WELCOME TO KICFF 2016!

It’s a great pleasure for us to welcome you to the 19th edition of Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival. We are proud to present a great variety of films from all corners of the world. From the latest Scandinavian children’s films to the best of Japanese animation.

PROFESSIONAL DAYS We have the pleasure of inviting you to many different seminars, starting with the documentary seminar “Appreciation, tolerance and involvement”, which will be arranged in cooperation with Sørnorsk Film Center at Thursday, April 28th from 10 am – 12.30 pm. Later that day the seminar “Films on the Horizon” will introduce five new featurefilm projects for children and young audiences: PARADISE 89 (LV), GILBERT’S REVENGE (NO), CLOUDBOY (BE/SE/ NO), ANTI (DK) and IN THE FOREST OF HUCKYBUCKY (NO). This seminar starts at 6 pm.

Finally we conclude the seminars on Friday, April 29th with “Children as an audience – From script to screen,” from 10:30 am till 1:30 pm.

AWARDS Four awards are handed out at the final evening of the festival. The Children’s Film Award grants NOK 75.000 to Norwegian distribution of the best new children’s film. The ECFA award will be presented to the best European feature length film. The YOUTH JURY will present an award to the best film in the youth section. Finally, the Dyreparken Award is given by our audience to the most popular film.

FILMS WITH ENGLISH DIALOGUE OR SUBTITLES A number of our films are screened with English dialogue or subtitles. A selection of the titles from our program is available in the professional ScreeningClub.

olores and Gunellen are very different from one another, but best friends anyway. Dolores likes the safe and known, while Gunellen dreams of travelling the world. One day Gunellen decides to travel the world, but Dolores doesn’t want to be left alone. So she tells Gunellen all she knows of life, love, hair, death and poop in an attempt to make Gunellen stay.

Having your birthday on February 29th is terribly stupid. It’s even worse when you get a duck egg for a birthday present. The egg hatches and Cathy’s best friend, Margaux, is the first person the duckling sees. After this, he follows her around and thinks she is his mother. Margaux’s parents won’t let her keep the duckling, so Cathy and Margaux set out on an adventurous journey to rescue it.

The animated rescue team from Latvia has to deal with a plague of mice at the naval museum. But even their cat fails miserably and the mice simply blow up their super vacuum cleaner. So they need to be inventive in order to outwit the clever rodents.

At the end of each year of their studies, they both have to pass a tough exam in order to prove that they have developed the necessary skills to continue studying at the academy.

Afterwards he started working for the Swedish arthouse distributor Folkets Bio. Since 2011 he has worked at Filmcentrum Riks. As head of acquisitions he is in charge of the import of children and youth films, media literacy and film education. Since 2014, he has been director of the Anti Racist Filmdays in Stockholm. european children’s films association e c fa is an association for professionals and organisations that operate within the fields of quality films for children and youth. It aims at securing children’s access to the best possible film culture and to increase an awareness of the need for good media politics in the different countries in Europe. ecfa will coordinate any initiative taken in favour of cinema for children and youth, as far as production, distribution, exhibition, cultural action, media education and training of professionals are concerned. Through initiatives such as networking, seminars and exchange of European audiovisual programmes we will strengthen the link between the different fields of operations within children’s films.

To strengthen the high quality film culture for children and young people from the beginning of the films’ production until they reach the eye of the young audience, e c fa can offer you: • • • • •
