00 both in 2023 sale. This year’s sale features another top bull calf of 2D’s, GO Area Code 403M sold to LLB & MJT for $41,000. Her feature heifer calf choice lot of Preacher’s full sisters, 435M sold to Murray Ranching for $47,500. 2D is a herd matriarch in the making here at Golden Oak. Thanks to Blairs & Allison’s for purchasing flushes in 2023 & 2024 Cattle in the Snow sales.

Erica 267F was our Lot 1 in Cattle in the Snow Vol III and sold for $67,500 for 1/2 interest to Yeguada El Tres from Mexico. She’s a direct daughter of one of the most famous cows in the Angus breed, Erica 74A. Her first bull calf is a herdsire at one of the top cowherds in Canada, Everblack Angus and LT Ranch purchased her heifer calf out of 2023 sale for $30,000. 267F is as deep bodied as they come with a great disposition that she passes on to all of her calves. This cow has the ability to change the direction of a cowherd.

79F Toots is the mother of our $55,000 Lead off bred that sold to Merit Cattle co in 2024 and $28,000 Lead off bred that sold to Loval & Straw. Both breds have turned into beautiful cows. 79F has also sold a feature bull calf to Rafter 17 for $15,000 in our sale. We have half dozen calves on the ground by this exact mating and are extremely excited.

Bar- E-L Warrior is a bull we are extremely excited about and his future role building our cowherd. He adds muscle shape, hair and a very good foot. Both his dam and grandam are the type of cows you build a cowherd around. His calves were very well accepted in our 2024 sale. Feature bull calf sold for $20,000 to Chapman Cattle Co and another son for $10,000 to Bar EL. A heifer calf sold for $15,000 to Sage Grass. If you need to add some punch in your calves and want one backed by a superior cow family, Warrior checks the boxes. This is the first Warrior semen to be offered.

Golden Oak Hollywood is a past high seller for $45,000 to Pine Coulee & Koupal Angus and we couldn’t be happier with his first calf crop. They are lower birth weight and have a great look. The 90E cow behind this bull adds that little extra shape and growth. Hollywood will be used in our program even heavier this year. This year we sold semen in Cattle in the Snow that averaged $330 a dose.

Icebox was the second high selling bull Glenlees and Golden Oak Livestock bought out of the Sandhills bull sale. He is a moderate framed bull with a powerful hip and hind leg. He adds length of body and pigment into his offspring consistently. His first sons offered in sales were very well received and his daughters are gaining momentum. We are highly anticipating calving them out this spring for the first time. Take note…. he has a very balanced EPD profile with high carcass data!

Churchill Amsterdam was our pick from the 2023 Churchill Bull sale. We wanted a bull that would add some colour and maternal traits. When you analyze his offspring you can see the maternal look and beautiful teat placement on his daughters. You know right away by the goggles and dark marking on his calves. As a bonus Amsterdam has quickly become our go to heifer bull.

Golden Oak Gangster 245K was our leadoff Hereford bull in our 2023 Cattle in the Snow sale who sold to JK Fraser for $40,000. His first calves have style and shape. They come low birth weight and have pigment. Being out of Haroldson’s Royal, you know they will have beautiful udders. A great option to use a proven bull with a stacked pedigree. Donation Lot

26G is our cornerstone donor cow out of Nellie 71D, Hereford Miss World 2017, and going back to our foundation cow Nellie 528N. She has sold over $85,000 in progeny in the last 2 Cattle in the Snow sales. It has been very exciting watching her progeny excel at their new homes. She is big ribbed, solid red and has good pigment. We are very excited to donate the entire proceeds of this lot to Canadian Hereford Juniors & Bonanza 2025 held right here in Olds.

Icebox crossed with 26G is a very exciting mating that we had planned since Icebox arrived. With Icebox’s muscle pattern and length, we think it will be a great match with 26G, power and depth. These are the types of matings that can fast track a program.

Sherman is one of the new and exciting carcass bulls with some power. His dark colour and pigment should create a very attractive and marketable offspring.

111E was our pick out of the Phantom Creek dispersal and went right into our donor program. She was our feature cow in this year’s Cattle in the Snow sale and sold to McLennan Creek & DJD Herefords of BC. We have a large embryo bank and a daughter who will take her place. This cow works with almost every mating we have done. The first mating by GHC C5 Attention 155E has already produced a $12,000 heifer calf that sold to Sky Virtue. The High Country calves are in high demand so this mating could produce her next herdsire.

PCL 49Y Dahlila 111E

1C has had a big impact on our program and produced over $100,000 in progeny in the past couple Cattle in the Snow sales. The $45,000 two-year-old, GO 4H is being flushed at McLennan Creek & DjD with some exciting Sherman calves hitting the ground. Her grandson Gangster 245K was the $40,000 bull for JK Fraser and the first calves are very exciting and he has semen selling in this years sale on him. 1C daughters continue to rise to the top in our herd. Each mating offers a unique genetic package.

GO 4H | Daughter of 1C

40X is a cow we purchased out of the Iron Lakes dispersal who is the mother of the Bentley bull and is starting to show up in a lot of pedigrees. She is a deep soggy powerful cow with an excellent foot. She also produced our high selling Hereford female in this year’s sale to Scott Young for $19,000. We have a limited embryos left to sell. Historic daughters are making great cows.

MCH 16L | Full Sister to Embryos Selling 1 Pack of 3 Embryos

A real productive cow with a beautiful udder that just gets it done year after year. Her two year old daughter pictured was a sale feature and is example of her production. An exciting mating that will elevate any program.
