Welcome to BFF 2024! It is with great pleasure we welcome you to Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival (BFF) 2024. We are proud to present 83 films from 42 different countries this year. The festival will be officially opened by Charlotte Beckmann Finnestad, the Deputy Mayor of Kristiansand. The opening ceremony will be attended by some of the cast and crew from the opening film Winners.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION All screenings will take place at Kristiansand Cinema and Aladdin Cinema. For screenings at Kristiansand Cinema, guests must collect their tickets (free of charge) for each screening there. Screenings at Aladdin Cinema do not require tickets, just turn up with your accreditation card. FILMS WITH ENGLISH DIALOGUE OR SUBTITLES Most of our films will be screened with English dialogue or subtitles. A selection of titles from our program are also available with subtitles in our online Screening Room for professionals. FESTIVAL OFFICE The Festival Office will be located in the lobby at Kristiansand Cinema. The opening hours will be from Tuesday 12-15, and Wednesday - Friday from 08-15. FILMS ON THE HORIZON ‘Films on the Horizon’ will introduce 6 new Norwegian/Nordic feature film projects for children and youth. The presentations will take place at Aladdin Cinema. After the presentations we will travel together to Kristiansand Zoo for
a special evening. (see more at kicff.no) The presentations will be held in English and there is no entrance fee. For full information about the films, please see pages 38-39. MASTERCLASS We are proud to host writer and director of Victoria Must Go, Gunnbjörg Gunnarsdottir, and her Masterclass at Aladdin Cinema. The masterclass will be held in Norwegian and there are limited number of seats. Please see pages 44-45. CONFERENCE At this year’s Conference we try to unlock secrets and finding keys to better reach children and youth, and thereby create the next big success. Our keynote speaker is Jason Bevan. Please see pages 40-41. AWARDS Ten awards will be handed out at BFF this year. The award ceremony will take place at Mannskapsmessa, Odderøya on Friday April 26th at 19:00. Information about the awards and full jury presentations, please see pages 46-50.

Pitch competition - best idea for a tv-series or a feature film. At this year’s festival, for the seventh year running, Zefyr Media Fund and Kristiansand International Children Film Festival jointly host a pitch session. Three jury members have chosen 8 projects that will be pitched during BFF. The award of 100,000 NOK is presented to the best pitch of a project to be realised within the Zefyr region.

Signe Zeilich-Jensen
Henrik Rafaelsen
Signe is a Swedish/Dutch script advisor and film curator with a long track record in film and media, with a focus on youth and family audiences. She started her career at the Dutch film and television producer Bos Bros and later became a buyer and commissioning editor at the Dutch public broadcaster KRO and Nickelodeon Benelux. For the past five years (2017-2021) she served the Netherlands Film Fund as a film commissioner with focus on children’s and family films. In 2021 she was a script editor trainee at the Torino, and she currently works as a Tutor at TFL and as an independent script advisor.
After studying at Teaterhögskolan in Stockholm in the late 1990s, Henrik Rafaelsen remained in the Swedish capital and worked as an actor at Stadsteatern until 2004. From there he moved to Oslo and Det norske teateret (2004-2006) and then Nationaltheatret (2006-2020). In 2020 he returned to his hometown of Kristiansand and has been employed at Kilden Performing Arts Centre since.
Script advisor
Signe has an extensive experience in curating and managing festival programmes and industry events, such as Cinekid and Holland Film Meeting. She is an international advisor at Meetings on the Bridge and is since the beginning of 2023 she is the Acting Head of Programme at the Netherlands Film Festival.

Actor, Kilden Performing Arts Centre
He has starred in more than thirty Norwegian and Swedish films and tv series, and has won several prestigious awards for his work, amongst them Norwegian Theatre Critics Award 2004/2005, Amanda Award Best Actor 2011, Best Actor Karlovy Vary IFF 2012 and The Canon Award 2017. He has also been nominated for an Amanda Award in 2017 and a Guldbagge Award in 2018.
Ingunn Myklevoll Sjøen
Production advisor / information officer, Zefyr Media Fund Ingunn Myklevoll Sjøen is a production and information consultant at the Zefyr Media Fund. Ingunn has a long career in public administration aimed at the AV industry and also has many years of experience as a journalist and cultural director/ cinema director. She graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2005 with a master’s degree in media production. She also has a bachelor’s degree in communication, culture and media studies from the same educational institution.

MASTERCLASS The Icelandic/Norwegian director is based in Bergen. A self-taught filmmaker, she started as a photographer and produced her own material for several years. She began her career in 2012 making music videos and short films. In 2018, Gunnbjörg wrote and directed her first feature-length film, the zerobudget production For evig og aldri, a feel-good film about abortion and the expectations of motherhood. In 2019, she co-directed her first full-length documentary, The Art of Fallism, a political film about structural racism and gender in South Africa. Gunnbjörg’s interest in mixing genres, especially comedy and drama - with elements of action - has led her to write and direct Victoria must die. THE BFF CHILDREN’S FILM AWARD AND THE BFF SHORT FILM AWARD The jury awards the BFF FILM AWARD of NOK 50,000 to the Best International Kids Film. The prize money is awarded to the Norwegian distributor who imports the film to Norwegian cinemas. The jury also awards the BFF SHORT FILM AWARD to the Best Norwegian Short Film. Malene Oppheim
Kristian Landmark is a screenwriter, graduated from The Norwegian Film School. His master film was the award-winning When I Fall (2017). As a documentary filmmaker, he has several productions behind him, including the cinema documentary Tønes, was the closing film at the Norwegian Film Festival in 2019. As a screenwriter, he has collaborated with Qvisten Animation. He wrote the animated film A Mystery on the Cattle Hill Express (2023), and together with director Rasmus A. Sivertsen, is developing the short film 7 Sins of Estragon (Rottefangeren). In 2023, Landmark made his debut as a feature film director with K-town. He has also published several books for children and young adults.
Malene Oppheim (1984) is a film producer based in Kristiansand. She is the owner of Oppheim Film and works in both fiction and documentary. During the past five years, she has produced a number of short films and documentaries, several of which have won awards and been shown both in Norway and internationally. Her award-winning documentary Mammaen i meg (2023) has been shown at film festivals such as BIFF and CPH:DOX. When she is not working on film, Malene is a mother of four, loves walking in the woods and likes to indulge with a good cortado.

Head of Childrens Film Department at Folkets Bio Rose-Marie Strand has worked with children’s films for over 20 years and is both a film distributor and responsible for purchasing children’s films at Folkets Bio in Stockholm. In 2015 she won the Gullspira award. The prize is awarded to people who have made outstanding contributions to Swedish children’s films. The award is presented during the Guldbagge gala.

Atle Hunnes Isaksen is graduated in film studies and has been active in the film society movement since 1998. For the past 14 years, he has worked at The Norwegian Federation of Film Societies, where his responsibilities include the children’s film society and international relations. He has jury experience from both ECFA and IFFS juries. Atle believes that film societies are the best meeting place for watching films together and works to ensure that film clubs for children and young adults are an important player in conveying the diversity of the film medium to their target audience.
Josep Arbiol was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1962. He is president of the Cultural Association Jordi el Mussol. Arbiol is the director and founder of the Valencia International Educational Film Festival MICE. He is also president of the MICE network with headquarters in Madrid, Havana, Western Sahara, Argentina, Mexico, and the Galapagos. Having started his career as an educator, he currently concentrates on films for children and young adults, and media education. His work as a mentor of audiovisual products made in educational environments has been awarded in many competitions worldwide.
Marta Jodko studied Art History at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. She has been working as a film programmer at the Ale Kino!, Biennial Art for Children, and the children’s section of the Animated Film Festival Animator since 2010. Since 2022, she has been the main coordinator of Ale Kino! and a board member of the ECFA.
